      Commercial is the best, we are going to be framing a house out of steel stud next week so that could be really cool!

    As a apprentice that I am how do you know when to put the drywall sheet up right in stead of laying them down and what's the benefit?

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 2 года назад

      Great question. So it's actually easy to tell. You lay down sheets on wood framing and stand up on steel stud. The only time you ever lay sheets down on steel stud is exterior board or on walls the studs don't land properly on 16" or 24" center. Plumbing walls or walls with mechanical are examples of walls that sometimes do not land. You have to stand up your sheets on steel stud to achieve your proper fire rating.

    Shouldnt your wood backing be fire treated if its commercial? Being double layered tells me its a 2hr fire rated demising wall

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 2 года назад

      Good question, the fire rating comes from the drywall and the framing doesn't count in our calculations. It's important to have a good seal using fire caulking and taping all your joints. You don't need to finish tape just a fire tape is required.

    Seriously a T square to draw things out! We hang 100 tops a day. I'm guessing they ate doing about 10ish

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 2 года назад

      We can do a lot more than 10 lol depending on difficulty and size. You are either old or started as a residential guy. I'd put my money were my mouth is and race you any day. We do a lot of the taping as well so we do nice drywall not hack drywall. This wall here was 48 tops (double layer) and I did it all myself in just over a half day.

    Tops should not be tight as possible, you need room for deflection or the sheets will crack in the not to distant future

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 3 года назад

      100% yes you need to count for deflection. This is not the job to demonstrate the expansion joint because the celling is blanket insulation but here we always give 3/4". Most of the time you want your cut outs to be as tight as possible for the taper but some jobs require fire caulking so you need to consult the specs and find out what gap it needed, usually 1/4-3/8" Never make a top tight to the ceiling unless the expansion joint is in a lower location.

    Unless you just did that for the first layer and the second layer will look nicer. In that case your cool

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 6 месяцев назад

      If its double layer we stagger the joints both vert and horizontal. This is how the system is specified. You guys who think staggering the joints have been taught wrong and are doing a lot of extra work for no reason at all. If you do lay downs on these walls it is against fire code. Steel Stud bro, this isn't wood.

    That’s slip track you need to have a expansion joint at that point sorry to criticize but it’s the right way to get proper wall assembly

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 7 месяцев назад

      Everything is floating above the track, nothing is attached to the beam. The backing is just to keep the bevels tight and doesn't interfere with expansion or contraction. I'm also keeping the screws in the studs 3" below the track. These are simple warehouse / shop bays.

    A rasp for tops....WHY?????

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 2 года назад

      Hit your cut joints with a quick rasp and your piece will fit nice, a bump can knock all your measurements off very easily.

    This sucks. Why is the wall hung that way with all the joints lining up. Don’t listen to this noob if he talks about hanging stand ups or lay downs. Top out is decent tho

    • @ConstructionKronies
      @ConstructionKronies 6 месяцев назад

      This is commercial drywall, you cannot do lay down, it is against fire rating and if your stagger your joints you will have to fur out the compound like 6' this is how it is done son. Don't worry dad will teach ya!
