I wanted to thank you both for putting a smile on my face on this rather dismal day. Last night a beloved dog, Gypsy, was hit by a car and succumbed to her injuries. Gypsy wasn't my dog, but belonged to a friend. When my friend wasn't able to take care of her for a couple years, I added her to my pack. Once my friend got back on her feet, I returned Gypsy to her. So she was very much loved by two families. I held her in my arms as we drove to the emergency vet but it was too late. I have lost many pets over the years, but never this way (being hit by a car). I didn't think I was going to get out of my sadness today until I turned on RUclips and saw you had another episode. It didn't take long for me to be laughing out loud! So thank you for the two hours of happiness today!
I'm so sorry to hear that, Carol! It's been a year (Jan 6th) since we lost our dog and it's been a week of memories. My lost was sudden, but it wasn't injury-based like yours. I know how devastating my loss was but can't imagine being able to navigate through the trauma you described. I'm glad to have been part of of putting a smile on your face, My heart is with you. - Drew
When I was little, I called the fins on my father’s fountain pens “gills” because I knew it had something to do with fish. 😊 The “gills” were the only part of the pen I wasn’t allowed to touch. Then I thought it was because I would hurt the pen. Now I know my daddy didn’t want my little inky finger prints all over the place.
One of my favorite phrases was made by kindergartener when I announced that it was time for lunch. He said with a sigh of relief, “Whew! We made it to cheeseburger!”
My parents are watching the news while I'm watching the Pencast on my phone. They've just asked me what that 2 hr thing of mine is about, and I said, seals and toothbrushes. It's not a phase Mom 😂
Please Don’t Ever stop filming the Pencast, it is soooo very enjoyable and the I also love the longer lengths, lol, don’t you dare shorten it.!! “We are the champions, my friends.!!!” Stay Healthy all.! Ending on a Biscuit.! 😂💕
Having been in manufacturing for a while, I would say the main difference between a nib from a smaller company and a large one will probably be the result or more time spent tuning or shaping the nib. You wouldn't design a manufacturing process to produce small numbers, you would design the most efficient process and tooling to produce in quantity, and a lot of the cost of tooling would be up front. After that, you would only run as many batches as you needed, but the process would be designed the same regardless of how many nibs you intended to make. Most smaller companies buy mass produced nibs and customise them by hand, rather than pay the cost of setting up a manufacturing process.
49:02 The upcoming ”Goulet Fountain Pen Toothbrush” will have an overall smaller head, and shorter bristles, to suit fountain pen use. The bristles will be a bit finer, albeit stiffer, to be able to polish deep into grooves an crevices, or threads. The handle will be from a heat moldable plastic for user customazation of the angle of the handle versus the head.
Santini is a small Italian family business who inherited / bought the nib machinery of a previous Italian company who went out of business. So Santini does create their own nibs. They innovate as well like making nibs from solid white gold or rose gold, not just plated. They have semi-flexible and flexible nibs, they recently introduced size 8 gold nibs. They don't do steel nibs, only gold nibs.
I can just see it now: The Drewlet Pen Toothbrush with a handle big enough to wrap one of your stickers around it. I bet the Barney the Barnacle one would constantly be in back order.
Nothing is better than coming home after a long day at work and seeing a new Pencast episode on RUclips. And seeing it is 2 hours long, even damn better. Thank you for always making my day!
Brian I totally relate to the bass thing. I’m a fan of electronic music and a good set of speakers not only makes the music seem more immersive but brings back good memories for me of going to concerts and such. Enjoy your new setup
The green pen question reminded me that it's Brian who said yellow pens are also not very popular - now I have around 3 dozen yellow pens and I completely blame you guys. Thank you!
1:10:03 My first Goulet Pen purchase included a Noodler’s Konrad in Galapagos Tortoise with an ink window. (It’s out of production in that complete tortoise design) It’s lovely swirly green and I still use it, in spite of the many technical weaknesses of that now historical design.
I've spent the past several hours writing a speech with a Preppy. I didn't expect it to feel very good because I tend to favor thicker, heavier pens because of my hand size. However, after about three hours, my hand has almost zero fatigue! You can add "ergonomic for bigger hands" to the growing list of pro's.
I am so glad to hear that Drew and Shannon had only mild symptoms with COVID-19 and apparently no lasting issues. Hang in there, guys! I'm also happy to hear the Pencast will be a thing for the foreseeable future. I greatly enjoy the Pencast, and I always watch the Entire program, though I may sometimes have to split it up a bit to get it all. Then again, I've watched a couple of them all the way through more than once, just because it reminds me of my old "coffee shop days," when my friends and I would sit around a coffee shop for hours just talking about things. I'm looking forward to many more Pencasts!
Question for a future Pencast: Is there a release date for individual Diamine inks from the Inkvent 2021 collection? Or a guesstimate based on the previous Inkvent Blue 2019 edition? There were so many great inks in that set this year. I know I'm going to deplete lots of those 12ml bottles in no time! Thank you so much, Brian and Drew, for doing these very engaging, inspiring, and humorous pencasts!
Yeah, I liked the 2021 inks, too (don't know about previous years, as I didn't buy them). I thought the Candle Light one (if I've got the name right) was a standout: sort of a bright quinacridone gold. Just lovely. But there was lots else to like, as well.
@@amandajstar hah, I'd let u have my sample along w/ the peach punch and pink ice. Of course I realize the inkvent will have favorites among all different colors :)
@@rds4629 I know what you mean about the peach punch and pink ice -- I got two of the latter by mistake! (They had to send me the Vintage Copper separately.) Still, the colours do 'sing', and I suppose I'm looking at them more as an artist than as someone wanting to write with them.
On the Ultrasonic Cleaning thing: You make it sound like it's some kind of last resort and it's complicated to use and you may or not may need it. For me it's just like some kind of magic. It makes cleaning pens (and a lot of other stuff) sooo much easier and faster. You don't have to soak something for several hours and try to brush things out of tiny openings. I just take the pens I need to clean apart, rinse everything, put it into the ultrasonic cleaner, set the timer to I don't know, 6 minutes or something, take it out, rinse it again and it's clean as it can be. You can add a bit of soap to the water, so the surface tension of the liquid goes down so it reaches into the tiniest of openings, and you're good to go. I bought my ultrasonic device for under 20 € several years ago and it never let me down. I got a very old Montblanc from my dad, I think he inked it up in 1980 and since then left it in the drawer. I tried everything from soaking to brushing to blowing air to whatever but I couldn't get the barnacles off. 9 minutes of ultrasonic cleaning did the job, I didn't even disassemble the nib and feed from the grip section, it just worked. So in my opinion: If you clean out pens on a regular basis, get one of those cheap little gadgets, they make your life easier.
OK, 50 - 100 $ ? I think you're talking about some other level of supersonic cleaning there ^^ My friend is a tattoo artist and he has this huge machine to clean all the needles and grip sections and piercings and stuff. If I wanted to use this every week for cleaning my pens with those several liters of inky water and stuff... Then I get what you are talking about in this episode. I'm talking about 15 - 20 € in investment, I guess about 500 ml capacity and a device that's like 25 x 10 x 10 cm and 300 grams of weight. I can easily carry it around even full of water. The only things I wouldn't put in there are things that stain super easy. Like I have a Lamy Safari in gloss white and it picks up stains like nothing else. So if I clean out a pen that had red ink in it and put the Safari in the bath at the same time it would come out pink, I'm sure.
Another entertaining and informative (and all those other things Brian says) episode, and glad to hear you are on the mend, Drew. I have a suggestion and a question. The suggestion: Why not call the "Lightning Round" "Lightning and Thunder Round" with Drew the lightning and Brian the thunder? The question: What do you do with the inks left in your pens (assuming it is not nominal) when you decide to switch inks? Do you flush it or return it to the bottle?
Wow! What a way to ring in the new year - Snowed in by a blizzard and Omicron! Hope things are getting better, Brian. Hope you and Shannon are recovering fast, Drew. Please do take care, stay safe, the both of you and everyone at GPC. A very Happy New Year to everyone - the good folk at GPC and all y'all Turkey Hammock people. Here's to ending on a biscuit!!
2 things: my pilot Falcon (SF) with the con-40 handles ALL THE SHIMMER!! I'm on love with that nib!! Second follow up question from a past episode...I got caught up over my 'break' 😉...did Brian get a burger diaper for Christmas?? Do you remember the burger diaper?? I think that one is still my favorite 🙂🙃😉
As to the feed/nib question, I was actually meaning to write in about this myself. I bought from you three inexpensive Lamy pens, two Safaris and an Al-star. The Safaris were a 1.1 stub and a fine, and the Al-star was an extra fine. For writing I found the Safari stub to be my favorite, so bought two 1.1 stub nibs from you to switch out the other pens. Now all three pens have stub nibs, but the original stub is still the best, the other Safari (originally fine) is dryer/scratchier, and the Al-star (originally extra fine) is so dry it barely shows the line variation. Obviously in these Lamy pens I cannot remove the nib to compare, but it made me wonder this same thing. And if that kind of feed sophistication goes into pens in the $30 range, I would think the more expensive pens would be even more particular. But I have never heard anything about it, from your channel or any of the others. I would like to learn more about this; maybe you could ask a couple more nib/feed manufacturers?
Thanks guys, for such a fun and interesting Pencast. Am sitting here, stuck with COVID and your show put a big smile back on my face and found it once again, so interesting. Take care to you and all for 2022, and stay safe!
I LOVE the videos you have been doing lately and DEPEND on the pencast to make my week right! Please, please continue them. I love watching you guys! Thank you!
A couple inks that work really well when uncapped: Iroshizuku kon-peki, Edelstein Topaz, Akkerman 11 Treves Turquoise. Sheening inks are often bad at lasting uncapped because they are so saturated, but I've been able to last 10 minutes or more with a wet pen and one of the above inks!
I just swapped a wet factory Jin Hao medium nib for an extra fine flex, and it still writes really wet. The line varies nicely, but it's rather more wet than I usually prefer for my fine nibs. I wanted to use the feed I got for and with the EF nib but it wouldn't fit the factory converter. Oh well, it works well on better paper.
Drew, glad you and your wife are doing better. You guys are doing a great job in keeping the shipments going out expeditiously. I'm sure all of your customers(myself included) understand the times we are going through and the delays going on all around us which includes shipments of our fountain pens and accessories. Question: Will there be other Goulet exclusives happening this year, such as the Sailor Stealth Green Pro Gear? Continue staying safe and keep on with the videos. I have been thoroughly enjoying them. Thank you for all you do!
Have you ever considered having an in-house nib-meister? You could charge like $25 for a tune-and-smooth and $45 for custom grinds. You might void returns on any custom work? I think it would be great so I don’t have to send a pen out for custom work once it initially arrives.
My best friend and I coincidentally both started watching this at the same time because it was at the top of both of our RUclips recommendations for the day. Usually I listen through Spotify and get mad because I know Drew is making an expression I have to see or you both are showing something that cannot be seen on the podcast format. I love listening to you both banter back and forth while I am doing housework or cooking. Thank you for making this show educational, full of fun facts and just amusing. I just got into fountain pens about 6 months ago, but have been admirer of them for years. Your channel is where I go to learn everything I need to know to care, maintain, use and guide my purchases! Thank you!
This episode reminded me of a prior episode where you were talking about a sub box. I think you COULD do one but instead of pens and ink, include pen-adjacent items like stickers, blotter sheets, small notebooks, cleaning supplies like TOOTHBRUSHES, nib boxes, cartridge boxes, pen sleeves, and so forth. PS, I ended on a biscuit....
Duuuudes, your answers are NEVER boring!! Happy new year, so glad you are back. It's always a treat. Drew -omg i feel you on the dad joke. I fell for it too.
I have a cheap ~$30 ultrasonic cleaner that is small and probably much weaker than the industrial ones. I use it to clean vintage nibs units. But also, if I'm cleaning a bunch of pens, I'll clean the nib units first and then throw them all in the ultrasonic cleaner for a few minutes while I flush the ink reservoirs. Then I'll flush through each nib unit another time. What happens is usually even after thoroughly flushing the nibs until the water comes out clear, I'll still see ink swirling in the ultrasonic cleaner once it starts, and I'll flush out a surprising amount of color when I do the final flush. And I've had times where I'll clean a darker color out of a pen (but not use the ultrasonic cleaner) and then fill with a lighter ink and the ink is muddled with little remains of the older ink. I've then cleaned all over again and then stuck in the ultrasonic cleaner (so fully cleaned twice already before going in the ultrasonic cleaner) and I'll still see a good amount of the older darker ink get dislodged. And then when I add the lighter ink to the pen it runs true. I also use an ultrasonic cleaner on my jewelry and my glasses. It's fun and weird watching all the gunk swirl out of the glasses especially. And I've stuck makeup brushes and reusable "cotton" (rubber) swabs in as well for easier and deeper cleaning after the first pass.
I'm also someone who has too many pens inked up. I carry a pentel aquash water brush with me to re-wet my nibs and sometimes re-fill my pen with water and dilute the ink that has evaporated and gunked up the feed and nib. Those brushes are great, they're like the paintbrush version of a fountain pen.
Ending on a biscuit can mean one of two things depending on where you live... A biscuit as we know it in the US or a cookie in the UK.. with your tea. Either is good.
I really liked this pencast and family update. Thank you for all your fountain pen knowledge. Fountain pens were required when we started to learn cursive in school, and your videos are amongst those that have inspired me to start a collection and write more letters. I wish you and your families a happy and healthy 2022 🙏🏾👋🏾
Ended on a biscuit baby! I am a proud turkey hammock citizen and I love me some Pencast! Spookily you actually touched on a subject/ query I was going to toss your way. I spend my winters in southern Arizona, in the desert. When I say that’s it’s DRY down here, I mean like unbuttered toast kinda dry. As a consequence of the dry toast like conditions, when writing for any length of time my pen begins to dry up. I’m going to try the suggestion of a little cup of water, like my pens own little oasis in the desert. I have a couple TWISBI’s 580, a Laban 325, and 3 Sailor 1911s, all of which I have purchased from y’all, save for the Laban. And yes, they all eventually succumb to the arid, for the love of all that is holy someone get me a drink of water, conditions here in the desert. I don’t think it’s that bad, but my pens wanted me to assure you that it absolutely is. For them anyway. Oh an p.s. Drew we absolutely need a Goulet ( or Drewlet lol ) pen toothbrush!
Hello to both of you! Glad to have you back! I enjoyed the bit about the legos. My 3 sons were close in age and the first one started with dublos (legos) for smaller kids . For his first birthday he got a Plateforme on wheels with 4 dublos and 2 “people “. He learned to walk pulling this thing around the house! He will soon be 51 and it is still in great condition! all 3 boys became avid lego builders, up to building motors from scratch. Each one had their own vehicle, planes and helicopters, boats and water stations, the other had cars and motorcycles. They had villages on an 8x4 foot tabletop and spent hours inventing stories in their village. . I recently found 4 boxes of legoes ,big trucks and space station. My grandson was thrilled to get them but i dont think those will stay separate and in their respective boxes! On another note, this might be a silly question, but i would like to understand what does duofold mean? As in parker duofold? Is it just a name or does it indicate something specific about the pen? Thank you for the joy you bring in your videos, during these hard times. Stay safe
The stars at the end of the long side of a house have to do with construction from many many years ago holding the house together. Feed question; does it matter what feed a pen has in relationship to the ink types it can or not handle; Ebonite vs non ebonite. One manufacturer said his ebonite feed don't work well with Platinum Carbon ink. Thank you
Glad you're back! Brian, hope your kids get to go back to school. We were supposed to start tomorrow, but due to Omicron, got pushed back for in person by 2 weeks. 1 more week completely off, then one more week online. I've never done online before, so should be interesting. Same age as you guys, so maybe not exactly "digital native" but we've had a computer since I was a teenager (have seen a hilarious video of some teenagers trying to start and use a PC running Windows 95). Currently contemplating which pen will be my clinic pen (vet tech student, I'm on my 3rd career). Have decided that I need to swap out my purse pen with a Preppy!
Definitely ending on a biscuit. You and your organization are incredible, taking care of each other and taking care of your customers, plus looking out for all the people you come into contact with daily. Happy New Year
Ok, first of all, BASS!!! Yes!! It feels so good when it just vibrates through like every cell in your body lol But also, sorry to hear you were sick on christmas, Drew. We went down one by one over here over the last two weeks. It all started on the 26th of December with my oldest and then the middle child got sick a few days later and the young one a few days after that followed by my husband and lastly me. We got tested and were told we were negative, though. So we don’t know what we had we’re just glad it’s over! On a better note, I have stained my tongue with OS Aldous Huxley before before my nib dried out in church and I wasn’t about to run to get a cup of water or a tissue. So I quickly dabbed it on my tongue only to find a spot on it later. Fun times! At home, I keep a little container with water on my desk, though. I like Rachel’s methodical approach to food. I was definitely more methodical as a child. I have a ton of likes and dislikes based on taste and texture. So I would eat around the plate without mixing and making sure I saved one bite of my favourite part for last so that it was the flavour that lingered when I was done eating. My daughter does something similar now where she won’t mix the noodles with the sauce when we eat spaghetti or gets upset if we put gravy on her mashed potatoes. QUESTION: Do you have a suggestion on how to help my pens have better flow when using a syringe-filled cartridge? I did this to my preppy and then my kakuno and both decided to stop working. I gave it a few days and even left them nib down but they just wouldn’t write so I gave up and cleaned them out.
Thanks for the fun comment, Thalia! So sorry your family had to run the sickness gauntlet, but glad you're all on the other side of it. Regarding the cartridge, try giving it a little squeeze! - Drew
Good dish soap takes care of 95% of the crud on your pens. Dawn Ultra or Palmolive Ultra are work really well. In fact, they use Dawn to clean up the wildlife when there is an oil spill so it should be safe for almost any pen. Washing a sink full of dishes by hand is one of the easiest way to get ink off your hands. I have ammonia in the house but I hate the smell so much, I never use it inside. (Ammonia soaked rags stop the skunks from nesting under my front porch)
Question: I've got a Pilot 912 with Waverly nib on it, which I love. Can that section be unscrewed and used in another (perhaps less staid-looking) Pilot?
I love you guys, your pen casts are something I have been looking forward to, they just make me laugh and the combination of what you talk about is so great. Especially had to laugh about talking to your spouse about stuff you like…this is how it is here with inks and fountain pens, when I get excited about an ink or a pen and start talking and my boyfriend gets cross-eyed and probably hopes I stop before he falls asleep 🤣
46 minutes in and still chuckling over Brian’s love of feeling the music. My husband is the same way. I can hear him coming home long before I see him. In a regular vehicle or in a rig lol. If sitting down, we can feel it in the house as well depending what he is listening to and how loud he has it cranked up!!
I am glad that Drew had a relatively mild case. As a Respiratory Therapist at our local hospital I have seen the full extent of this disease. I hope you continue to recover and have no residual effects. I also want to thank you for your pencasts, they are one of my favourite ways to de-stress and forget about what is happening in my professional life.
Music nibs and feeds! Platinum and Franklin-Cristoph both have custom feeds specifically for their music nibs that have two ink channels, while PIlot and Sailor have what appears to be the same basic structure for their Music nib feeds. Also, the big-3 Japanese makers all make their nibs in-house, and Platinum is a remarkably small company by global standards. As for small batch nibs, Inky Rocks did a video recently about interesting nibs that includes a bunch of small-batch makers of stacked nibs. Those are some radical nibs in the style of Sailor's custom nibs.
So now I not only have to deal with resisting the temptation to buy the pens and inks you talk about - you have a whole new category of „must have“ products (stickers!). And yes, I would absolutely love a Goulet Pens (or Drewlet, for that matter) toothbrush for my maintenance set! You could also add them as an extra „treat“ (instead of the lollipop?) at least for orders of a certain amount. I‘ve started taking notes during the podcast, and what am I using for this one? The Pilot E95S that I finally broke down and bought because Drew raved about it. And what is Drew using during the podcast? His Pilot E95S! It is delightful. Side bar: My mother did not believe it was possible to drink anything (except perhaps hot coffee) without a straw. It was also absolutely out of the question to drink cold beverages without a napkin/paper towel wrapped around the container.
You’re back! Yay!! Glad someone brought up the question of different sized feeds, when I got my Benu it had a harder time starting than my Twsbis and I wondered if bigger nib=bigger feed leading to it taking longer for the ink to reach the tip.
Good to hear Drew and family have made it through Omicron. Best of luck to the entire company on this topic. And that‘s all that can be said; like everyone else, I‘m sick of talking about COVID, but can‘t seem to get off the topic. More delightful: I sent off an order to Goulet Pens yesterday that included 2 3-pen coozies and a coozy bag. I‘m going to try to follow Drew‘s example to at least some degree and reduce the number of pens that are currently inked. Three pens is illusory - not gonna happen. MAYBE I can keep it to 6 (I think 10 is much more likely). Wish me luck! Thanks for all the videos!
The sickness has hit my area pretty hard my mom caught it from a patient but thankfully its mostly just flu like for her. It's always a pleasure hearing from you guys. Keep up the pen cast I love it. Now back to eagerly waiting for my pen box.
Look...I get the Turkey hammock was a must... I'm still waiting for my "molten butter" sticker... I'll pay for that one. Feel like Brian's genius is being wasted there totally I ignoring that one... Another great pen cast! Good to have you back! No more missed weeks!
PS... It has to be genuine Goulet sticker...I could make my own "molten butter" sticker sure... But I'm not taking the risk of getting sued by Brain for stealing his butter. Only authentic GPC sticker wares will do!
@@Gouletpens no no thank you... I'm working on next year's holiday dinners... I'm thinking turkey ALA hammock for Thanksgiving and emerald of chicken for Christmas and again for St Patty's day... Both served with molten butter and a bread helmet on the side. 😇😁
With all of the nonsense in the world it's nice to come back every week to a show that disregards all of that. Seriously the Pencast is pure fun as far as I care. Never stop, guys.
Wow....!! I am a Turkey Hammock person, the detailed answer on the pen feed was quite impressive... I really enjoyed this, it is so cool you guys grew up together and share this campy camaraderie with us all...it is indeed welcome....write on..!!!
Thank you so much for bringing joy to our lives! Could you do a review of the Lamy 2000 different nib sizes? I'm not sure if I want to get a medium, broad or double broad? I'm more a broad person, I like my pens to flow ink like there's no tomorrow 😁
Hi guys. Love what you're doing! Thank you. I have a question. I just discovered that my Sailor pen which I believed to have a medium nib, actually has a "Hard Broad" nib. That made me wonder, if one of the greatest appeals of a gold nib is the springiness to it, then wouldn't it be kind of a waste to intentionally produce a hard/stiff nib? Don't get me wrong, it writes phenomenally! Thanks in advance.
When I was a kid, Lego sets were not designed to make one big thing. Every one I remember was much more general - a city, a farm, etc. And they all encouraged combining sets to make bigger things
YOU'RE BAAAAACK! Thank god. I've missed you guys. Happy New Year! Had to say that before I start watching/listening. While you were out, every time I'm on YT the pencast episodes are what's on. 😆Sorry, not sorry. OK, I'm gonna go watch now.
Question for future pencast: Do you have any recommendations on books regarding modern calligraphy? What general recommendations or advices do you have for newbies to the field of calligraphy? Happy New Year and best wishes from Germany!! 😀
Now watching for the "Drew-let Cleaning Brush" Also, guys, I want more information on the Pilot Custom Heritage SE. Tell me everything! Brian, take it old school with the music. Check out Dreamland by Robert Miles and Mezzanine by Massive Attack.
Hi pen friends, I'm the James who asked about best pens for shimmering inks. Thanks for answering my question! I was inspired to ask after I tried to use Diamine Magical Forest in my TWSBI 580 with a 1.1 stub. I got zero ink flow. None. I figured the shimmer particles were clogging the feed. I love TWSBI pens and I love shimmering ink, so I may have to try again. Also, I love demonstrator pens. I don't care if you see ink or whatever. I always want to see the internals. Thanks again for taking my question and for being so entertaining every week!
BTW, I use an ultrasonic cleaner at work on a daily basis. It’s a miracle worker on many pens. Some vintage materials I wouldn’t try but Brain just taught me a lot about how they work. The info guru.
Just wanted to make a comment about bladders as ink feeders. Most of my parents’ and grandparents’ fountain pens were bladder feeders. The old rubber bladders nearly always hardened and split, usually at the point where the lever pushed against the bladder. With modern materials, bladders could certainly be made much more durable.
That was very interesting. For what it’s worth I work in the liquor industry in Massachusetts, I don’t think any field is immune from all the craziness. Happy New Year!
"Angel" by Massive Attack is one of my reference bass tracks when I'm testing out a new pair of headphones. For hip hop, "They Want Efx" by Das Efx. Also "Subenstein (My Sub IV) by Big K.R.I.T. It's literally a song about how the bass is so powerful his sub came alive. Hence the title.
Lol re: kid straws. I almost spit my coffee out. It’s so true, and clearly universal. My three kids do the same exact thing. Curse the crazy straws!! As well as the “hot chocolate”. They hear that from a mile away and now, they heard you, so they are begging for hot chocolate. Right now. Whisper those words, Brian. Whisper.
Brian being a bass head is something I never expected. As someone that had 3 twelve inch subwoofers in the trunk of a Ford Fusion in high school, I have also never been able to find a way to explain why I love having my teeth chatter to the music. It’s just one of those things you’ll only get if you’re into it. As far as song recommendations, if you really want to feel your hair follicles falling out, I love “I’m Boosed” by Kembe X, and “Trunk Muzik” by Yelawolf.
You guys ended on a dongle today, and I'd call that a win. A possible Q&A offering: I'd love to know the relative popularity of various nib sizes. Asking because I prefer broad and stub nibs, and sometimes, they're like Unobtainium. While I was watching, I decided I needed to try a Lamy Safari with a broad nib, and I had to order the nib separately. Thanks for another fun and informative Pencast!
I am so very glad you guys are back! I missed you. Anyway, I have replaced Conklin flex nibs with EF Goulet nibs...like 3 or 4 times. I have never seen an issue in ink flow. I think your house pipe thing works here. The pen nib draws what it needs, and if the channel is properly sized, the ink will flow! Yes, there is a physics problem here.
- Drew
Aw man! I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences Carol. 😭And honstly, thank heavens for Brian and Drew!
So very sorry, Carol!! Big hugs and many warm memories to you and Gypsy’s families. ♥️
I am so sorry to hear about Gypsy! She sounds like a true friend. I'm glad Drew and Brian were able to lift your mood at least for a while.
When I was little, I called the fins on my father’s fountain pens “gills” because I knew it had something to do with fish. 😊
The “gills” were the only part of the pen I wasn’t allowed to touch.
Super important stuff, Mom! Lol - Drew
Please Don’t Ever stop filming the Pencast, it is soooo very enjoyable and the I also love the longer lengths, lol, don’t you dare shorten it.!! “We are the champions, my friends.!!!” Stay Healthy all.! Ending on a Biscuit.! 😂💕
Thanks a bunch, Donna! - Drew
“Seals can do whatever they want" or “Freedom seals”, both need to appear on Goulet merch !! Happy New Year !
I've got my money ready!
I absolutely agree 👍
I try
15 minutes into question 1 ... "for the pen user, it doesn't really matter!" I love the nerdiness of this show.
There are these things called "pipe cleaners". They fit well in twisty straws.
Hahaha! You'e crazy and we love it! Thanks for watching, Kristen! - Drew
That's delightful to hear! Thank you! - Drew
On the Ultrasonic Cleaning thing:
You make it sound like it's some kind of last resort and it's complicated to use and you may or not may need it.
So in my opinion:
If you clean out pens on a regular basis, get one of those cheap little gadgets, they make your life easier.
The best colB ever- Wooden toothbrush made by Brian and sold be Drew-lay. Love it!!!👍🏽
2022 Goal: End on a biscuit. Just like this Pencast! 🙂
Happy New Year. Always enjoy you two and your shenanigans. Great opening and then you start the show
Thanks for joining us, Edward! Happy New Year! - Drew
Lol thank you for the kindness and humor! Happy New Year! - Drew
My SF Falcon works great with shimmer. I am constantly surprised how well it works, and it might be my favourite with that kind of ink.
@@nullnullsjo agreed! Its a great writer over all!
If the pencast get shorter we riot!! We need our pencast!!!
Poor Drew’s reaction to Brian‘s dad joke was awesome. Impeccable delivery, Brian. I had to rewatch it a couple times 😂
Brian can put out a signature blue toothbrush, and Drew can put out a signature brown brush. Carpe the diem, guys!
Sell it as a 2-pack!
2-Pack! Goulet brush can be for your teeth. Use it as the soft pen brush after three months of daily brushing!!
@@wompus_king, and when it's outlived its usefulness cleaning a pen, you can use it to clean your pistol.
I LOVE the videos you have been doing lately and DEPEND on the pencast to make my week right! Please, please continue them. I love watching you guys! Thank you!
Well what a fantastic show once again guys! Thanks for coming back, its a whole lot of fun! A whole lot of ‘winging it’.
So glad you’re back safe and sound. I’ve missed my Friday fix of pens and random chat. Thank you and Happy New Year 😻
A couple inks that work really well when uncapped: Iroshizuku kon-peki, Edelstein Topaz, Akkerman 11 Treves Turquoise.
There will definitely be more Goulet exclusive pens in 2022! - Dew
Wonderful as every, thank you gentlemen.
Thanks for answering my question regarding Brian's music and sound system! You guys are the best, I'm glad you are back and healthy!
Duuuudes, your answers are NEVER boring!!
Happy new year, so glad you are back. It's always a treat.
Drew -omg i feel you on the dad joke. I fell for it too.
Thanks so much for all the the support last year! Happy 2022! - Drew
Thanks, Brian & Drew, for the thorough coverage of my question about feed channel widths!
Happy and healthy 2022 to you as well! - Drew
This is such an amazing comment! You might want to try Private Reserve's Infinity Ink! - Drew
Stay safe
Thank you, Ann-Ingrid! Regarding the DuoFold though, I have no idea! I'll see what I can find! - Drew
Thank you
Happy new year guys, i wish brian a lots of trees to cut and to drew a lot of 80s stuff
Thank you, my friend! Happy New Year! - Drew
Happy New Year
Thank you so very much for that kindness, Edward! Happy New Year to you as well! - Drew
Ok, first of all, BASS!!! Yes!! It feels so good when it just vibrates through like every cell in your body lol
But also, sorry to hear you were sick on christmas, Drew.
- Drew
@@Gouletpens I did try squeezing it and it still didn’t make a difference, unfortunately. Thanks, though!
Love the Pencasts; please don't stop making them.
Thanks for watching - and thank you for the kind words! - Drew
Just got home to see you’ve posted a new video AND my very first Goulet Pen order got delivered! Life is good (: thanks for all that you do!
Thanks for shopping with us, Sarah! We really do appreciate it! - Drew
@@Gouletpens Also, I’d buy a Goulet toothbrush in case we’re taking votes! And one for my mom, my husband, my dog even…let’s make it happen!
Thanks for doing what you do, Lawrence! I'm proud to be a part of any tiny bit of respite for you. You deserve it! - Drew
This turkey hammock person ended on a biscuit! Lol 😂
The look on Drew's face when Brian snuck on that limbo joke was priceless!
AWFUL - Drew
Laughed so hard at the limbo debacle 😂 😂😂😂
Thank you so much, Michael! - Drew

Personally, I love the Medium! - Drew
@@Gouletpens I'm also leaning more towards the medium, but I have to wait until stores are allowed to open again because we are in lockdown here =(
Great question, Tom! Brian gets into that a bit in this video: ruclips.net/video/Sir5qByNi2s/видео.html
@@Gouletpens thank you, that hasn't answered my question, but I like my Sailor nib even more now :)
When I was a kid, Lego sets were not designed to make one big thing. Every one I remember was much more general - a city, a farm, etc. And they all encouraged combining sets to make bigger things
I would say Pilot, Sailor and Platinum are one of the best examples of great in house nibs

Thanks for the question, James! Just do your best to keep the pen agitated and you should be okay if you're writing often. Have fun! - Drew
BTW, I use an ultrasonic cleaner at work on a daily basis. It’s a miracle worker on many pens. Some vintage materials I wouldn’t try but Brain just taught me a lot about how they work. The info guru.
Most useful for those clear sections that you can’t remove the nib, like you guys hate.
Happy new year Gents. Love the show.
Master P - “Make em say ugh” classic 90’s kid bass track!
Question for Drew, what is the bag that you are using ? It seemed to also match the notebook cover (1:12:48 time stamp)
It's a Rickshaw Bagworks Cosmo laptop bag! I love it! - Drew
@@Gouletpens Welp... another bag to add to my list of bags to acquire, thank you for replying Drew ^^
Whisper.
AHHHHHH You made a sticker out of my joke!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Your joke was INSPIRATIONAL
Thank you! I should've given you a shout out! - Drew
I’m with Brian on this on. Found some old cds and a player with decent headphones. Music sound design was so different then. Love it.
Last night the Raiders ended on a biscuit. I'm going to use that quote as often as possible. When does the biscuit sticker come out?
Enjoy all your videos. Very helpful.😊❤️
