May Life bless us all, all living creatures, and rocks, and stars, it's all so lovely, so grand. And, of course, there is Vangelis. And there is Jon.
I dont think Vangelis even realises what a masterpiece this is. Certainly his best work was with Jon and vice-versa, but Jon's lyrics are challenging.
"Good, is good" is circular logic to the unconcerned listener, but to anyone capable of independent thought the meaning is pure and simple: good has the same value no matter who performs it, no matter what they believe, or who they are, or how unworthy they feel.
The tautology conveys a succinct and particular meaning buried like a riddle in the sandstone waiting to be discovered by those prepared to understand it. This language of acute simplicity is brilliantly lost on the pedantic because their focus is on what they perceive, not what the writer meant, or in other words, on eisegesis rather than exegesis. Thus, in this context, their criticism exposes only themselves as unworthy listeners.
Why all this is important has to do with the struggle that ultimately confronts the gifted mind - "Why am I here?" - and the meaning of life, or lack thereof. Unresolved, this question can lead to a lifelong crisis of existential depression, and deep unhappiness.
This is what "Horizon" seeks to redress, and does so, perfectly.

And I'd rather say, the gifted mind will always become silent and calm simply by letting place to the Self be. Focus is there, for those who dare experience it. It is not to be understood with intellect. It is to be felt. Then a smile arises. What is not Love...? Peace comes with Love and Love with Peace.
And thanks to your answer, here I am listening to this masterpiece and watching this great video once more... The awareness of the Miracle of Love again. What a wonderful mystery all this is...

I resonate very much with your sentiments. I found my peace in the way of Jesus Christ who is truly the prince of all peace. That does not take away from the beauty of this composition, and most of the credit for that is due to Vangelis. It was under Jon's influence that Vangelis was inspired to new creative heights in this work. Neither do I necessarily coincide with all Jon's views, most of which have roots in Sufism and Gnosticism.
That said, no other artist has been able to articulate the existential question with such clarity and understanding as Jon Anderson in this work.
Anyone who finds themselves having to confront existential depression will obtain lifelong encouragement from Horizon. I have listened to it many many times over, trying to understand every possible interpretation. It works on many levels, yet merely invites the listener to see beyond the limited horizon of personal happenstance by gazing into the true horizon of their own imagination. From there, comes purpose and meaning, because meaning is something we give to life, not the other way around. In this way we will always be the masters of our own destiny, regardless of the all the evil and chaos around us.
I hope this helps you to find your truth, and that the truth will set you free, as it did for me.
Bought this on cassette tape back in the early 80's and missed listening to it. Now it's 2018 and enjoyed listening to it once again. I love Jon and Vangelis. Wish they would do some more work together, but i doubt it. Horizon is absolutely breathtaking especially on headphones.

I very much appreciate the compliment Eddy, even 7 years after your comment! No doubt we all identify with Jon in our own way, the lyrics even resonating so well with Vangelis that he created a musical masterpiece just to frame it in. Horizon has to be their greatest work.

Wow, the synchronization between the music and the images is extraordinary. Thank you for creating this.
Thanks +ibnpatuta - I seem to have a talent for this, but even I'm impressed how well it came together in one unbroken 20 minute 2× speed sequence, just running faster and slower in various places. It is all one unbroken sequence However there is a spot where the video timing of a passing object is only 500ms late but its obvious. At that point I had to say enough is enough and recognise that further improvements were unnecessary. This is a absolute masterpiece by Vangelis and Anderson exuding positivity that works on many levels. you can go with it anywhere you want it to take you and it will land you right back where you started feeling truly uplifted by the experience.
