  • We go camping! First we set up camp at a secret boondocking spot in the Shawnee National Forest and that almost always involves picking up somebody else's trash. 😒 lol Then I show you the best way to build a campfire! It's called the log cabin fire and it is fool proof, trust me. Then it's time to sit down and talk. We give you an update on Danielle's knee situation and talk about me being a musician at this time and how challenging that can be. And then we show you how to make Banjo Joe's Campfire Gumbo! The next day, after coffee, Danielle shows Banjo Joe the right way to cut up a pineapple and he cooks bacon in a cast iron skillet on the campfire for breakfast. Then I play my new version of the old classic Clementine! ✌🏼 / thebanjojoeshow

How familiar are you with the Shawnee? I’m thinking of doing a weekend trip there soon. We are talking IL?
I’m thinking possibly making some type of loop in the lusk wilderness area. Maybe a chunk of the river to river linked up with a few others. I’d be down there in winter though so my only concern would be river crossings.

Yeah. I grew up around the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. Check this out www.rivertorivertrail.net/home/other-snf-info/shawnee-nf-multi-day-hikes/

How rough do you think the river crossing would be on that lusk wilderness map mid to late February? Any ideas on typical weather around that same time frame?

It goes up and down quickly. Google the Lusk Creek water level gauge. Also there are some Facebook groups that are really helpful. Thanks for watching man!
