    This is guitar porn. That neck joint especially, there's just no way you can justify that. I had barely learned to live with the part coming through, but then you hit me with that arc. And the the trussrod cover and the inlays and the woods.

    Wow. A weapon reminiscent of Def leppard (maybe not the fret inlays). And a backing track with echos of Shine on you crazy Diamond (till at least 2/3rds the way through). Epic labour of love. How does one price something like this?

  • @Fliegenpilzkonsument
    @Fliegenpilzkonsument 3 года назад

    The only thing that irritates me here are the knobs. The rest is just stunning. I don't want to know the price for this utter masterpiece. Simply amazing work.

  • @benleydon
    @benleydon 7 лет назад +1

    If I'm nitpicking - A) Tuning pegs look weirdly fat and too big and clunky for the guitar B) Wooden vol and tone knobs seem rather tall and dis-proportionate C) The repeated heraldic motif inlaid into the back neckthru stripes just seems superfluous and out of keeping with the rest of the guitar. If they had to be there, at least they could have been laid out symmetrically or equidistantly on either side of the string through ferrules. As it stands it looks like the ferrules erupted unexpectedly perilously close to a set of inlays.
    Lovely wood tho. Cor!

    • @BOTzerker
      @BOTzerker 7 лет назад

      Keeping the nitpicking to one section, the front of the headstock is boring. And while the orange stain makes the body wood pop, it looks messy on the (ash?, maple?) part of the neck. Still an amazing piece! (Editing my comment that this guitar may have been a customer requested piece; I thought Ben had made it just to do it.)

    • @tyler_bt3326
      @tyler_bt3326 7 лет назад

      Skirmisher yea this was a customer requested build. I think luthiers have to remove personal opinion from a build, unless they have a suggestion the customer likes, because someone paying that much for something like this likely wants exactly what they ordered. I'm mean it has SD Zephyrs ffs, only rich people or idiots buy them xD

  • @tuxcode7344
    @tuxcode7344 4 года назад

    You sir, are an artist.. Truly great work. But what baffles me is the cover for the cavity at the back. Could you make (or have you already done) a video about how you made that? I would like to use flamed or burled or birdseye maple for the body of the guitar I'm building and if possible, I'd like to do something similar for the back cavity cover. Now I basically understand how you do most things when building a guitar. I'm not saying I'm good at it or indeed able to do it at all, but my dad is a reasonably creative carpenter and I understand how most of it is done.. With that back cavity cover, I don't understand how you did it.. I know building this guitar has been a while ago, but i thought making a cover that follows the pattern of the body wasn't possible. You seem to prove otherwise..

    • @CrimsonCustomGuitars
      @CrimsonCustomGuitars  4 года назад

      Hey Tim, it is all about making the right template. A negative one for the cavity with a positive one for the actual back plate you want to install. What a few of my build series and I'm sure you'll see me do it a few times. B

  • @raoulduke8382
    @raoulduke8382 7 лет назад

    Simply gorgeous. I have 2 questions. I understand how you got the back plate to match the grain pattern by slicing off a thin slab from the back, but how did you line it up when you cut the actual plate? Or did you cut the plate first, and use that to locate where you would route the cavity? And secondly, the black veneer you used in the neck lamination... I've tried dyeing a maple veneer black and no matter how much I saturated it, the core of the veneer stayed blonde, almost creating a black/white/black purfling look... how do you get your veneer so through and through black? Is it an ebony veneer? Cheers.

    Hi Ben, if you may endulge me this question. The inlay on the neck is fantastic. Some pictures show a white(ish) glue surrounding the inlay but you then you do some process of sanding? and the white outline is gone. What do you do to get rid of the glue outline?

  • @tylersambo9032
    @tylersambo9032 7 лет назад

    Looks amazing Ben! Love the Ebony arrow inlays on the rear of the guitar, very classy. Just out of curiosity, what materials were the red/blue portions of the neck made from? The colors are pretty vibrant, chalk it up to my lack of woodworking experience but I've never seen wood like that, we're the strips dyed?
