- We know that an endoscopy can be stressful for you and your child. That's why we created the video "Your Child's Endoscopy: What to Expect." We hope this video will answer your questions, alleviate your fears, and help you plan for your child’s endoscopy.
I was 7 when I got my surgery done (many years ago) I was tired after the procedure. I was put on anestishia then when I woke up I kept falling asleep on the bed after my whole family was telling me to get up. Thank God I got a wheel chair ride because I fell asleep on the last wheel chair ride too.

I wish they had a program like that 50 years ago. I was just phobic of hospitals and knew what the letter "H" was before I started kindergarten. My parents couldn't drive on any streets where a hospital was located. Keep up the fantastic work.

Today I found out I have to get one done, and I freaked out. Plus it was the day before school. I'm super nervous, but this video helped a lot. I'm just nervous about the IV and the a tube going down my throat. Anyone else?? I just pray to god I don't have celiac disease

I'll tell you my experience. I asked for numbing cream,they gave me the IV and to be honest it just hurt a little,then I went to the operation room and they gave me the sedation,they only thing I remember is the tube getting shoved down my throat and I puked a little and I felt like I couldn't breathe,wasn't a very pleasant experience for me. I hope you don't suffer like I did

I had a endoscopy when i was 10 and i was surprisingly not scared until the last second. But if course i had Anastasia so i fell asleep. I woke up and felt fine. But to those who will get an endescopy, dont b scared because you’ll wake up and u are in an hospital. U r safe. ❤️

I had one of these done... twice, and after they did it, my throat felt real funny. Most of the time, you are awake for these things, especially if you're an adult.
I’ve had several (and will have an endoscopic ultrasound in 2.5 weeks) and I was under MAC each time. With MAC (monitored anesthesia care), you’re asleep but still breathing on your own
what if you’re 16? i’m around 130ish and 5’5 if that helps. a few years ago i watched a story time where this girl was awake the whole time and she was trying to scream and tell them but she couldn’t move at all and she had to feel everything the whole 8 hour surgery. and i know that’s not always common but i’m terrified i’m not actually gonna be asleep or i’m gonna be able to feel a lot of pain. i’ve had laughing gas when i was around 5-6 and then some liquid that put me to sleep around 6-7 so i’m not sure if it also helps i’ve never had much or maybe any anesthesia

I had my endoscopy yesterday! It’s totally fine- nothing is sore not even the needles... I had my sleep medicine through A needle like in my arm which felt weird but was fine and soon as I fell asleep!

Ailie Anderson thank you so much. Actually I went to the doctor today and I told him that I am belching and he was like the only way to see what you have in you stimatch is to make a gastroscopy... and it costs $400.. and I am very scared.. but he told me that I will feel nothing and it will take about 3 minutes... but still I cannot relax after my appointment..😢

The sore throat doesn’t happen to everyone but it’s completely normal
did you get to pick? i’m terrified of needles and getting this done😭i’m only 16 but needles scare me sm to where they have to give me a few minutes to try to breathe before i get my blood taken, shots or an iv😭
I have no idea why I’m watching this lol. I got one when I was 12 and might have to get another one soon. I’m almost 19. It’s not that bad, just the vibe of hospitals is scary in general... I was definitely not smiling going on the operating room lol

I had an endoscopy, but they cut one of my organs and I started bleeding on the inside, and I got a hematoma. I had to stay in the hospital for 3 weeks and I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything. I was 9. It was awful. But it doesn’t happen to a lot of people, and my doctor was just being lazy.

Well I finished and there was nothing to worry about they put a numbing spray into my throat that was a bit bad then they put a tube in my nose to breathe from and then gave me a circle shaped thing for my mouth. I could hear my heart rate decreasing then I just realized it had finished lol
There is nothing to be worried about if you are taking anesthesia.

I had an endoscopy today and when i was wheeled back to my ward afterward four players from a national rugby team came in and surprised me! They gave me free tickets to their game. I wasn't even nervous before i went in. I was actually really excited

So idk if someone who needs it will see it but for these there’s nothing to worry about procedure wise. Soar throats often happen, I know that some hospitals give iVs with the mask or just and iV. For a general endo this is correct

I feel like as a parent I should have the option to stay for any non sterile procedures. My child has had several and I hate not being there. She's very traumatized too 😓

I got to rub that stuff on the mask before. It’s actually scented chapstick! They have lots of fun flavors to choose from.

I got an upper endoscopy, I was so nervous, the doctors were gonna but a needle in my arm but I insisted they put me to sleep, bc I would’ve flipped out 😅 so they did and I don’t remember anything other than falling asleep, after my throat hurt a bit and I was gassy. My digestive system was healthy!

It’s where they insert a camera into your stomach to see what’s going on inside you, they can also use it to check your intestines and sometimes the camera can be used for minor surgery!

It might be for various reasons but mainly because they need to see your stomach and they do that by putting you to sleep and putting a camera through your mouth it looks kinda nasty but your asleep so you won’t feel a thing 😷

I had a surgery to get some weird thing in my mouth. I had a surgery to get it on when I was younger, because of a cavity. After getting that thing out, well... it was an easy surgery. I had taken some medicine that made my legs shaky and I couldn’t walk until after my surgery. It was still a bit shaky so I got to ride in a wheelchair and my mom, who was with me, pushed it to her car, and when I was walking down the wooden steps to the back door of my house, I kind of stumbled.
Surgery Terminology my Family Made Up:
Surgery gown: doctor’s clothes
Versed: loopy juice, Kool-Aid when I was little (made me afraid to drink real Kool-Aid for a while😂)
Anesthesia: doctor sleep
I had endoscopy when I was about 8 years old I'm now 10 years old and don't worry cuz as long as you're not afraid everything will be okay it's okay to be a little scared but everything will go fine just listen to the doctors and I'll tell you what to do and how to use the mask if you don't know how cuz I didn't really know how and after you wake up it's a little strange at first because like you feel really really too tired and you feel really sore but my mom took me out to eat and my dad whenever I got done

I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy, it doesn’t hurt at all, when I woke up I asked “when are they gonna do it?” also the anesthesia knocked me out right away. When I was able to eat my tongue was tingling alittle, but that’s it.

They never said anything about you having to not eat for a long time and the meds you take!
I’ve had 2 procedures and it was awful
The first time as a child I got some sleep but still felt awful in the morning since I had nothing in my stomach and could not eat or drink
The second time I had no sleep and couldn’t take my night time pills before going
Also, when I got back home I didn’t eat right away and waited a while
Because of that, at 2 am I started feeling extremely nauseous, i had to eat to feel better which was awful because that’s not what you want to do when you feel nauseous
They should have at least explained the process before going and how you won’t be all smiley when you get there

I have had an endoscopy before. I thought it was really scary, but it’s not. They put you to sleep and boom you wake up.

I had a leg surgery because I had a toe walking problem...
I actually had to get one done but for a serious reason, when i was 3 i would only eat cheese and drink milk, because of that it clogs my intestines and i can’t poop, but i’m all good now, except i had to stay in the hospital for 3 days and had a tube in my nose to my throat and they had to make me drink water from it so 😅 oof memories are flooding back, i don’t remember having to sleep with a sleep mask thing tho, i slept just fine somehow ;-;

I had 3 done 1 in 2018 I was 21 found out I was gluten free than 2 last year I was 24 and my esphous was stretched than a colonoscopy at 22 found out I was dairy free and had ibs. It wasn’t bad it’s crazy how I dream with one sleep doctor but not the other.

thats what you went through? mine was a lot more difficult. i was put on laughing gas to put my iv in, (which was not fun at all, i dont wanna talk about it. lets just say that everything was graphic...) then i was put to sleep. i woke up in the recovery room and i was LOUD. all of it is to hard to explain, if i told the whole story it would take an hour for you to read it.

The lip balm does not help at all I actually stopped the gas and asked for the I.V. because the gas smelt so bad. I have had a lot of surgeries and I would rather have a needle than wake up with a head ache (my opinion)
