Just have to laugh at this point. The one player we don't have a replacement for gets injured, just after our 2 new signings got injured & our only other left 8 got sent off for touching a moving football (on a football pitch) and getting violently booted in the leg.

However disappointing it is to lose key players to suspension and injury, it happens. This is a true test of the team and the manager, a test of depth and perhaps youth. If youre not ready then why are you in the squad in the first place? After this next set of fixtures we will all have a much better understanding how far off man city we really are. De bruyne missed loads of games last season and still city win the title, squad depth is key and this is a true test of that.

😩 We’ve had such an unlucky start to the season. Merino injured in his first training session, Rice’s Red Card and dropping points to Brighton at home and now Odegaard injured in the international break. I can’t help but reflect how fortunate we were last season with injuries, we had a lot of things go our way and I think to compete for the league title you need that. So although early, if Odegaard is out for 2 months, given his pivotal role in this team you can’t help thinking it’s not our season already! I will remain hopeful though.. I think the games against Spurs and Man City are now HUGE. We still a lot of talent in the squad and the leadership of Mikel - COYG!

    Hi Charles,
    My Sp*rs lineup:
    GK: Raya
    DF: White - Saliba - Gabriel - Timber/Calafiori
    MF: Partey - Jorginho/Zinchenko - Havertz
    ST: Saka - Trossard - Martinelli/Sterling
Being more defensively solid at LB... means the lack of pace from Jorginho/Zinchenko is negated to some extent.
I keep on thinking that Arteta has been negligent by not giving Zinchenko more minutes in midfield.
Going to have to give Nwaneri some minutes this week. Hopefully Jesus is close to returning.
If Odegaard is out for some time, then Havertz becomes our most key player to keep fit.

The problem with the idea of Vieira staying to cover for Ode is that he wasn't performing at a standard to cover for Ode. He might be a more natural replacement in terms of style, but his ability was only shown in flashes.

Re: Zinchenko playing the Ødegaard role, I used to be on this bandwagon. However, the more I've thought about it lately, the more I think it's an absolute NO.
A key attribute of Ødegaard playing that creator role effectively is NOT LOSING THE BALL - which is the opposite of what Zinchenko is. Yes Zinchenko can pick out a pass but you can't guarantee he won't lose the ball in key moments as we've seen him do playing left back. Infact if I were an opposition manager in a match where Zinny is playing the 10 role, pouncing on him whenever he has the ball will be a key part of my tactical plan. I have huge reservations about it. For the NDL, I say stick Jorgi in there alongside Thomas and let Trossard and Kai interchange the false 9 & 10 roles during play.

  • @Maxthekillbot
    @Maxthekillbot 6 дней назад +2

I feel like whenever we have some sort of injury issue it is always exacerbated by other injuries that happen to occur at the same time. The Saliba injury towards the end of the 22/23 season wouldn't have been so bad if Tomiyasu wasn't also injured at the same time. Timber's injury last season was made worse for us because Tomiyasu and Zinchenko get injured multiple times too meaning Kiwior had to fill in at left back for a little bit. I think if we didn't happen to have Merino injured right before Odegaard got injured this wouldn't be such a bad position, and obviously Rice's absence for the NLD also makes a big difference. A midfield of Rice - Partey - Merino would probably work pretty well, it would certainly not have the same creative output as it would if Odegaard was there, but Rice and Merino would have the legs and pressing ability and other players like Saka, Havertz, Trossard could do more creative work.

  • @DeathByDeadite

Ødegaard was always going to get injured at some point, especially with the amount of football he plays. It is a catastrophic failure by the club to let go of ESR & Vieira without bringing in a suitable backup to Ødegaard. We got lucky last season with injuries and unfortunately due to overplaying, poor planning and a bit of misfortune our PL title hopes are in serious danger of falling apart already.

I agree that maybe we will see a midfield of Jorginho and Partey at the back. Not because they are the most reliable but they are the only option we have right now and the defense line will surely cover their vulnerability regarding on pace or pressure.
As for the attacking part, i can't see Havertz playing attacking midfield alone. He is a big threat no doubt about it, but Havertz is more of a box to box goal threat rather than putting composure in midfield. We will definitely struggle in midfield if Havertz starts playing the Odegaard role alone. Jorginho and Partey both lacks the pace to link up the midfield and attacking line.
In conclusion, our tactics might be a simple defend well and counter at the best moment, which we don't really like it because it goes way off compared to how we played for the past 2~3 years(Except the city game). But reality does force us to change in certain circumstances. Would still love to see either Nwaneri or Salah Eddine get some minutes though. It's a big game but we will need them in the long run for the season and this will be the chance for them.
P.S)That expression from start of the vid XD

Injury crisis line-up solution for Spurs:
    Martinelli. Havertz. Saka
    (Trossard) (Sterling) (Jesus)
    Timber. Partey. Zincheko
    (Jorginho) (Havertz )(Nwaneri)
    Calefiori. Gabriel . Saliba White
    (Kiwior)
    Raya
Zinchenko starts in Odegaard's position. Timber starts up on the left in midfield- Jorginho will sub on for him. He comes on when opposition legs are tired.
Depending on recovery, Calefiori starts at left back. If he's not ready, then start Kivior and sub on Calefiori.
The Frontline starts with Martinelli, Havertz, and Saka. By the end of the match, the Frontline is Trossard, Sterling, and Jesus. In the second half Havertz drops back to midfield and plays for the tired and subbed off Partey.
The revelation will be Zinchenko playing in the Odegaard role. He has the intelligence, the skill, the delicacy, and range of passing. Nwaneri is his backup come the second half
You need to keep Timber on the pitch as long as possible because he may sub for anyone in the defense who goes down...

But injury is follow the law of average, just like the bad calls go your way. Plus they played so many minutes and so many high leverage games, it will take toll on your body. National teams don’t owe anything to clubs, and injuries are part of the game. While it’s unfortunate, we were quite lucky last season. Now, however, we’re seeing the consequences of Arteta’s lack of a solid Plan B. This is the moment where we’ll truly see what kind of manager he is. It’s easy when everything goes your way, but now he needs to step up and find solutions. If he can navigate this tough period, we’re still in contention for the title. But if he fails, third place is likely our ceiling.

It was always going to happen. You sell/loan both ESR and vieira and of course, Odegaard gets injured. The other thing is, even if Odegaard didnt get injured for the whole season, he cant play every game in the season...so what was/is Arteta's plan? Surely, as good as Nwanieri looks, he cant be expected to just jump straight in at the deep end and do what Odegaard does.
The only thing i can think to do in this situation is play both Jorginho and Partey as DMs, with either Trossard or Havertz as the CAM and Striker so they can interchange throughout the game like they did last season?

All my anger is directed only at Odegaard. Only he could decide to go or stay, not Arsenal. He let his pride possibly cost us the season. He couldn't finish the game against Brighton, he knows what an unbelievably tough week we have after the international break, Norway's 2 games were borderline meaningless and one involved flying all the way to Kazakhstan.
Arteta made very clear last season, he only saw ESR as a left-sided player. He was never cover for Odegaard. Vieira had no confidence. Does anyone think we could compete for titles with Veira playing for 2 months. It was always going to be the case that we couldn't compete for Prem if Odegaard was out for long periods of time, even with last season's team. When Odegaard was out a few games last season it was Haverz filling in at Right-8, not ESR or Vieira.

It’s time to stop messing around
We can play five at the back with Califori and White as wingbacks
    Gabriel, Saliba, Timber centre
    Partey and Jorginho in front
    Play Saka in Odegaard position
Sterling and Havertz up front and hit them hard on the counter

  • @mattc1176

On the squad point: I could give any of you £75m to spend. There are no backups to Martin Odegaard and the role he plays in this team. And anyone in the same ballpark isn't going to come to be a bench player anyway.
It says it all that if Vieira was here he wouldn't crack the starting XI for the NLD anyway. And I agree with Charles that it was just the right time to sell ESR.
So... We have to hope that it's not too bad - no team can replace the production of it's best players if they're out. If City are missing Rodri and Haaland they aren't the same proposition either.

  • @ThePundit99

let’s all just remember it’s the fault of the club, if we don’t have a player that can come in for odegaard without significant drop off then they must believe in Nwaneri or someone else… so whatever happens now is their fault cos we got told we are good.. we sold ESR and loaned Vieira both of which i agree with, but madness that we haven’t gone for someone like Eze, Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz, and others who were all available… no excuses

Hi Charles, this isn’t looking great 😵‍💫 I think we were super blessed last season to not have too many injuries or suspensions to key players, but we are 3 games in and it feels like everything is falling apart, even though its not even 4 games into a 38 game PL season. I was kinda hoping our way to the title would be similar to when Liverpool won it and just go-go-go that by the time the pandemic stopped everything they were clear. Guess we will have to take a different approach and we probably have to focus on just staying in the race until our squad is back to full depth. 😅

🔴 Why are we worried about Nwaneri playing to cover Odegaard when the boy is more than good enough. 17 shouldn't even come into it. If you're old enough you're good enough. When KDB was out last season for 6 months Pep didn't hesitate to play Oscar Bobb! He played Rico Lewis when Walker was out! Why do our fan base behave like this after 1 or 2 injuries. Yes it's a big blow that Odegaard is out but we have options. Trossard can play in the pockets and interchange with Kai. Nwaneri can play there also. Kai can play there. Jesus can play up top. Zinchenko can play in midfield. That's what the squad is there for. 🔴

This alarmist mentality is precisely why older folks like myself is tuning out social media. Injuries happen in football, it’s part of the sports. Unlike you rather than the doom and gloom, it’s a team sports, chance for someone else to step up. Plus it’s September you can’t win or loose the league now. I rather players get injured now and fit towards the tail end. We will navigate this difficult period and come out better for it.
