Hey Dimi, could you please show us how to properly tie together palm fronds for the winter protection? I've always wondered how you manage to tie together your phoenix canariensis' fronds especially.

I am indeed going to be filming it for you guys this fall. It's not that easy and time consuming because I have to do it alone. But I've come up with a new system that I'll show you. It's too much to explain...🤷‍♂️
      Just a little patience. 😇

Impressive growth! What is the sp kumaon then? So its not takil. Nainital or ukhrulensis?

    • @Dimi.Exotic.Garden
      @Dimi.Exotic.Garden  Год назад +2

Thanks. Yes indeed impressive growth, especially compared to my other regular T. fortuneis.
They named it after the area (Kumaon) where it was found. This one has characteristics of both T. takil, but also T. nainital.
It is not certain whether this is a hybrid after all...🤷‍♂
with T. takil (Kalamuni) or something else...

Interesting! Here in the United States, the few rare Trachycarpus Takil sold are sold as "T.Takil the "Kumaon palm".
But apparently this is just another stupid deceptively buy some deceptive United States Gardner hyping his fortune I Palms.
The first introduction of t a k i l to the United States was botched when some publication accidentally placed a Waggy photo instead of a takil.
A second major reintroduction into the United States was botched when the seats turned out to be Nainital/"Nanital".
The resulting confusion in the United States between t a k i l, Nainital, Andis Fortune eyes being sold as "Taylor " or "Columbus" form... and recently the so-called North Carolina Form has destroyed any confidence among Us Palm Growers who have decided to just stick to plain old Fortunei & Wagnerianus. Anything else like Takil & Princeps the snow dismissed as just random Fortuna variants or simply not worth the trouble thanks to America's Draconian USDA rules.
I read recently in Europe Spannel and other German Growers the RPS company sought out to prove trachycarpus takil is real & succeeded. The Palm is now cultivated in Europe. Unfortunately that's not the case in the United States and I don't think it ever will.
I wish I could be the one to get it started bottom 50 years old by the time I able to get properly do such a thing I'll probably be going on and some a****** will come by swipe them all up and sell them all in his Nursery back to Gary guy from California who destroyed a Takil colony in the United States when he convinced the owner to sell them all the Palms he took them out to California and sold them off will they will surely hybridize with fortunei and go extinct.
I grow Windmill palms in Newark New Jersey in my backyard and I have a couple of huge ones right now 6 ft tall in anticipate the first seed. Hopefully they don't all turn out to be male! I had a few true t a k i l s but the damn rodents ate them all, leaving the entire plant by eating all the damn roots. I guess t a k i l tastes a lot better than Fortunei. They never eat the Fortunei! But all my fortunei are actually "Bulgaria" , "True Nainital" now keep in mind I'm in America so names mean nothing anime turn out to be just a plain Fortunei. But regardless I am trying to spread the species in New Jersey and protected microclimate areas and I have success The Last 5 Years. I have plenty growing secluded with the areas but they grow very slowly. But I guess that works good in the sense of hardiness.
You have a beautiful Palm there.

      Hi sir,
Sorry for my late response, it was a bit difficult to translate your whole story correctly.😇
But thank you very much for your story & also compliments.🙏😊
The story about the Trachycarpus takil is indeed unfortunately a mess. Also here in Europe. The introduction here also went wrong several times. Even this T. kumaon was offered as the real takil at a certain moment.
The most recent information I know, is that the real T. takil would come from the Kalamuni region. They now call it T. kalamuni takil.
It is indeed very bad that there are many abusers who are only out to make a profit and spread wrong plants & information.😔 Very frustrating indeed and I can believe that in this way the faith has disappeared among the Americans.
This T. kumaon is not the real takil, but it is certainly not an ordinary T. fortunei either. There are many small differences.
I also have the Kalamuni, still in a pot. But it is very slow. It is very nice to hear that you are trying to grow and spread the right species. I hope with you that there are also female palms among them.
I also don't see or hear much about the T. princeps and T. manipur (ukhrulensis) there in America. Are they also difficult to obtain over there or is there no belief in that or something ?🤔
In any case, they are also two beautiful and well frost-resistant Trachycarpus species. Definitely recommended, much more beautiful than the regular fortunei & wagnerianus. Certainly the T. princeps is the most beautiful Trachycarpus and is extremely popular here. That is also why it is a bit difficult to find and also because they grow a bit slower.
I am lucky to have a female specimen in the garden. I now grow special and pure seeds with it every year. (manual pollination) A new video of that will also be online soon.
Many greetings from far & small Belgium.👍🌴😉
