@BeeBop for sure. That’s a given. It did take me a bit to realize he was deaf, but as soon as his fellow horseback knight signed to him to double back it became clear why the sound was cutting out. It’s only after he defiles her and leaves her for dead that he is given the gift of hearing. Which in turn ends up being his demise. There’s so many dynamics at play in the story.
I loved it too, this was the first story I have seen in a while that has mutual villains who ruin each other in such a way you can’t help but comb through their demise and pick it apart, I think it speaks a lot to the culture of beauty and love and proves that those two (beauty and love) are not always the heroes but the bystanders in tragedy/ toxic relationships.
I’ve read a lot of explanations about their kiss and how she makes him bleed deliberately. But there is a closeup of her lips right after which shows they are made of sequins or gems and thus have sharp edges. In my opinion, she CAN’T kiss him without hurting him due to her lips being made of dangerous treasure like the rest of her body, but she is so consumed by passion for him that she NEEDS his kiss anyway. There is no avoiding kissing him without causing him bloodshed.
I was just wondering if he would fu*k the siren, then I realized she is made of precious metals and that would be extremely painful and unpleasant for Jibaro. Sorry for being so shallow.😂
I knew it was a Albert Mielgo production as soon as I saw the intro. This guy blew all the other vids away...and he did it withOUT saying ONE word.! Amazing!
Jibaro is a masterpiece. Straight and simple. I mean, beyond the superb technicalities featured in this episode, this beautiful story can be read at mltiple levels. Simple impossible love story? Check. Allegory of the spanish colonization of Latin America? Check, reminiscent of Aguirre. The myth of sirens? Check. Metaphor for humankind's abuse of nature? Check. And so forth. I couldn't help but watch in awe, totally silent, mouth wide agape, this powerful, absolutely splendid animation. This is art, ladies and gents, in its purest form. It's difficult to do better than that. Bravo to the crew who produced this chef d'oeuvre.
One of the things I like about this episode is that the siren does not die. She is damaged, grieving and defiled, but she will learn lessons from her experiences and rebuild her golden armor from those she has slain. I pity the next deaf man who comes to her lake.
whoever designed the siren should be given an award or ten! it's stunning. would love to see an actual dancer in those jewels redo that amazing dancing sequence, it's mezmerizing, xo

Iam a 3d artist and beleive me the depth of detailing is something I've never seen in any series by far........... The textures,, CGI, storyboarding and concept is something unbelievable.. Kudos to LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS whole team....

Yup, no MoCap at all , I couldn't believe it either, read somewhere that the director isn't a big fan of MoCap so they just used the videos of the choreography as reference. Just mind blowing how it all look,sounds, and feels to watch, just in awe

The name Jibaro is a term used to describe puertorrican natives. When the island was found by the conquistadors they found that the rivers were full of gold and so to obtain this, they used the Tainos of the island. They abused and murdered the natives in their efforts to obtain the stolen resources. And so this “siren” of this episode represents the gold and the Tainos that were murdered by the Spanish. I think this episode spoke well for itself, no description needed.
When I first saw the episode, I did not understand the use of the term "jíbaro" as the main title. Nothing of the episode looked "Puerto Rican". But your explanation is interesting and logical.

I read that it took 4 women to make performance her. A actress, doble, 2 dancers, I believe. Jibaro is also an actuall professional dancer that looks like his character.

They apparently recorded all the dancing from a bunch of different angles and used that for the animation guide, but it wasn’t mocapped from what everyone who worked on it has said. Truly unbelievable though

There are already so many excellent episodes throughout seasons 1 and 2 (my Top 5 being Sonnie's Edge / Beyond the Aquila Rift / Zima Blue / Snow in the Desert / Ice), but this season managed to up the game again. Bad Traveling and Swarm were my favorites in season 3... until I saw Jíbaro - DAAAMMMN - this episode is playing in a league of its own - the animation, the design, the story, everything about it is absolutely beautiful, mesmerizing, haunting!!!

I wonder of this episode is supposed to represent rape. A woman falling for a man who ends up using and exploiting her and leaving her bloody and shattered. Only when he drank her blood did he regain his hearing and was forced to hear her screams which lead him to his death. Another theory I have read is that this is about colonization. The knights are spanish crusaders in south america. The priests at the beginning blessed them to steal and exploit the native's land...which in this case represents the "siren" covered in gold and riches. This overall story seems to represent greed... whether that's greed of the crusaders for land and gold or greed or the greed of a man for woman's body.
only problem with this theory is that it was the woman who approached him. She wanted to screw him. He didn't care either way. He just wanted the gold. You can't call it rape when the woman initiates and carries it out to completion. He never forced her. He may have gone through the act of screw her, but it is only to get her gold. Physically it is not rape. It is robbery maybe, but it is not rape. In modern day twisted logic, when the woman does not get the love she wants, she can turn around and cry rape. Welcome to the me2 era.
I’ve read elsewhere that it’s commentary of the toxicity of many relationships in which the people involved fall for each other for the wrong reasons and mutually end up harming themselves because of it.
I think both exploit each other, in the first place the woman baits the men for treasure and kills them and keeps their gold and jewels, look how the bottom of the lake is full of it... the woman is not as innocent as you paint it, she's probably not human but something else, that said they both fall for one another though and they flirt but both end up acting against one another with their ulterior motives.
It's amazing how insanely real that world looks. I don't know how to describe it, but usually CGI bodies always feels "hollow", like there's no weight to them in, especially their movements. They got it down perfect.
The fact is that Love Death and Robots - something so much extraordinary.. almost every episode. So original with a plot, art form.. Like this one.. really epic. Last episode I watched was "Mini walking dead night" which left me speechless. Although I structurally see flaws in the plot and see how it can be better but the form.. I applaud to artists.
They Guy did one of the best and stunning episode in season one The Witness,Won an emmy, help in the development of spider man into the spider verse(won an oscar) , an Oscar to best shortfilm, and now the best Shortfilm I saw in years
The series was insane as always and whoever made this last episode is one of the most talented directors, and special effects crew and costume design so amazing!
I know everyone else seems to love this episode. It just really creeped me out for some reason. I understand it is really well made and was unique. But it just made me feel uneasy throughout the entire episode
As many others have pointed out, one of the lessons in this story is that unbridled greed destroys all sense of reason or caution, and can lead to not only your death but the deaths of many around you as well.
Not many times I left speechless but this is on a different level here, a masterpiece!! I couldn't have dreamed this up as talk about a renaissance reborn. This series just keeps getting better as it goes. :b

its a story about colonialism from the west ( the soldiers look like spanish conquistadors known for colonizing south america and SE Asia ) on communities/villages who were wanted for their riches like spices/metals/textiles etc ( the gold + jewels the siren wears ), and how in the end both communities suffered especially the post-colonial communities who may live on but w scars ( siren had no jewels and was traumatized in the end) . notice how she only calls on them when her property; the gold, is taken out of the water. she otherwise wouldn't have interacted with them.

My jaw stayed dropped as I watched this episode...so sad that I watched it as the first episode of v3 tho. Now I don't think any of the episodes will surpass it.

I don't know what word to use to express for this episode. One of the best of all. It pauses my life watching this. My breathing skipped through it. Insane and hypnotizing.
Every scene of this is perfect. The imagery and story is just incredible. The story made me feel uncomfortable, and a bit horrified. But great art instills true emotions in the viewer.

This was one of the best episodes I've seen on Love, death and Robots. I also like first seasons Zema Blue. But the animation in Jibaro along with the storytelling was amazing. The graphics and coloring was just as amazing. Which I could download it and watch it where ever.
Each and every episode of this series can be converted in a wonderful and incredible movie plot. I love this show and I hope someone make movies by inspiring from these episodes

I couldn’t have seen anything better than this in my whole life.
I wonder of this episode is supposed to represent rape. A woman falling for a man who ends up using and exploiting her and leaving her bloody and shattered.
Only when he drank her blood did he regain his hearing and was forced to hear her screams which lead him to his death.
Another theory I have read is that this is about colonization. The knights are spanish crusaders in south america. The priests at the beginning blessed them to steal and exploit the native's land...which in this case represents the "siren" covered in gold and riches.
This overall story seems to represent greed... whether that's greed of the crusaders for land and gold or greed or the greed of a man for woman's body.
only problem with this theory is that it was the woman who approached him. She wanted to screw him. He didn't care either way. He just wanted the gold. You can't call it rape when the woman initiates and carries it out to completion. He never forced her. He may have gone through the act of screw her, but it is only to get her gold. Physically it is not rape. It is robbery maybe, but it is not rape. In modern day twisted logic, when the woman does not get the love she wants, she can turn around and cry rape. Welcome to the me2 era.
I’ve read elsewhere that it’s commentary of the toxicity of many relationships in which the people involved fall for each other for the wrong reasons and mutually end up harming themselves because of it.
I think both exploit each other, in the first place the woman baits the men for treasure and kills them and keeps their gold and jewels, look how the bottom of the lake is full of it... the woman is not as innocent as you paint it, she's probably not human but something else, that said they both fall for one another though and they flirt but both end up acting against one another with their ulterior motives.

Wow! This totally amazing! No actors or motion capture- all done in ZBrush and Maya. This sets a new high for animation.
It's amazing how insanely real that world looks.
I don't know how to describe it, but usually CGI bodies always feels "hollow", like there's no weight to them in, especially their movements. They got it down perfect.

The fact is that Love Death and Robots - something so much extraordinary.. almost every episode. So original with a plot, art form.. Like this one.. really epic. Last episode I watched was "Mini walking dead night" which left me speechless. Although I structurally see flaws in the plot and see how it can be better but the form.. I applaud to artists.
They deserve to win an Emmy for this particular episode, the music, the visuals pure art.

I mean that's pretty much downright shown. The moment he touched the gold she immediately began acting.
This brought me to tears. It was so moving and beautiful. Her final dance killed me.
This is a nightmare fuel episode. A creature killing every man with it's voice.

They Guy did one of the best and stunning episode in season one The Witness,Won an emmy, help in the development of spider man into the spider verse(won an oscar) , an Oscar to best shortfilm, and now the best Shortfilm I saw in years
I want him to get an entire anthology series all to himself. A full season's worth of animated fairy tales. He'd knock it out of the park.
The series was insane as always and whoever made this last episode is one of the most talented directors, and special effects crew and costume design so amazing!
I know everyone else seems to love this episode. It just really creeped me out for some reason. I understand it is really well made and was unique. But it just made me feel uneasy throughout the entire episode

Even though they're in pain, the knight in golden armour is still blinded by greed the way he's still smiling at her
As many others have pointed out, one of the lessons in this story is that unbridled greed destroys all sense of reason or caution, and can lead to not only your death but the deaths of many around you as well.
The animators should get paid higher. They are amazing with their work.
Why I love this series so much...it's so unique. The very different stories each episode-all of it is so intriguing.
Not many times I left speechless but this is on a different level here, a masterpiece!! I couldn't have dreamed this up as talk about a renaissance reborn. This series just keeps getting better as it goes. :b

its a story about colonialism from the west ( the soldiers look like spanish conquistadors known for colonizing south america and SE Asia ) on communities/villages who were wanted for their riches like spices/metals/textiles etc ( the gold + jewels the siren wears ), and how in the end both communities suffered especially the post-colonial communities who may live on but w scars ( siren had no jewels and was traumatized in the end) . notice how she only calls on them when her property; the gold, is taken out of the water. she otherwise wouldn't have interacted with them.

This was one of the best episodes I've seen on Love, death and Robots. I also like first seasons Zema Blue. But the animation in Jibaro along with the storytelling was amazing. The graphics and coloring was just as amazing. Which I could download it and watch it where ever.
Each and every episode of this series can be converted in a wonderful and incredible movie plot. I love this show and I hope someone make movies by inspiring from these episodes
