Quick overview of a new study showing its worst then what we ever imagined.
"To more accurately record the level of microplastic pollution in ocean waters, the researchers analysed seawater salps, which are tiny, barrel-shaped filter feeders. These invertebrates inhabit ocean waters to depths of around 2 kilometres.
All of the salp samples taken from three different ocean zones had mini-microplastic particles in their stomachs. Since food passes through the creature’s digestive system in two to seven hours, it was an alarming find.
“The thing that truly surprised me the most was that every salp, regardless of year collected, species, life stage, or part of the ocean collected, had plastic in its stomach,”. “A species having 100% ingestion rates is quite extraordinary, and devastating for the food web that eats salps.”
The findings overtake previous estimates of 10 microplastic fragments per cubic metre of ocean water, to a the recalibrated figure to 8.3 million pieces per cubic metre".

I've seen in your blogs at least three times a beach clean up .I totally respect you guys for doing that.95% of surfers,and beach goers take what the ocean offers them but rarely give back.Here in Costa Rica there is a grave problem with plastic in our ocean,and rivers,but no organized effort to clean it up.Where ever you are Hawaii,Costa Rica,Cali,east coast,bring a little bag with you to the beach and pick up litter in your space.You will help to keep the ocean clean,and make a deposit in your karma savings account, pure vida.
I live in Hawaii and there still is a problem but not as bad as other places

Cool to see you guys clean up the beach. Surfers, pro and otherwise, can have such inflated egos because they never ground themselves by thinking outside the 2ft around them or of anyone else. Looks like you guys were raised right. I find picking up plastic a bit like pissing in the wind cause no matter how much or how often you pick it up, it seemingly comes back instantly.....and in greater numbers, but you gotta at least try!
