My son (15yo sophomore 5'11") is on the HS basketball team and wants to dunk. We got into some Starting Strength style work plus plyo stuff after 8th grade. He can grab rim easily now. I keep sending him these videos. It's working! 🏀 He was like 130lbs freshman weigh in and got to 150lbs this past June. Still pretty lean/skinny so majority of that was lean tissue. I chase him with protein day and night.
@@troliskimosko thank you! Just passing on whatever I have learned to the next gen and I'm instructed them to teach/train their kids better than I trained them!
As a skater in 96' to a army vet by 06' a dad by 16' to now the body is always adapting. Just mold it right and know when it's working or just take a break. There are 80 year Olds still improving.
9:15 yeah I play and coach tennis. When I first got back into tennis and lifting my right IT band was tight, fixed that. Then my left rotator was weak, fixed that. Now my left glute medius tore a little while deadlifting, fixing that now. "Injuries move around!"
I’m trying to build a good workout to prioritize basketball as well as strength and explosiveness. I made a split based off some videos I saw. If anyone has any advice or tweaks that I should make to this list, let me know. I’ll post the split below. Day 1 - Plyometric workout Day 2 - Explosive workout Day 3 - Plyometric workout Day 4 - Strength workout Day 5 - Plyometric workout Day 6 - Push workout Day 7 - Pull workout Also, on my explosive workouts, I do 5 sets of 3 reps light weight. Would you recommend that I progressively overload with light weight training? If so, how often, and how much should I increase weight?
Are you able to stay consistent to this routine? Even then, I would recommend incorporating rest days due to the fact you could risk overtraining with this amount of volume and fatigue your CNS.
7:50, there are scientific studies that show that doing something enjoyable or even less unpleasent right after something that you may not like brings much more "fun" for your brain than not doing this enjoyable or less unpleasent thing. I think that vertasium has a video about it
the only part where genetics really helped was height. everything else was hard work, work ethic, obsession with the art and science of the body! well deserved Isaiah!
10:00 Isiah, check out a book called "Exercised" by Lieberman. Think he's a Harvard guy. Fun book on the history of exercise. He's got some RUclips videos around too.
Very informative. However, I want to know a bit more on healthy progression in the weight room, and for an athlete, (in this case a dunkers) body in general. Specifically information on what supplements should be taken such as; creatine, protein powder, vitamin d etc.
10:50 I tell my tennis players "you must do the gym work to stay injury free and on the court. The court deteriorates your body, you must re-invest in the gym. It's not optional."
Both of knee extention exercies. Leg press can help you but squat is better because more similar to the jumping. And have a lot of variations for improving diffrent qualities (single leg, quarter, half, deep, etc.)

You’re a great father 👍 He’s gonna really appreciate you helping him out like this and sending him quality training knowledge in the future.

i have a +-34 inch vert and its considered really athletic for the high school level in my country lol
Have you ever thought about applying your abilities and train to get a gold medal in the high jump or long jump?
Can i do leg press instead of squats and have similar results
Just learn how to squat

Nope
@@toptenba4900jus stop being scared the barbell is not gon kill u
Squat is better because it teaches you muscle coordination and doesn’t isolate the muscle
how did dunk camp go?
Yo isaiah what camera do you use
19th, from italy
Eastbay at 14. Is that good? My reach is 7'6
Of course is that a question. You probably have a 40 inch vert minimum vert
🔥🔥🔥
Did you tear your bicep from all the elbow dunks?!?!? It looks like there’s an indent.
I think it’s just a high insertion
