- I didn't realize our egg drawings had so much influence! Is this Emily's new superpower? Not only did 1 clutch of hognose eggs summon a thunderstorm, but the second clutch summoned their drawings too!

for anyone who doesn't know or is curious, "petrichor" is the smell of rain falling on dry soil
Petrichor will smell differently in different places.
In Doctor Who they described it as the smell of dust after rain.

It's actually the bacteria in the soil causing the smell which is why it smells different depending on where you are.

“Afternoon Delight” is a 70’s song. When I was a little girl I asked my dad what afternoon delight was? He said it was Banana Pudding, which was his favorite dessert. For years I believed him. I sure miss my dad.

Ironically I watched their video again of where they got their new rat and mice racks. I was feeling a bit nostalgic for some of the really old videos but that one popped up and I watched it again to get my mouse/rat pup fix too 😊 But yes!!! Afternoon Delight was done by Starland Vocal Band and came out in the 70’s. I’m 63 and I remember it was #1 in 1976 when I started high school. I actually did comment in that video about the song.

I was born in 1990 and even I know the song lol. I learned about it by watching vh1 and MTV. Where they had those ""I love the (insert decade)"" series.

It's missing rainworms.
The English call them "earthworms", but in German they are called "rainworms", because they come out during rain.
The reason they are called earthworms because they live in the ground.
Oh, that's almost the same as in Swedish! We have the word "daggmask" that translates to "dew worm" in English.
Also for the reasoning that the worm comes out when its wet 😊

New rule: henceforth earthworms are to be referred to as rain worms.
That's actually a misconception! Earthworms/rainworms breathe through their skin, and can absorb oxygen from water and air equally well. They come out when it rains because the sun is dangerous to them (can dry them up) so nighttime and rainy days are the only times they can come up to eat vegetation. The rest of the time they subsist on roots!
I always get a little tickled whenever Umbra is brought up since one of my favourite DnD characters that I've played was a black dragonborn named Umbra. The fact that this is a rain clutch makes me laugh even more as my character was a fire-based sorceress.
You should name one of the babies “Door Dash”. You will then get your fries.

We’re in a drought and our lake levels are very low.
You could just travel the country to everywhere that’s in a drought and help out. Bonus, you can go herping.

I'm reminded of the time my friends and I did a rain dance during a community camping trip. We summoned a storm powerful enough to flood us all out, had to cut the event early lol. Do not mess with the weather!

Fun fact: as another comment mentions, the smell of rain is called "petrichor". Well, humans are able to detect rain from miles away (with some help of the wind)!
Basically, when the water hits something, tiny air bubbles disperse into the air that often include the chemical geosmin, which smells like earth. Human noses are very sensitive to this chemical and can smell it in the air at concentrations as low as .4 ppb!! (for reference, 1 ppm is a general concentration of an odor humans can smell)
TL;DR Humans can smell petrichor, or the smell of rain, from miles away and at concentrations as low as 1ppb!

I believe the rainbow thing was Cartman yes? lol I am 39, so a little older than you guys. Here in Colorado, last year we had the coolest and rainiest May and June I can remember my whole life (memories since about 1990). This year has been the driest.... many plants barely even grew this year and last year they had fungal problems.

A close family friend of mine's mother was the one who gave her pie recipes to the family that owned the dam store by Rapidan Dam. That was their house that went into the river. Luckily everyone was ok, and I believe they got all of their most important possessions out of the house ahead of time. I went to the dam and saw the house and later that day was when it went down. We forgive your thunderstorm summoning antics!!
