I’ve had my Charge 3 since they first came out, the display now is so dim it can only be seen in a dark room. But I love it, since I read the data on the app on my phone
I've had the Charge 3 for about 6 months & I am generally happy with it. It's a nice improvement over the Charge 2 EXCEPT for the screen brightness - now that we're out of the gloomy Ohio winter, I have discovered that the Charge 3 screen is very difficult to see in sunlight and impossible if one is wearing sunglasses. This makes tracking any outdoor workout an exercise in guessing whether one's taps & swipes did what was intended.
Grabbed one the other day... Love it. The screen Auto-off after like 2-3 seconds is INFURIATING though - I get the battery saving thing, but if I'm working out would be nice to have the option to keep it on for longer instead of having to tap it or use the janky wrist flick gesture every few seconds. Not great.

My last fitness tracker was a Fitbit Charge 2. It died from water damage two years ago and haven't used a fitness tracker since. I might give this a try. Great review.
Late to the comment party, but I am receiving replacement number 2 sometime this week because of water damage. The first one barely made it through swimming season. The replacement (I am currently wearing) didn't make it through showers. Once the next one dies from showers/swimming I am switching brands quickly. It means the device can be submerged to 50 meter (~150 feet). Sometimes some divers get all bent out of shape on waterproof ratings, but in my testing (with actual waterproof chambers), it's not really an issue this decade anymore like it used to be 15-20 years ago where watches said they were waterproofed to 50m but couldn't be used for swimming. These days these watches are designed for swimming and such, and are designed to go to 50m in depth (I test watches to 50-meters as well).
I've never swam with it but from just getting a little rain water on it it crapped out. I would even be careful about using liquids to clean the back of it.

They offered a 40% off a versa lite or 25% off other product. I wish it had lasted longer. Hopefully the versa is better.
You can set it up either way. At night I press the button on the side for a few seconds, a screen will come up with a lightbulb. I tap that and turn off the "screen wake option" because the back light will wake me up, no matter if it's at a normal or dim setting. Turn on the screen wake function doing the same thing and it'll activate every time you turn your wrist. Having screen wake on all the time will drain your battery faster though. You can also set the brightness level of the screen to dim, normal and bright. Again if it's on normal or bright the battery drains faster, and also if you're checking it constantly as well.
The Fitbit 3 is down to $99.00. A friend just ordered me one for my birthday (this month in May 2020). I chose the Fitbit 3 over the Fitbit 4 because the reviews for the 4 weren’t very good and many of them were complaints about the setup and the other was that one needs to an app that’s $9.95 (or $9.99) every month to use for the Fitbit 4. The Fitbit 3 had a lot of positive reviews so that’s why I chose this particular watch.
NICE REVIEW. THANK YOU FOR THAT. IT HAS BEEN A YEAR AND HALF SINCE YOUR REVIEW BUT I'M NOW VISITING THIS SITE. I HAVE THE CHARGE 2 AS A PREZZIE FROM HUBBY, BUT SINCE THEN HAD BOUGHT THE VERSA 2 FOR ONE OF THE DAUGHTERS WHO TURNED 40 FEW DAYS BACK. INTERESTING.
Had an alta for the past year and half, was great except for the strap kept breaking. Now i will get Fitbit Charge 3, hope the strap doesn't break so easily.
If it's not too late to return to the store and get your money back you should do so. If not and call Fitbit if you're still under warranty. You'll probably be calling them quite often because each replacement will only last so long
Aerospace grade aluminium is basically just 6061 aluminium alloy, and it doesn't really mean very much. It is a "good" alloy, but stress relief, hardening procedures, etc. are more important to the mechanical qualities of a metal than the alloy itself. The same exact steel for example can have WILDLY varying mechanical qualities when it comes to toughness, hardness, flexibility, etc., just because steps taken during production to achieve different results from the same base material.
I do love my charge 3 but alas it has black lines through the screen. I have followed the advice from Fitbit on how to erase them with no joy. I’ve only had it for 15 months! Thought that it would last a little longer than that. 😔
It is water proof up to 15 meters. You can wear it while swimming in the pool, lake and ocean and you can wear it in the shower, too, although I don't. I don't want my device to get all gunked up with body wash, shampoo and conditioner.
The Charge 3 tracked about 500 steps for my shopping trip to Costco. I park way back in the lot, I loop through the whole warehouse, sometimes more than once if merchandise is moved or I forgot something. Is the shortfall on steps because I am holding onto the cart?
Hey Ray, waiting for your full review of the Fitbit Charge 3. Many reviews from the Units that shipped in October seem to imply that it was rushed to market.
I would really be careful with going in the water with it. Supposed to be waterproof but I don't think they did a very good job of that. Hack one of mine just went from just getting a little rain on it. Not a quality product.
Any idea as to whether the HR monitoring has improved at all (i.e., new hardware)? I like the Charge 2 as an all-day device, but it conks out during exercise. I use a chest strap or a further-up-the-arm optical sensor (currently the Wahoo Fit) when doing a "real" workout.
@F J I just got mine a week ago and it's worked perfectly. No issues with tracking HR, steps taken or sleep data. My fitbit is even better at tracking my sleep than my Sleep Number Sleep IQ app, lol! It automatically tracks my workouts, too. I've had no problems with syncing, either. The only issue I really had with that was when I forgot to put it back on on Wednesday morning after showering (I always take it off when I shower to reduce the buildup of film from my shampoo, conditioner and body wash). I got home and tried to sync it and it wouldn't do it, so I followed the directions on how to reset it and it worked like a charm. The gorilla glass is super strong and the watch bands are comfortable and they stay in place really well. All in all I'm very happy with it best investment I've ever made! I love the app, too. I joined a few groups and the people in them have helped to keep my spirits up and keep me motivated to do my very best. I hope this eases your mind a little with your purchase. When they first rolled out the Charge 3 in November of last year, there were a lot of bugs and issues with it, but they've done a few updates since then and fixed them, from my experience anyways because I haven't had a single issue with it despite all the negative reviews I've seen.
Today, 6/16/2019, my wife gave me a Fitbit Versa fitness tracker watch for Father's Day. I was very excited to receive it. My son spent an hour and a half setting it up for me (that seems too long). 1. The ads says the Fitbit Versa has an atimeter. This is FALSE. The Fitbit Versa can tell me how many flights of stairs I have climbed but it cannot give me the altitude. I have to get that information from my phone. The Fitbit Versa does not have an altimeter. 2. The ad says the Fitbit versa has an blood oxygen monitor (SP02). This is FALSE. Supposedly there is an SP02 sensor on the back of the Fitbit Versa which is not enabled because Fitbit has been unable to get it to work. So why is Fitbit talking about this non-existant feature? 3. The promotional articles say the Fitbit Versa will be able to provide EKG information. This is FALSE. Only basic heart rate information is provided. It does not even show heart beat over time. It just shows current heart rate. I can get that info from a $30 product. 4. The ads says the Fitbit Versa heart rate monitor is accurate. This is partly true and partly false. I hiked 90 minutes today and the Fitbit Versa was able to capture my heart rate 75% of the time. That is better than the old Fitbits that were wildly inaccurate, but it is not wonderful performance. Articles says the Fitbit Charge 3 has a better heart rate monitor. Who knows. I don't trust Fitbit any more. 5. The ads say that the Fitbit Versa has a battery that will last 3 days. This is FALSE. Starting from a full charge, after my 90 minute hike, where I checked my pulse multiple times, used half of the battery. 6. The screen of the Fitbit Versa is very difficult to use. I do not like to stop when hiking. I want to just look at my watch/fitness tracker to see what my stats are. IMPOSSIBLE! Whenever I wanted to check my heart rate, I had to stop, squint at the screen, push a button on the side of the watch for HOME, press a heart icon on the bottom of the watch, then swipe upwards about 20 times before the watch would bring up the series of screens that lead to the heart rate screen. This makes the heart rate function nearly worthless to me. The ONLY feature that the Fitbit Versa has which is useful is a heart rate monitor yet it is way too difficult to use and not very informative and does not always work. I do not need the useless features like an additional alert from my watch if I receive a text or phone call. The alert from my phone is sufficient. I have not tried the music feature of the Fitbit Versa but people who have say it is impossible to precisely manage your music list, resulting in people being forced to listen to music that they hate. BOTTOM LINE: Fitbit is going to lose money on me. I am returning the totally unsatisfactory Fitbit Versa for a refund. I will try out the Fitbit Charge 3. It is sucks, I will return it too. Does anyone make a good heart rate monitor? I am really tired of half-assed crappy electronics that don't work.
Does this light up at night when you roll over? The Charge2 drives my partner crazy and I don't blame him! Lights up the whole room! also, do charge 2 bands work on charge 3?
This is def an entry level fitness band in 2024. Im wondering if its technology is still relevant/competetive with the charge 6 which is about $60 more these days?
Any thoughts on whether or not the face version of this will crack over time? I've had 2 Charge 2s and both faces have cracked after about a year of normal wear. Very frustrating as it usually happens just after the warranty period is over. Go figure.
I still have the first Flex and can’t find my dashboard on my phone. I’m sad that my android only shows other goals. No steps. I’m old, can’t figure out.
Can you mention your experience with the connectivity to Android phones (f.e. SAMSUNG S7 and nieuwer) because I always have problems with a stable connection while tracking my outdoor activities. Just gave back my Fitbit Versa and before that the Ionic and Charge 2! Thanks.
Will keep you informed when receiving the New Charge 3, l have preordered QIBOX screen protector, and will apply them to my Charge 3 and my mom's Charge 2, then will easily recognise what' s the difference on the surface.
Great video! Small remark: the 'female health' tracker was also added to the software of the Fitbit charge 2, so this not an improvement of the Fitbit Charge 3 vs 2.
I have a iPhone 8 by apple and I refuse to change to anything else but apple so does the charge 3 still allow notifications from your phone like the charge 2 does because it’s good for when I’m in class and I get an important message
DC, will you please do a review of the Apollo Neuro? I'm a parenting coach who specializes in self-regulation (I help moms who lose their temper), and I'm interested in these new technologies that are coming out to help people with self regulation. (I'm not affiliated.) Thank you!
I had a Fitbit HR . Now I have the Charge 3. I can't remove the HR information from my computer and install the information for the Charge 3. I did manage to get information onto my iphone by using a different e-mail address. I would also like the information on my computer. Also, you mentioned Yoga as one the exercises. I don't have Yoga as an exercise option.
I purchased the Charge 3 for the purpose of heart rate monitoring.. The problem is the screen display. I can see the "time" very well but the heart rate at the bottom is too small. If only it had a screen displaying heart rate only or a display as big as the "time". Not meant for those visually impaired. I returned the charge 3.
You can change the clock face which has bigger heart rate symbols but i would personally recommend the versa lite which is in that price range and you get more out of it
Yes, on the app you can look through the different watch faces. Mine says Jan 26 under the clock. Unfortunately there's no option in the app to have it display the day of the week, also, which I would love.
Which garmin do you have? I found such bad reviews of garmins in general due to breaking bands and connectivity that I gave up on trying one, although they would be more what I wanted as I cycle...
I had my Fitbit Flex for 5 years, one year of that I was a lifeguard and in the water constantly. Let me tell you, for something that wasn't supposed to be waterproof. I had no trouble with mine. It just finally gave out on me a couple months ago. So I'm looking forwards to getting a new fitbit.

Too funny. I regularly listen to “podcast” videos like these at 150% speed. DC is the only one that sounds better at 75% speed
How?
Brien Malone epic comment!👍👍
Mine comes tomorrow so excited
Good luck with your Fitbit charge 3 May you not have any problems with it
The Fitbit 3 is down to $99.00.
There are many band options on amazon. Super cool ones if rubber/latex ain't your thing.
Thanks - I am going to get one after seeing this!
Be careful I'm on my fourth Fitbit charge 3. If you were to join a Fitbit charge 3 group on Facebook would probably hear more complaints then praises.
Great, fast-pitched summary!
Is there any reason the sleep disturbance dashboard can't work on the previous model? Or will it?
My fitbit3 totally stopped working. So where can I get it checked and fixed?
Hi does this fitbit have ability to record exercise on spin bike not the peloton bike though?
Miss my FitBit One so much :(
A good quick early review does this have 'turn wrist" to turn the screen on?
Yes it does,i hope its more responsive then charge 2 has been
Yes the quick view mode is also available on this device
It does and it's very responsive. I turn off the "screen wake" option at night so the back light won't keep waking me up.
I do love my charge 3 but alas it has black lines through the screen. I have followed the advice from Fitbit on how to erase them with no joy. I’ve only had it for 15 months! Thought that it would last a little longer than that. 😔
How does it do for swimmers in the water or in the Shower?? Thanks!!!
It is water proof up to 15 meters. You can wear it while swimming in the pool, lake and ocean and you can wear it in the shower, too, although I don't. I don't want my device to get all gunked up with body wash, shampoo and conditioner.
It's supposed to be waterproof up to a certain depth, but mine crapped out out just from getting a little rain on it.
Very insightful and detailed review. Thank you.
Is this a good device for a walker and not a runner and also i will not be using gps please let me know thanks in advance
The Charge 3 tracked about 500 steps for my shopping trip to Costco. I park way back in the lot, I loop through the whole warehouse, sometimes more than once if merchandise is moved or I forgot something. Is the shortfall on steps because I am holding onto the cart?
Charge 3 in australia does not have nfc (fitbit pay) only on special edition
i have one in aust I think you have to set payment up in the app before it shows up on the watch
@DC Rainmaker
5:38 can You link/name the 2 from the right band (and base band used)> Thanks
Hey Ray, waiting for your full review of the Fitbit Charge 3. Many reviews from the Units that shipped in October seem to imply that it was rushed to market.

I do a lot of snorkeling and was wondering if I went snorkeling with this on would I be damaging the device? Maybe wash it after in clean tap water
I would really be careful with going in the water with it. Supposed to be waterproof but I don't think they did a very good job of that. Hack one of mine just went from just getting a little rain on it. Not a quality product.
Nice Whistler T-shirt! lol 😄 I've lived there years ago!
Can it track the hr while swimming ???
What’s the color of the band called?
Any idea as to whether the HR monitoring has improved at all (i.e., new hardware)? I like the Charge 2 as an all-day device, but it conks out during exercise. I use a chest strap or a further-up-the-arm optical sensor (currently the Wahoo Fit) when doing a "real" workout.
Jason Ahlstrom yep, the accuracy has been improved. I have an ionic which I believe is very accurate and I think charge 3 is even better than that
The charge 3 is really good at that. I use it for swimming, running and steps mainly
Yes! You should have put your complaint on versa review. BTW I have Versa & was able to use music easily. Depends on user 🤔😁😁
Such a great video, very helpful
Thank you! 👍
you are a great person
Does this light up at night when you roll over? The Charge2 drives my partner crazy and I don't blame him! Lights up the whole room! also, do charge 2 bands work on charge 3?
you can turn it off from the app
No, they are not interchangeable. Just replaced 2 with 3 and having trouble setting up.
Go figure.
The 3 has gorilla glass
Due to the gorillaglass it shouldnt happen. The issue with the Charge 2 is because of the weather.
Correct. Mine too cracked. No help from fitbit. Look at other products.
How do I set the clock to the right time? I have one and can’t change the time I need help please
It is automatically adjusted in the correct time once connected to the phone.
This is a stupid question but can it go 50 meters in the sea?
Great review...but what the hell is goin on with the corner of that wall?🤷♂️
Thanks for the great review Ray!
Thanks.
I wanted to hear how precise is heart-monitor and you didn't mention it at all. Also where is that full review you promised?
I have one and I am very happy. But now belt ( band) broke. Where can I get a spare band in India.
Thanks - really useful information
@DC Rainmaker, Does charge 2 and New Charge 3 have the same surface size?
Will keep you informed when receiving the New Charge 3, l have preordered QIBOX screen protector, and will apply them to my Charge 3 and my mom's Charge 2, then will easily recognise what' s the difference on the surface.
NO. Jk Idk
How is this different from the Inspire HR?
Great video! Small remark: the 'female health' tracker was also added to the software of the Fitbit charge 2, so this not an improvement of the Fitbit Charge 3 vs 2.
Sandra Filot I think everybody gets it in the app, I get it with the Alta
Agree
What does it mean by alignment high or alignment low after relaxing?
I have a iPhone 8 by apple and I refuse to change to anything else but apple so does the charge 3 still allow notifications from your phone like the charge 2 does because it’s good for when I’m in class and I get an important message
Yes it does.
You can edit the exercise options on the app. Switch out one you don't use, like interval training, and replace it with yoga/pilates.
Delete the charge hr.
Would you say the band is more blue or purple?
Does Fitbit 3 have reply to text messages? On it
Chris Planton no
Yes it does. Under notifications there is quick replies.
You can change the clock face which has bigger heart rate symbols but i would personally recommend the versa lite which is in that price range and you get more out of it
Hi everybody! Good review! Is there the possibility to have the date on the watchface?? Thanks
Yes, on the app you can look through the different watch faces. Mine says Jan 26 under the clock. Unfortunately there's no option in the app to have it display the day of the week, also, which I would love.
Will it sync with a Samsung Galaxy A8? The last fitbit i had was not supported with my then galaxy A6
Is this actually good waterproof though? And is the display smooth or is it laggy?
Yup the water prrof is perfecf
Hamza Master And is the display laggy or smooth?
@@waltz9230 The display is smooth but don't expect anything fancy
Mine was defective and it took over a month to get a replacement using their shipping system.
any smart clock app based on the sleep (fitbit's hear trate)?
As much as I liked the fitbit universe for daily wear, they never last much beyond a year. I've gone to full time Garmin. This looks cool though.
Which garmin do you have? I found such bad reviews of garmins in general due to breaking bands and connectivity that I gave up on trying one, although they would be more what I wanted as I cycle...
@@virolana I had a garmin 210 that I've had 5 years. Upgraded to a FR 735xt. Love it.
Yup my Charge 2 screen died after a year (as tens of thousands have...look it up). Got the Viovoactive 3 and man am I loving it! It is what the Charge 3 should have been.
You mean versa?
