VR + HUD off is my go to way of playing iRacing. It's a tad bit slower than a rigid setup with more information, but holy moly the immersion and amount of fun is unrivaled!
I've found learning in VR so useful. Not being able to see the telemetry immediately on the screen using an overlay (it is possible but I don't) really helps me actually feel what I'm doing. If I need to look at telemetry I'll look on VRS after a session but learning new tracks without overanalysing your inputs too much has helped me a lot.
Dave did have a slip angle 4 corner bass shaker setup, but removed it due to equipment conflicts. But if he used VR with the slip angle kit its so good for immersion.
Love the odd piece of VR content Dave! My PC would die a death though.... now if only i knew a company that would take all the hassle out of building a PC for me!
I'm enjoying VR perspective of this video a lot more than I thought I would. Maybe add the TV cam in a corner, and add the lap-times/standings back in for us to see. That'd be awesome.

I've been trying to prove that wrong with my small channel for a year now and it's been a slow go but I'm having a blast! Excited to see the review of this headset as it's been off my radar for some reason. I'm in the market for a new HMD soon so this shall be interesting. Anyway, cheers Dave and hope to see more content like this in an open wheel car. I'm the opposite, I don't do non downforce cars well, lol.
I’ve only just found your channel so I’m catching up on all your vids (hence you’re probably seeing a few comments from me), but I love your vr content. Not saying I don’t love the other stuff, but I find it fascinating watching the vr.
I love VR, especially with the open wheelers like the F3. It feels so knifes-edge and intense. I do like having the black box though because certain vehicles I will adjust the brake bias mid race. I will say though wrecks in VR feel like "emotional damage"!
VR racing with no hud is actually genius, I can't believe I never thought of it. While handy, the iracing hud elements in VR are a little distracting, how they float in space on top of the car interior. I'm not saying there's an obvious alternate way to implement them, but they bug my eyes, maybe its the partial opacity.
Actually in iRacing they hide the black boxes quite well. If you focus on the driving they are out of sight. At least in my case. They are very down on the bottom left and right and I have to look way down to see them. Dont remember if I placed them there or if it was there out of the game.
As someone who only plays VR on iracing it’s definitely my favorite way to play when it works. like 80% of the time and that’s after around 1400 starts
I would love it if the game would be displayed normally on the screen while playing in VR. Would give all content creators and streamers the ability to play in VR while giving the viewer an enjoyable experience.
Cracking drive dave, proper enjoyed that one! (also +1 for the VR, Personally love driving in it but I really need to upgrade from the Original Occulus I have, look forward to seeing your proper throughts on the DPVR E4!)

I wish I would drive in VR more than I do, I have the setup but an UW monitor seems to cover it easier and I don't have to point a fan at my face. Damn though, VR is legit the best way to play, hands down.
I always loved the idea of VR and racing, bought a Reverb G2 and couldn't stand it. I wear glasses and for the life of me couldn't get a usable image. So I sold the G2 and went with a 49" Ultra Wide.
@@jonasclementdk It'd be great if you could try it out before dropping the cash for a headset and lenses only to be in the same situation. Dissapointing though, VR was so much more immersive.
😃 From a viewer's point of view, IMO, this was among the best-looking VR races I've seen, especially how I could see wider, as in not from one eye or the other (usually left) w/ races in VR, but from the center, as opposed to a wider FOV setting from one eye. Vids I've seen where the RUclipsr digitally merged the two together, I would get a similar center point of view, but w/ the image there would be a vertical area of distortion on either side of center ~ 3/7 & 5/7 from the left (or right). Personally, I think one undisturbed image out of one of the eyes is better, preferably whichever eye would be closest to the center (right eye for left side driver and left eye for right side drivers). The FOV setting looked wider than normal to me making things in the distance look smaller than normal, harder to see components of the car or it's colour scheme, but then increasing in size quickly (way more than normal) esp as you got close enough that a collision was highly likely if the other driver unexpectedly hit the breaks. I don't know if this is from you using a diff FOV than normal or the physical/ software/ settings of this headset. The image seemed too bouncey. I've heard this is common w/ VR for the viewer, but not noticed as much by the player and can be smoothed out w/ software after the fact. I may have gotten used to the bouncing image bk as the race progressed it was less irritating than at the beginning of the race.
Super video Dave, my name probably gives it away 😂but I always race in VR... no HUD.. and yep more realistic but also more difficult 😮. But after a hour or more race you are sweating like a real raced river 😅

You need a better headset than anything by DPVR. Their displays are cheap triple stripe LCD and the genuine FOV is 95 degrees not 116 as they claim in the literature. (116 is diagonal, which is not a valid comparison.) They also only use one display for both eyes rather than two separate displays. This causes distortion issues. Basically, if the set was $200, it would be a good budget VR set. At a price equal to or higher than vastly more technically advanced HMDs, it is a no-buy. Do not take my word for it - see vr-compare website for the dirty details.

Wanna get into simracing vr on the pimax crystal light once reviews tell me it's worth buying. Gonna need one of them new Nvidia cards though so I hope I can race with just 1 arm and 1 leg.
As a glasses wearer that can't wear contacts, VR is a real PITA. It truly is the best experience. It's cheaper than triples, but I still prefer a single larger screen to VR because of the quality of life issues. Really is a shame. I'm faster in VR.
Surely with the rise of AI, spotters could be ultra useful and and interactive by now? Cracking jokes, backstories of the competitors in the event, comments on driving technique, etc, etc? And then. Do your voice comments on your behalf: "Dave just made a hilariously accurate observation about your driving style in relation to that contact you just had". "Dave throw some shade in your general direction". "Congrats BadDriver69420, Dave told me iRacing is going to name a new driving standards rule after you".
I like the idea of VR but I find that I have to move my whole head to turn the view. It's not natural for me. I am hoping that eye tracking software gets better so the screen tracks my eyes and not my whole head
What drives me nuts most about VR is that it's based on head movement, not eye movement (yes I know that's well beyond current tech) and it's just as disconcerting as TrackIR. Want to look left? Turn your head left which tends to pull your shoulders with your head...and with those tend to go the arms and wheel.
I take it you’ve not seen the somium vr1 reviews then, or even the Pimax crystal, or the XR-4, all 3 have a great sweet spot, with the VR1 being nearly the whole lens, so you can more your eyes more.

Maybe i try VR again haha.... But my "problem" was that Racelabs didnt work with my VR (Rift S) Maybe they solve that now
Maybe try mixed reality with a green screen? If you want immersion, this is it.
Do you use SteamVR or OpenXR?
Steam VR 👍
Is there any stabilisation on this or is it raw feed?
No stabilisation at all. 👍
@@davecamyt Clearly I need to stop giving my head a wobble
Do you wear glasses in VR Mr DC? Or VR lenses? 😊
A rare one this 😮👍🏾
No glasses with VR. My glasses are quite specific with regards to monitor distance so not really useful with VR
How comfortable was it with glasses on?
No glasses with VR for me 👍
As a glasses wearer that can't wear contacts, VR is a real PITA. It truly is the best experience. It's cheaper than triples, but I still prefer a single larger screen to VR because of the quality of life issues. Really is a shame. I'm faster in VR.
Defiantly Benny.
7:30 without HUD how can one tell BB has been dropped to 55?
I changed BB before I jumped into the car in the garage. I can then just turn my rotary forwards to move the BB forward 👍
I take it you’ve not seen the somium vr1 reviews then, or even the Pimax crystal, or the XR-4, all 3 have a great sweet spot, with the VR1 being nearly the whole lens, so you can more your eyes more.
you could make a side living out of these predictions 🤣 do you feel being more cautious and slower because of the VR POV?
Yes I think I am a little more cautious. I'm going to do some tests with this combo comparing vr with my single screen. Might make a video about it 😁
More VR
What are the chances you race Dries VL and McLaren announce him on the same day, he's 2023 world junior karting champion
These drivers are having a hard time staying on the circuit
I strictly race in vr 😭
