@dwilliams02 Ehh, I don’t feel like 4 years ago with the election of Biden is akin to the end of Return of the Jedi and the celebration of the return to freedom; although I’m sure in many ways that I do not yet know it is in reality that way for many things and for many people and that should not be understated. And it is important to keep in mind the election of Trump is DEFINITELY akin to Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith with an authoritarian pretending to care about freedom and democracy while also dissolving those very things to gain more power. However, I cannot help but feel like electing Biden is more akin to The Phantom Menace with Chancellor Valorum: some old white guy in power whom may not be wrecking shit up, and may even be trying to fix some things, but ultimately is just maintaining the system as it is: broken. I think it is this issue with the Democratic Party, it’s not being what it really should be and is instead maintaining the issues that the Conservative Party creates and benefiting from that, and that is causing the problems we see now. Like how we see the people in the Senate in The Phantom Menace become tired and disillusioned with the slow turning wheels of a broken democratic system that just runs right over them in service of corporate greed. But this disillusionment did not inspire meaningful change. Instead it became hijacked by those same corporate interests that used their power to inspire into the well meaning populace, tired of the legitimate issues of the governance, by providing an opposition to the democratic system with a promise that libertarianism would be the cure and create freedom. When in actuality such a system would only make the corporations more free to own everything, and those ideas actually turned out to become gateways to the alt-right. This, I think, is how you radicalize a liberal into conservative politics. And Palpatine -Trump- just has to sit back and watch.
Andor's been absolutely amazing featuring some immaculate allegories to a proletarian revolution with the prison break arc, Nemik's manifesto and Maarva's speech inciting a Ferrix uprising. Been absolutely incredible to watch.
Indeed. The class analysis in this show is incredible. The real, tangible weight and the impending inching towards a breaking point and all the material consequences that come with it are all so beautifully shown. Andor's journey is mirroring many real world revolutionaries in the most poignant way. Brought me to tears more times than one. Best Star Wars media ever imo.
Nemik manifesto is riddled with idealism the hallmark of Liberal philosophers of 18th century, what kind of proletariat revolution you are talking about his manifesto doesn't have a drop of dialectical materialism .
@@tailssonicteam1604 I recognized it as well. Thought it was a movie but can't find anything other than an Edmond Burke quote. And I am sure I didn't know who Edmund Burk was before I googled it
@@tailssonicteam1604 It is a quote that was widely attributed to the18th century Irish-British statesman and philosopher Edmund Burke. More than likely though, it was taken from the 19th century philosopher, John Stuart Mill. _"Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject."_
I have a feeling that Nemik’s manifesto is going to continue to play a role in the series going forward, probably to be continuously quoted from and even spread to the masses later on to inspire more to the rebellion.
Or it was passed from Luthen. Luthen predicted crack downs would shift people who only tolerate or fear the Empire into hating it, and Luthen moves in some of the same circles, as he already is an associate of Mon Mothma and will probably be one for Bail Organa before long, if he's not already.
They both speak facts tho. I always thought it sounded kinda goofy but when you look at it fr Yoda doesn't mean "don't try to do something," he means literally "you either do it or not" and honestly that's the ONLY two results to happen. You won't know the result unless you try to DO, but if you fail you only will DON'T.
In context, they don't. Yoda's advice was to make Luke, who was already trying, to act with the full intent and faith that success was possible. Not just try half-heartedly. Nemik's was for people like Cassian, who wasn't even trying at all because he didn't think doing anything about it was worth it.
@rcbmmines4579 Aye, the core the the message is both cases is "Believe." Yoda constantly did his best to teach Luke that what you see with your eyes is not always a proper indication of the truth (e.g. Judge me by my size, do you?). In Nemik's case, it's asking people to trust that you are not the only one fighting for the cause, the everything you do to fight against tyranny and injustice matters in the same way every drop of water matters when putting out a fire. A few may seem like nothing, but in aggregate they have the ability to change things.
@@josephperez2004 well said. In the end, while the words out of context seem contradictory, in context they work together perfectly. Yoda and Nemik both shared wisdom and motivation in the right direction for Luke and Cassian to move forward.
This is the most chemically pure form of Star Wars. A deeply, deeply moral tale. Every small act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. Remember this, try.
I feel like the writing in Andor is a first for Star Wars. The sheer evil of the empire is portrayed in the show in a way I’ve never seen before. This tribute showed that perfectly.
But it also managed to show the Empire as an organized body. In the original trilogy, it seems really like they're just a bunch of buffoons, but in Andor they're actually quite scary. It's like the first time Stormtroopers actually hit their targets.

Andor has surpassed all my expectations and recalibrated what I expect from any star wars show or film. An absolute master piece. The bar has been set.
Nemik's character is so great because he contrasts so much with the state of rebellion at this time, which is just a group of cells with no ideological consistency and very little coordination. Everyone else fights due to personal convictions, but Nemik is the only one in the show who understands the fundamental contradictions of the Empire that will lead to it's downfall.

@@CrazyWerewolf444 ... and so, this idealistic young man's life was ended, his manifesto passed on to Andor - who would be convinced to be a rebel and heroically make sure that the Death Star plans were forwarded to the rebellion, costing him his own life. There are whole armies - battalions - that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then, remember this: The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this - The day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try." If that's not the best monologue in Star Wars, then what is?

So many moments from this show are so inspiring, comforting and scary at the same time. Makes me feel like someone else gets what the threat of the Empire REALLY represents... The idea of a massive empire that sees you as inferior and slowly wants you dead isn't really fantasy to me anymore, that's just current events
My feeling is that in the US at least the better analogy is the late Republic Era. We haven't quite reached the phase where a rebellion is needed. The fascists on the right are still working behind the scenes, trying to create the right context for a Reichstag Fire, or an Order 66 as it were. Demonize minorities, go after books, install friendly judges, cozy up to fascist governments abroad, shatter the social contract by immiserating workers, denigrate education and expertise, bring a particular version of religion into state machinery, etc. They're getting closer and closer to their goals, but we don't live in a "fallen world" quite yet, and one might hope that there is still time to avert it without the violent Rebellion that would be needed if they succeed.
Watching this again - to anyone who reads this comment, have hope. Stand together, help each other, do what you can for those who can't take care of themselves. We will persist. Try.
What Andor made me do is rethink the entire Star Wars saga. We are told the Jedi are the good guys but they effectively left the fighting to play a long game to eventually defeat the sith. However billions suffered while the Jedi were waiting for Luke to mature.
This is one of the parts of Andor that convinced me this is some of the peak writing of our decade, because it rings SO damned true. The first instinct of a human put into chains is to break them. The second instinct is to break the chains of another. The third instinct is to kill the person who put the chains there. This piece of writing provokes so many thoughts. How many countless millions of serfs, slaves, and oppressed peoples died to take us where we are today? How many perished to make the statement, "I do not care if I live only one moment longer, but I will not be property. I will not be dictated to. I will be myself, even if I am myself for one second. I will be FREE, even if for an hour." Andor and Rogue One are such excellent pieces of writing because they capture the heartbreak and pain and effort that it took to get us here, and that it will continue to take to battle oppression. It captures the heart of the fight for freedom that continues in each generation. It's hard. At times, it's impossible. But to give up is to betray yourself and your own soul. To betray those beside you. Liberty is a precious thing more worthy than gold, and for all the heartbreak, pain, and suffering it can take to acquire it or even just to preserve it, it is worth preserving at any and all cost.
It's amazing to see what Star Wars always meant to me finally encapsulated on screen. Andor isn't just the best Star Wars show, it's one of the best television shows ever created.
For some this is a reality in the real world, not fiction. But this day may come to all of us, these words are very real, and prophetic no matter where any of us are.
Just listened to this on repeat while making a pumpkin pie….this is gonna be the most rebellious pie ever. Thanks for creating this incredible video. Seriously one of the best edits I’ve seen.
Like V said from V for Vendetta: "Underneath this mask there is more than flesh, underneath this mask there is an idea and ideas are bulletproof." Also highlights Leias words to Tarken: the tighter your grip the more systems slip through your fingers.
If the Star Wars comics are any indication, Disney will steal it and use it if they want to, and then they'll press copyright infringement claims against the creator of this video.
Interestingly, we hear Luthen declaring that the empire could and might already be unstoppable. That's why he needs Aldhani. I thought it was odd. No tyranny so harsh can last forever. Then Nemik started explaining his hope
Of the Star Wars shows we have gotten, Andor is by far the one that has surprised me the most. I wasn't much of a fan of Rogue One but Andor has given that movie and the Character a lot more depth than what I expected them to do. At times Andor doesn't feel like it is a Star Wars show even though it is, it feels like its own thing as the writing and character depth isn't something I 100% expect from Star Wars all the time.
Only if you're a disgusting fascist, you interpret it this way. USA is the worst evil on this planet, next to all the reactionary governments of the world.
Absolutely brilliant edit, and you have so wonderfully highlighted the words he emphasised on. Andor is truly one of the most nuanced and moving live action content we’ve ever gotten from Star Wars
I love the repetition of "Try." Force Users "Do or do not - there is not try." But for the everyday people of the galaxy, they can only try. It really highlights how Andor is a story about the people rather than the Force Users.

Absolutely tear rendering stuff. Couldn't tell you how many times I cried watching the beauty of Andor and Rogue One. By far the absolute best cinema in the series since the original trilogy hands down. Tony Gilroy is absolutely amazing for the job he has done and I do not think he is or will be credited enough with the world building / character development that set in motion the events of the original trilogy. I could turn out to be wrong there, only time will tell though. I feel he is getting much less credit than he deserves though.

This is the most beautiful thing I read in politics. No day passes on me without reading it. This manifesto is beautifully written and elegantly composed of what tyranny is and how to overcome it. Full of power written by man with huge vision for change .
This show did more to showcase the birth of the rebellion and the importance of that fight than all of Rebels ever did. The empire is a frightening ,all encompassing shadow. One that must be fought, no matter how unfair the fight
I remember listening to the last bit of Nemik’s manifesto in the finale and thinking how well it would fit into a Star Wars tribute. You orchestrated the simulation of his words perfectly. Great work! Also, do you think that you will make any videos about the Imperial side of the show. I loved how Andor really demonstrated the sheer tyranny of the Empire, especially with characters such as Dedra Meero.
Never has a Star Wars show so thoroughly explored Totalitarianism in power, along with its peculiar ideology of total domination from within through the mass atomization of the whole people, brought about from isolation and erosion of the public trust, and the total elimination of spontaneity in people's lives. These are the preconditions for turning the actions of every person into reactions so one person cannot be defined separately from all the others. Under such conditions, resistance becomes near impossible as not 1o people can come together and form bonds of trust and any semblance of common humanity becomes harder and harder to identify as thinking is replaced by conditioned responses. Totalitarian power, in the views of its leaders, is basically created through the organization of isolated people who are atomized into individual units whose coming together, essentially, draw power, similarly to how friction or galvanic currents generate electricity. As a result, these movements tend to openly defy rationality by adhering to an endless and structureless momentum that must always remain in motion. The only way to enforce this kind of continuous mass momentum is through constant terror and constant purges. Violence, intolerance, and hatred are not based on any constitutionalized set of principles; it’s simply what allows an atomized group of people to remain organized and provides the momentum so necessary for Totalitarian organizations to carry out their murderous and dominating objectives for dominations sake alone. And never has a show more embodied that the best defense against such an ideology is spontaneity and love because the only thing that holds it together is hate and terror.
To everyone coming here after November 5 - you've got this. Don't give up hope and remember Nemik's words. :)

Here to watch this again... on a much darker day.

Andor's been absolutely amazing featuring some immaculate allegories to a proletarian revolution with the prison break arc, Nemik's manifesto and Maarva's speech inciting a Ferrix uprising. Been absolutely incredible to watch.
Not only for the proletariat revolution for any revolution against tyranny
Happy to see I wasn't the only one that noticed

There can be no "do" if you don't first "try".

I don't see the lines as contradictory as some do, rather they are complimentary. First one must get started, or try, then one must do
@@altarofkubrickfloyd Nemik is wiser than Yoda.
Head canon. Liea has read the manifesto and studied it. That's where the "More you tighten your grip" line comes from.
I have a feeling that Nemik’s manifesto is going to continue to play a role in the series going forward, probably to be continuously quoted from and even spread to the masses later on to inspire more to the rebellion.
It'd be to much for them to handle
Kinda like Ezra’s message. Btw I cried while this played in the finale. I stayed up for the inspiration.
quite possibly
Yeah - I'll go with that!
Or it was passed from Luthen. Luthen predicted crack downs would shift people who only tolerate or fear the Empire into hating it, and Luthen moves in some of the same circles, as he already is an associate of Mon Mothma and will probably be one for Bail Organa before long, if he's not already.
At 1:17 when he says "And know this", his voice is so full of understanding and total kindness, it gets to me every time.
Nemik deserved the world
"Try" at the end is so important, because it contradicts Yoda's advice to Luke, "Do or do not, there is no try".
I actually think they don't contradict each other, they're both a call to action-they just have different contexts.

All the death and sacrifice in Andor and Rogue One so that a farm boy from Tatooine can make one impossible shot. It's fantastic.
Andor has surpassed all my expectations and recalibrated what I expect from any star wars show or film. An absolute master piece. The bar has been set.

The moment I understood what Nemik stood for, I immediately knew he wouldn’t make it out of the season alive. It still hurt seeing him crushed by the weight of Imperial credits. 😢
@@pbdenizen3008 Yes I felt this way too but I still hoped he would survive. Yet his death marked the tragic events that would follow in the fight against the empire. "There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already.

Freedom is a pure idea.
It occurs spontaneously and without instruction.
Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy.
There are whole armies - battalions - that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause.

And then, remember this:
The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural.
Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks.
Authority is brittle.
Oppression is the mask of fear.

The day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many.
One single thing will break the siege.

to whoever's watching this video and stumbled on this comment, I hope you can take this thing you've seen in this great little star wars show and apply it to the world you're living in right now. today, there are still people in power who want to benefit off systems of oppression, who want to wipe out the rights and safety of all of us, starting from our most marginalized kin. fascism is real, real enough to fight again, and fascists are real enough to punch.
have solidarity for the groups left hurt and dying from acts of terror born of hatred of the different. have anger towards the big men in fancy seats who decide that some lives are worth more than others. have hope that if you reach out and find more of us outraged and impassioned people out there, you can participate in making this world a better place.
Maybe it's not that hard to start. Find something worth fighting for and help in a small way. Idk
Thank you. Solidarity is powerful and seeing someone else articulate my own thoughts is inspiring. We aren't alone in seeing oppression and although we consciously know this, when everyone goes about their day as if nothing is wrong, seeing words like yours are affirming.

Stunning edit. Nemik's manifesto feels very topical right now.
Specially after four years of Trump basically causing most of the shit the Empire's trying in this show.
They're getting closer and closer to their goals, but we don't live in a "fallen world" quite yet, and one might hope that there is still time to avert it without the violent Rebellion that would be needed if they succeed.
and now.....

I will be FREE, even if for an hour."
Andor and Rogue One are such excellent pieces of writing because they capture the heartbreak and pain and effort that it took to get us here, and that it will continue to take to battle oppression.

Nemik´s manifesto with your edit of scenes should be distributed to people in all authoritarian countries as a psychological help. It´s great.
