Choi suk bin a.ka dongyi (king yeongjong's eomuni) according to history is one of the purest one according to king sukjong. Her consort name was given by king sukjong which means "pure". She stayed out of politics and didnt want anything to do with it. The west and south factions that time were the ones who did all the politicking. On the other hand, dongyi's son, king yeongjo was a child prodigy and became quite sensitive because of his roots(servant class). Too bad he became too much of a perfectionist even to his own son. His son would always get anxious whenever his king father is around to the point that he shakes from fear of his father. Prince sado i believed became a sociopathic killer and rapist because of his perfectionist father and all the politics that were happening during those times. King yeongjo's reign though was one of the most successful in joseon era.
i came here after i watch Jang Hansol telling a true story about King Sado that killed many people due to his stressed under the pressure of his father. Good actor and actresses. Recommended for you guys who want to watch history and tragedy short movie.

I was looking for korean historical dramas and i saw this crimson moon... I was about to watch it but i read the caption and the plot... and i saw the name of Crown prince Sado... and i stopped there... I dont want to watch any movies about Prince Sado a(Sado, The throne, Secret door, The diary of Princess {his wife}, Crimson moon, etc.) BCOZ i know, from the very beginning, his life is too sad and tragic, and painful... And this intruiged my mind..
so good drama based on real historical background and adding a little bit a fiction or different point of view. Anyway it reminds me the sad sad sad real story about Prince SADO and his father( King ).
This drama is a way far from the real historical background. It is closer to a real fiction with added a bit historical story. But I agree with you that is such cruel and sad story between Youngjo and Sado Seaja....😥

Only one scene on the drama is based on a fact but in overall the drama is so much of the fiction. Putting of the narrator on the drama seemed as if it was fully according to the historical true story... unfortunately it is not at all. it is okay watching of it as a traditional fiction drama but if it considers as a historical drama then the drama seems quite controversial one and against to Korean history.
I couldn't understand why this drama blaming jang huibin for the illness of crown prince sado where in fact it was all fault of the king.. I don't know but I feel it was unfair blaming the dead person..
You are missing a whole big point. No one is blaming here. This shows how circumstances lead a person into insanity which is what exactly happened with Prince Sado. At that time there may have been rumors and believes among palace people that Jang Hui Bin's palace was cursed. (just like how some people believe in ghosts today) When a mere child is forced to live in such palace where two people had died and has bad rumors, also away from his mother it made him schizophrenic. What they try to portrait through the drama is the visual hallucinations, auditary hallucinations that the crown prince get. This is exactly what he may have gone through which led him to his tragic death
This other story of Prince Sado is make more sense that the movie version. King Yeojong should have just strip the crown prince from his title, and send him to become a monk to be rehab. Living peacefull live for the rest of his existance. At least at those time its the only possible way to treat someone that have schizophrenia, and claustrophobia...
this was a interesting take on crown prince sado. i didnt get the impression he was like this in any other historical info (which doesn't say much). i thought he was smart, and articulate. this is so sad, and horrible.
Why the heck they didn't call some people who can remove the evil spirit ? They kept talking he was possessed in this storyline and yet didn't contact someone to ward the evil.

That was a good drama to watch and the ending of the fire and the 2 women to be together in Hell. Having the crown prince Sado cursed and being a killer and mad in his own mind. Huibin to get for revenge after she was forced to drink poison and the death of her son. She came back to haunt and carry the curse through.
Why would Queen mother go to hell? She was a great woman. (In real history Queen mother didn't order her own son to be killed)She will go straight to the heaven.Our actions will come back to us. Good will get good. Bad will get bad. That is how karma works.

The karma of her involvement in the death of Huibin and her son the Crown Prince in order for her son King Yeongio to seat in the throne. The politics during those days was so dirty and evil that prince Yeongio witnessed it. King Yeongio held on to his throne even when he was old and Yi San was the alibi to get rid of Crown Prince Sado by putting him in a rice chest wooden box to starve until he died. This greed for Yeongio to stay in power to wait for his grandson Yi San to be of age to sit in the throne was all seen whenever he embarrassed Sado in front of his subjects. Dong Yi was portrayed kind in the film Dong Yi...but the result was evil that history talks about it and learned from it. Remember history is written by those in power of their reign and time. Thank you KBS for this....I also watch The Throne and felt the pain of the late Crown Prince Sado. Kudos to Korean History....and historical dramas! More of this kind please.

Interesting what you say about you say about Dong Yi. She is probably my favourite character from korean dramas. But i guess I shouldn't be surprised, that she was nothing like that in real life. At least, that's what i get from your post. After all western movies and tv series have portrayed people like Jesse James and Billy the kid as being much nicer than they really were.

The story is so tragic but during that time...that is the best option to protect the kingdom. Prince will leave but in the eyes of the enemy will be fatal. On the side of science.....depression that lead to psychotic. In the matter of faith...during the reighn of the king...he completely ban the propagation of christianity . On my personal view...prince sado was under the power of evil spirit. If you watch the movie...conjuring 1 and 2...even the Nun....you will learn how evil attract and attach to the victim.
I was reading the memoirs of Lady Hyegyeong(Sado's wife). The author apparently hinted that there was some incest-ish like relationship between Crown prince Sado and his sister(Princess Hwahwan). Whether it was consensual or not, we dontknow. And korean media dont really talked about this stuff bec they're kind of ?strict? in portraying the royal family's image.. Anyways, it kind of make sense if this is what happened, considering : a)the King already knows his sons insanity for a long time, but he ultimately found out about the sado-hwawan controversy, he got angry, ultimately killed his son at the end, b) it was Sado and Hwawan's mother who pitched the idea to the king to kill their son to stop the rumor from spreading. c)Apparently Hwawan hated his brother and his son at end,, and you have to wonder what changed? d)the way lady Hyegyeong described Hwawan in her own words. e.) Allegedly Yi san was angry too at Hwahan as to why it was only his father who got punished. PS. There are lots of interpretation as to what really happened during this time, so dont take my comment seriously.

People are glib about the power and destruction a curse can carry. A mother's curse is said to be the most powerful of all, Trouble is, a curse will also harm the innocent as well as the intended person who offended which is the intent behind the curse. so what really is the truth of the matter ? Historical records are usually whitewashed, truth is what the powerful dictate.
This plot is making a turn away from actuality. Crown Prince sado was Dong yi's grand son not his son as portrayed here. And that small kid is supposed to be her great grand son. Kbs made me so confused.😑😑😑😑

Also Hee bin was also not that evil...Do you know that when Dong Yi was a child, she was literally raised in Queen Inhyeon's Palace? Try to understand. They were not friends .They were just business partners. And at lease Hee Bin loved Sukjong even though she became evil due to Sukjong breaking her heart with multiple women

Sado wanted only to be loved by his father as a son. But his desire leads to him being mentally ill.

They were not friends .They were just business partners. And at lease Hee Bin loved Sukjong even though she became evil due to Sukjong breaking her heart with multiple women
