Alpe Piazzola

Parcheggiamo nella piazza del Municipio (m. 664) e cominciamo a salire sulla stradella che porta al sagrato della chiesa di San Michele. Seguendo le indicazioni passiamo appena a monte della chiesa e seguiamo un sentiero che prende a destra e poi piega a sinistra, procedendo verso sud e portando ai piedi del filo del dosso che separa dalla Val Grande (alla nostra destra) dalla Val Piccola (alla nostra sinistra). Proseguiamo verso sud, cioè salendo sul versante a sinistra della Val Grande. Quasi subito, però, piega a destra e la attraversa, portandosi sul suo lato occidentale e proseguendo nella salita verso ovest-sud-ovest. Poi supera da sinistra a destra una valletta, piega a destra (nord-ovest) e di nuovo a sinistra. Il bosco si apre un po’ e raggiungiamo il nucleo quasi interamente abbandonato delle Case di Sotto (o Ca’ di Sotto, m. 805), che il sentiero attraversa salendo diritto. Procediamo diritti, salendo di nuovo nel bosco (seguiamo i segnavia bianco-rossi, per evitare di imboccare sentieri laterali), con pochi tornanti, verso sud, per poi uscirne di nuovo alla baita più bassa del nucleo della Piana (m. 958). Ad un bivio prendiamo a destra, seguendo le indicazioni per Piazzola, data a 40 minuti. La pista sale ripida, fra rade piante. Passiamo a destra di un nuovo nucleo di baite e piegando leggermente a sinistra. Attraversato il modesto torrente della Val Grande, proseguiamo verso est-sud-est, salendo gradualmente in un bosco di betulle ed abeti, per uscirne alla parte bassa di una nuova fascia di prati. Siamo ormai alle baite basse di Piazzola, la pista supera per poi immettersi in una più larga pista sterrata, la quale, a sua volta, dopo pochi metri confluisce nella carrozzabile (qui con fondo sterrato) che da Castello e Tizzone sale a Piazzola. Proseguiamo verso sinistra e dopo pochi minuti, ci affacciamo alla luminosa spianata della parte alta di Piazzola.
We park in the Town Hall square (664 m) and begin to climb the small road that leads to the churchyard of the church of San Michele. Following the directions we pass just above the church and follow a path that takes to the right and then bends to the left, proceeding south and leading to the foot of the edge of the hill which separates Val Grande (on our right) from Val Piccola (on our left). We continue south, that is, climbing the left side of Val Grande. Almost immediately, however, it turns to the right and crosses it, moving to its western side and continuing the climb towards the west-southwest. Then it crosses a small valley from left to right, bends to the right (north-west) and to the left again. The forest opens up a little and we reach the almost entirely abandoned nucleus of the Case di Sotto (or Ca' di Sotto, 805 m), which the path crosses as it goes straight up. We proceed straight, climbing again into the woods (we follow the red-white trail signs, to avoid taking side paths), with a few hairpin bends, towards the south, and then exit again at the lowest hut in the nucleus of the Piana (958 m). At a crossroads we turn right, following the signs for Piazzola, given at 40 minutes. The track climbs steeply, between sparse plants. We pass to the right of a new group of huts and bend slightly to the left. Having crossed the modest Val Grande stream, we continue towards east-south-east, gradually climbing into a birch and fir forest, to exit at the lower part of a new band of meadows. We are now at the lower huts of Piazzola, the track goes beyond and then enters a wider dirt track, which, in turn, after a few meters joins the carriage road (here with a dirt surface) which from Castello and Tizzone goes up to Piazzola. We continue to the left and after a few minutes, we look out onto the bright esplanade of the upper part of Piazzola.
