Music might originate somewhere, but it will always spread around the world and people will start experimenting with that style. This is the nature of music. The same has happened to rock 'n roll, blues, country music, gospel, Indian bollywood music, etc. Nothing wrong with other people trying out the different styles. That's exactly what makes so great, as it can cross borders very easily.

As a South African let me correct you brother. South Africa is a nation of rhythm, just like Nigeria. You speak of Nigerians being superstars and having the means to take Amapiano further. Lol. One of the main reasons South Africans are not 'international superstars' is not many of us are hellbent on English. As a result, our music, no matter how good, will not gain traction internationally. Amapiano is a genre rooted in SA dance and groove inspired culture and its popularity beyond SA was actually a surprise and unintentional. I think people actually caught feelings not because a popular Nigerian artist is exploiting the genre but more that Nigerians didn't acknowledge its origin before they began bragging about how they took Amapiano to the "next level", whatever that means. But as said, we South Africans exist in our own league of rhythm and are not in competition with Nigeria or any country. Nigerians are more than welcome to adopt Amapiano sounds since music is a universal language, just don't drag us into it or feel like you're upgrading something you didn't even invent without crediting the originator.

How many South Africans give credit to Jamaicans for using reggae? I never hear or read Lucky Dube gave credit to Jamaicans. SA insecurities is to say the least petty. Do Nigeria have to roll over like puppies to SA just because we incorporated logdrums to our beats? I don't hear SA calling out Diamond Platinumz or other Africans infusing or adopting amapiano. SA obsession with Nigerians is astounding. We owe SA nothing . We have done enough for the genre already and if SA makes another one and we like it we will use it too. All this noise is because we are successful. Ego without substances and false sense of entitlement is the bane of most South Africans.

Nigerian Music industry has learned how to package the raw musical talent for world entertainment. For example SA music in the Lion King film was appreciated worldwide because it was packaged properly for appreciation worldwide. Each tribe in Africa has its own traditional music , but it is not trending in the raw form, just as I may not appreciate European classical music or jazz or pop music if the sounds do not resonate with me.

South Africans will not have a problem if it's another person from the west or Asia that is making amapiano. It's just because it's Nigerians, another African country, that's why they're angry and bitter. I have seen a song on this app called Chinese amapiano and I went under the comments waiting to see south Africans coming for her but it's just all praise from the comments stating how they love the music.
South Africans just hate that Nigerians are successful with the genre. They don't care if other countries do amapiano music as long as the country is not in Africa because I think they believe they're better than other Africans since white people and people from other nationality all call South Africa home. The black man has a fundamental problem. The African will borrow jazz, hip pop, r&b, reggae, dance hall, rap etc and fuse these genres into their local music and sees no problem with that but if a fellow African takes their genre and adds it to their music it becomes an issue. Music is universal whether it’s created by a people or individual and can’t be gated.

Amapiano was already hot all over Southern Africa and Eastern Africa long before the Nigerian artists and audiences jumped on it. International doesn't just mean Europe or the USA, Africa itself is very large. Uncle Waffles and Sha Sha are not South African, they are from Eswatini and Zim respectively.
You lot act like Nigeran music has always outdone the rest of Africa, not true. There are 'superstars' from every region. SA has the most grammys in Africa. Nigerian music has always been relevant but Afrobeats only went next level globally around 2016. And even then, its not like SA was globally irrelevant before Nigerians jumped on Amapiano. South African music scene was gaining lots of international attention due to social media, i.e Jerusalema was bigger than almost any Nigerian hit song in the last decade and brought more global attention to the SA music scene.
Lets also make it clear that Nigerian artists do not make Amapiano, they make Afrobeats/Afropop fusion and introduced that to audiences that already familiar with Afrobeats. They deserve credit, for giving SA more exposure but saying Amapiano is nothing without them is false, and an insult. They jumped on it when it was already trending. The same way Latino, Jamican, American and UK artists also helped spread Afrobeats internationally through collabs when it was already trending. No different from saying Drake made Afrobeats.
