In our first Highways of Horror episode, we heard accounts from those who drive for a living and happened to witness something unnatural whilst out on the road. In this second part, we hear from those who were merely travelling between two locations and had a terrifying encounter with something strange and dark.

as Indonesian, i admitted never drive alone at midnight when crossing cities through forests. Not only its scary, but also many criminals who's ready hijacked your transport.
Very wise.
Here is the Sahara desert it's not advisable to stop and pickup people you never know
I even heard stories of some taxi driver taking an oldman, the oldman asked him to stop in the middle pf nowhere, the driver was confused and thought the oldman must be a nomad and started looking around to see a tent or something, but didn't see anything and thought the oldman is senile or don't see well so wanted to confirm of he really wanted to stop here, but the oldman disappeared while the driver was looking around, but that place was flat and it was impossible for him to disappear or run away in. A short time
The taxi driver became spooked and left in a hurry
Nevermind other stores about arms trafficking and hijacking with drivers being killed and dropped in the middle of the desert

lesson from the Indonesian story, NEVER stop in the middle of nowhere to help someone alone in distress at night especially if you are alone. Kuntilanak is pretty common ghost here and mostly, if not all, not a calm one to meet. They either bully/scare you, or latches on you.

Many decades ago I was in my 20s and home on leave. When I left Amarillo at night to drive back to Omaha I came upon a Cadillac parked in the right lane of the hi-way with both doors open. I have no explanation for the feeling of terror that came over me. I stopped 25-30 yards behind the car. The dome light was on, the engine was running and the headlights were on. I ran several scenarios of what could be going on, but the sense of terror ruled out all reasonable explanations. I drove into the left lane and slowly approached looking into the darkness for some clue or somebody. I was actually shaking when I drove past the Cadillac. I could clearly see the car was empty. I felt I should stop to see if somebody needed help, but I found myself accelerating away as fast as I could. I don't know to this day what that was all about, but I don't believe I have ever been as frightened in my life of anything as I was of that empty car. It has been almost 50 years since that happened and I still think about it.
Mysterious non-events (nobody got hurt) are waaaay better than horrifying events. I am very happy not to know what might have happened on at least one occasion.
One of the most terrifying dreams I ever had was of some sort of mangy wig / big ball of cotton wool being thrown at me from behind the sofa. But then again that was a dream, all sorts of wierd stuff could go on with your body chemistry to make you scared of something silly.
More recently I had a semi-waking dream of a human-sized stick figure in my room. I went back to proper sleep and dreamed of reporting it to paranormal investigators.
hello to all from Russia, from Siberia, the city of Omsk! I am writing to you through a translator, I do not know English. when my family and I went to my grandmother in the Tomsk region, we saw a car on a gravel country road, it was standing on the side of the road. the car was like from the 90s, dark red. there was not a soul around. and therefore, this car caused us all horror! my dad immediately stepped on the gas, and our minibus drove fast. then we sat quietly for a while. By the way, it was summer, in the evening, it was twilight.
Quite possibly it was someone trying to concern you enough to pull over, whereupon they would have robbed you or something worse.
@@EphemeralProductions It was a cadillac, some 50 years ago, when cadillacs were rich people's car. its like someone with a top mercedes trying to rob you. Doesnt make sense.
What a tragic, terrifying last story. One of the best I've heard.
Lived just outside of Newport for years. Those roads are terrifying, so many ghosts/ufo sightings, not helped by the stretch of road between Newport and MArket Drayton being a hotspot for deadly vehicle accidents.
Rich, the narrator, grew up in Great Bolas and has lived in and around that area for pretty much his whole life.
@@BedtimeStoriesChannel I lived in Childs Ercall. There are a few interesting legends in that village like a mermaid, the devil's chair and many UFOS and ghosts, but you could probably do an entire series on Shropshire alone. Like the Famous Cosford UFO
In contrast to the current scientific model of the universe, we don't exist in a gravitational universe but an electromagnetic universe. There are four states of matter; gas, liquid, solid and plasma. That light in the sky was a typical plasma ball which is known to move quite easily, flicker on and off and affect electrical equipment like street lights. Many of the ufos that people witness are actually plasma balls because they can change color and break off into smaller ones.
Apparently, Newport is one of the most haunted places in the UK with many sightings of phenomena of all kinds.
@@borleyboo5613 I can see that being the case. Its a really creepy place and the A41 from Cosford to Market Drayton is just weird. The forest between where Newport lies is probably the worst. I spotted a few weird things around there

I-70 is very much a highway of sorrows. I was pulled over after a night of driving in order to get some rest. Not 5 minutes later I heard what could only be described as screams of panic and fear. always be wary when your pets stare at nothing and seem agitated or scared. They can see things you cant, if your pets act that way, you are not alone.
I’m going to email BTS a recount of an “encounter” I had back in high school which started with my dog growling at my bedroom window.
It’s unsettling how our pets can detect things we cannot.
For sure! We tend to forget the big reason we domesticated predators like dogs and cats is because they are far more sensitive to certain things than we ever can hope to be. Sounds literally beyond our ears to process may be as loud as marching bands to them. I always give my animal companions my attention when they are giving something out there their attention, because odds are that there is something there to note, even if I am probably much more dangerous to it than it is to me.
@Nah mate that's why those things on the road in the middle are called "cats eyes" (not literally kids). That flash they give off of is basically night vision our night vision is sht
@Nah mate when their attention is not on you as if it was you.
True, there is also the opposite.
When people notice something but animals dont react at all.
Happened about 25 years ago to me, we( me, my mom and a few others + about 5 dogs) were in our summer cottage in the middle of nowhere in lapland when I heard footsteps from just outside the door, they seemed to go on for about 30secs and then suddenly stopped. I asked if the others had heard em and they said yes, the dogs however did not react to these footsteps at all. In comparison when one of the local fellas came for a visit the dogs started barking as soon as they heard his steps and when we explained to him about those odd footsteps he just laughed and said that stuff like that happen around the area.

Origionally from England, when i was 13yrs old my parents & i went to Australia as my dads company were opening offices there which he was to set up in
Sydney, NSW.
After about a year i found a penfriend from way up in Queensland & she was Aborigional.
After corresponding for quite a while, she invited me up to stay with her & her family during the long school summer holidays.
After speaking with her parents my mum & dad let me go to stay & to see that part of the country my parents drove me up there
My penfriend, called Jassy & I had a great time & she took me to see the Elders of her town
They told us some great stories of myth & legend but also things that haunt the Outback.
These stories were really scary &
We were told never to be out at dark outside the town, ever as there were entities that would trick us into thinking they were from my friends family & lure us out there but we'd be wrong & we would never be seen again.
They told of drivers on roads thereabouts & at night who came across some terrible things
Subhuman things, like man type Dingo's or as we'd term today as Dogmen.
These creatures would tear someone limb from limb & eat them.
Also the evil Kangaroo devil trapping anyone out alone during the night time.
Then there were things that had been around since before the Aboriginies lived on the land
To me they sounded like Goblins
About 4ft tall but squat, hairy & very ugly & they were strong & killed livestock & people with their bare hands.
The elders also described things from swampy areas like dinosaurs, An other creature called the Bunyip & tall wraith like things that took away a persons mind so that they walked about like a zombie until they killed themselves or walked out into the Bush & were never found
There is a wealth of Aborigional myth & legend but of the things i heard from the Elders that were extremely unsettling & scary & had happened to people from their town over the years.
Thank you Bedtime Stories i love your channel

I never miss an episode. This one was terrifying. Especially since I'm from New Mexico and I have seen some wild things. You've really outdone yourselves with this one.
Really? Care to share one story?
I’m from New Mexico too, and there are many stories of shape shifters on the Indian reservations among other frighteningly real stories of different types of cryptids and such
I live near Durango Colorado and used to haul cars down to oil fields in NM and Texas. Seen some really creepy things at night. Weirdest was in the middle of nowhere at 3am in New Mexico and someone standing on the side of the hwy wearing what appeared to be a bee keepers suit. They were staring off into the distance and as I passed, turned to look at me. I didn't know what to make of it. No reason for them to be there. Also, in Colorado I watched a horse run alone the side of the highway and then cross in front of me. It was so strange though because it didn't look real. It was like I was watching something out of a movie. I could see every muscle rippling on the horse and seemed like it was running too fast to be real. Strangely majestic looking is the best way I can describe it. It still gives me chills thinking about it. This happened on ute tribal land in southwest Colorado, also late at night. I'm kind of curious if anyone else has seen something like this with the horse thing. Also, would it be normal for a horse to move like this at night? By itself? With nothing chasing it? I'm getting creeped out now lol
@@joeg5414 sounds like a spirit animal, tied to natives.
@@joeg5414 My dad actually has a similar story from around the time he and my mom first got married. They were driving over Cedar Mountain (37.59304877316277, -112.89508706392505) in southern Utah and my mom was asleep. It was late at night, past midnight, and my dad saw something out of the corner of his eye that was a horse shape and white and slightly glowy in the moonlight (but it was a full moon so it could have just been reflecting the moonlight and not actually glowing). Since that area has a lot of turns and a lot of deer he didn't dare take his eyes off the road long enough to actually get a good look at it. He felt like it was a protector spirit of some kind but it did spook him a bit because it stayed with them for whole mile despite him being a chronic speeder and those roads having no shoulder with the forest and hills right up against the asphalt. My mom teases him about seeing a unicorn.
At nearly the exact same spot on that road I saw a shadow person materialize in front of the car just after midnight while on a trip with them, nobody else saw it and there was no impact.
Loved all these stories especially the Australian one. I’m living in central Australia in a tiny community 5 hours or so south of Alice Springs. I can safely say there is a lot of beauty here but there is also an incredibly old and almost wise knowing feeling to the land, the outback is definitely a hotspot for the paranormal and spiritual. I’d love to hear more Australian Outback stories on this channel, they always have a certain eeriness to them.
Do you have any idea of what fits the description of the thing Lewis saw?
@@DinnerForkTongue my guess is as good as any. The locals speak of dream time creatures “mammu” or “monsters/creatures”
They wouldn’t tell us a whole lot due to most of their culture being sacred. It could have been one of these dream time creatures. Who knows it could have been simply a dead and rotting Goanna mistaken for a monster by a tired mind after hours behind the wheel.
@@DinnerForkTonguesounds like a roo to me although you're never going to find an explanation that fits perfectly in paranormal stories because the imagination likes to twist the mundane into the monstrous. But if a cop can turn a tailess iguana into human sized frogman than this guy could've turned a big Gray roo into a weird humanoid monster.
It's hard to say which encounter is the most frightening. I'd lean toward the third incident. Imagine your car sputtering out as that vampire thing's leering at you!
Curiosity killed the cat. That first story when the ghost started chasing, nope. That's a nope for me.
Niloc, what would you do if you're stucked in a parallel dimension after you die.
A parallel dimension that has access to a part of a road in our dimension.

Great stories, artwork and narration, as always.
I know what it is like to walk down a dark road to get home. I remember leaving a party because I couldn’t get a ride home. My journey that night took me from one end of town to the outskirts of town where I lived. I was tired but I kept moving. I walked along a highway and into a heavy fog bank. It was so thick I could barely see a few feet in front of me. There were trucks moving at high speed and passing within a few feet from where I was walking on my left side. On my right side, I could here the sounds of bull frogs and other creatures in the woods. The sound was almost deafening. I kept walking. I happened to look up to the sky and noticed a single star. The fog slowly cleared up and I made it home safely.
My family moved to Wales when I was a teen and I had numerous treks down the very dark lanes alone to visit friends or get the bus up on the main road a couple of miles from the house, we lived in a tiny hamlet in the middle of nowhere and set into the bottom of a valley. Many a night I got spooked, the banks were so high with trees at the top so it really was black. There were rumours in that area too, of wildcats and even a Wolverine type thing. Luckily I wasn’t eaten at any point, lol, but between the lanes in rural England and Wales that I’ve found myself on in the dark, I can definitely get why it would be unnerving… let alone our plethora of paranormal spookiness

From horizon to horizon..... nothing. Odd. Then realised..... there was nothing on the Northbound carriageway either. Not a single car. It started to feel really REALLY weird. Then realised there was nothing on the overpasses either (this was not SO unusual) this went on for mile after mile, minute after minute until I started to become a little disconcerted. Usually the distance between junctions is no more than 20 minutes, but I felt like it took twice that before the next junction was signposted, the road just seemed to roll on, strangely empty into the infinite. As soon as the sign for an impending junction came round, the skies quickly darkened and it started raining like hell. Only then, seemingly inbetween swipes of rapidly moving wiper blades did I thankfully see the red tailights of other cars, that just seemed to appear.
Now, the whole thing could of just been one of those funny little coincidences. I found a quiet spot. But it certainly didn't FEEL like it. Felt like I was somewhere.... else, just for a little while. Roads are strange places.
A timeslip?
I love the HWoH series. They scare me out of my whole butt.
However, the Emily and Lewis story was truly heart-chilling...tragic.
Thanks for more!
Out of all the series in BTS i do agree that the HWoH series is criminally underrated
Great episode. Chilling and entertaining to the fullest. Strange/scary stories on dark roads are the best! I have a few of my own…and I swear, even in my almost fifth decade of life, I still feel uneasy traveling on a certain road near my home.
The last one reminded me of an Australian cryptid I once read about. I think it’s called Cheeroonear, the dog-faced man.
You knocked this one out of the park, boys. Excellent! Soulful, eerie - so satisfying. And Mikey, dang! The transitions - of the lovely girl and the strange creature - were amazing. I want to frame and display the opening illustration of the first tale. Well done, all!
highways of horror is honestly your best series. I hope you make more
Jeez that last story was awful. I’ve driven the Australian outback but would never drive at night for obvious reasons; neither for that matter would I drive from Melbourne to Broome. Great video guys, illustrated, narrated & produced very well. Rog from Wales.
Wouldn't drive from Melbourne to Broome? Why? too far?..........Ta...............
That first story scared me the most. I could feel goosebumps all over my body and hairs standing on end...
Same
There's ALREADY a prick who's hit the "dislike" button?!? That's criminal!! These guys have GREAT CONTENT!! And I hope they never stop bringing it!!👍❤️💯
@Beau Lijah Right... They need to have a rule that states, that "if you hit 👎 on more than 1 video per day, then you have to PAY to watch RUclips for the rest of that MONTH! At least THEN, you'd have almost everyone abiding by the rule most (decent) parents make for their kids: "if you don't have anything 'nice' to say, don't say anything at all"... Or "If you can't get along with somebody, just stay the heck away from them". You know... The kind of mentality that tries to have people be the best version of themselves that they can be. Because honestly,, I'd probably go to JAIL if I said everything I wanted to on here sometimes (and I like to THINK I'm a good person)! 😂
spectacular animation for the Kuntilinak story. especially the creature changing.
Assuming the last story is real, i wish they had a dashcam.
Same :( i can't stop thinking that it might have just been a sick kangaroo and id like to be able to see it to tell
@@chonkycharlie Could have been a large species of lizard, the Komodo dragon lives comparatively close to Australia. It has black eyes and can walk on its hind legs, has a nasty set of gashers too. Seeing something unexpected like a large lizard in low light conditions, travelling too fast to focus and heavily fatigued would certainly leave you wondering what on earth you have just seen.
@@Socialistcheese111 totally! Though they cant sustain walking on their hind legs for that long its still a possibility
@@chonkycharlie If he was going at speed then we are talking of seeing it for 3-5 seconds max. The rest of the stuff he describes about it walking etc would be his mind trying to fill in the gaps.
@@Socialistcheese111 also true
Getting on Google Earth and going to Streetview, you can easily see what the actual location looks like. Seriously excellent job with the artwork.
There is always something extra creepy about highway stories. I remember the episode about the truck driver hearing a dog barking only then to see a demonic person outside his windows barking... very tragic about the story in Oz, we do have creepy roads here
Hey I heard this story before in one of Rusty West's creepy stories collection
One of my favorite episodes! I come back to it again and again
You’re alive! I’ve missed you guys this month! Yay!
Absolutely one of your best episodes ever guys and there have been many excellent ones. Well done. I can't believe how long the list of financial contributors is, thought it would never end! Greetings from Ireland, plenty of scary stories etc from here that you guys could look into/do an episode on. 👊
Just what i need a bedtime story while in bed. Keep them coming
15:55 - wonder how expensive that custom plate was.
Ayo.. Indonesian here. I drive night a lots sometimes with car or motorcycle plus my dad came from palembang and yes sumatran road is creepy af, the ghost thing is rare though but criminal thing is what make people scared 🥺.
If you want some creepy and haunted road, you can find it a lots in java island especially in Pantura highway. 🙏
My lord the vampire story was unnerving, the art was perfect, especially her waving to the guy as he sped down the road.
Highways of Horror Part 2. Let's go!!!!
The first story, that Stefan kid, all I could think was, don't you know that you NEVER, EVER look back????
That stefan kid was silly to walk back home in the dark, should have stayed at his friend's house till his dad came back from work and picked him up from his friend's house
Aussies feel free to jump in but I'm convinced the last one was a large species of lizard. The Komodo Dragon of Indonesia has entirely black eyes and can walk on its hind legs and will do so especially if it feels threatened/ startled. Combine that with the fatigue and speed the car was going then the driver wouldn't know what he had just seen.
Komodo dragons don’t live in Australia.
@@damnboi7374 I know that, I was just using it as an example of what giant species of lizard could do. Australia DOES have smaller, closely related monitor lizards which exhibit similar behaviours.
I think I'm gonna lean towards a sickly kangaroo
The mental image I drew up listening to the last story was the most horrifying thing my mind has ever concocted
This episode of Bedtime Stories is NOT brought to you by RAID Shadow Legends! lololol! Another great one, guys.
You guys are really on the top of your game. I hope you never get tired of your fans telling you that.
Also from the island of Palembang we have a remarkable account of a small Bigfoot type creature, the Sedapa, from a Dutch hunter. When the being finally fled after he had observed it for some time, the sight of the little female's long black hair streaming behind her as she ran caused Van Heerwarden to lower his rifle, although he had a clear shot at it. He said he was convinced he was about to murder a human girl, and couldn't bring himself to shoot.
Kuntilanak is one of the scariest ghost appearance in my country. Hearing the third story made me shivering.
I have spent a lot of time visiting all over New Mexico and the roads there all seem to have a special creepiness about them. Especially at night, there are definitely a lot of eerie things going on out there. Her smart doggies certainly knew something was wrong!
@@osakarose5612 I agree… the high strangeness on NM roads isn’t present only at night. I’d be very interested in hearing about your experience if you would like to share it. I knew people who lived in Dulce and they told some amazing stories that they swore were all true. 🤔
Yes, especially back when it was route 666. I pulled off for gas one time in broad daylight and could not find one person in the whole town. Then in a walmart parking lot I saw tons of cars gathered. I drove over, and before I could arrive all the cars skidded off. I looked inside the walmart and the lights were on but I couldn't see one person. I decided to get gas at another town!
@@LTPottenger Wow, that had to have been an eerie experience!
@@KarenSmith-pc8ji Yes by coincidence I was with a girl named Karen on that trip, and she was basically screaming and saying stuff like "get back on the road!". I'm not sure what was going on but even though I am usually not sensitive to mood I felt like something was very wrong the second we pulled off.
@@LTPottenger Good thing you had a witness with you or you probably would’ve had a harder time getting anyone to believe your experience. That’s very strange!
Man your work should be on TV!!!! Never fails. I love the highway series!❤❤❤❤
This is was great episode and one of the best for a long time. This channel is at its best when making content about the paranormal far more so than the unsolved mysteries and disappearances. I especial liked the story of the kuntilanak. That one was genuinely terrifying.
12:28 - GAH! The moving eyes legit startled me.
The artwork is breathtaking!
I lost it at the casual mention of three dogs who "unfortunately despised one another." Like they had had a falling out years ago but are still roommates.
I'm so happy for a bedtime story! Even though it's 2 PM here!
Lmao 4am for me :’) Been up doing things but now I’m tossing. This is gonna send me off with ease
Never stop to look back. It's a lesson I also learned years ago when I had a strange encounter walking streets at night.
So happy to get another story before bedtime tonight.
Your channel is fab. Been binging on these while sick with COVID. Gotta love when an entity scares your fur babies into getting along.
I just get so excited when a new episode drops!! I'm like a little kid in a candy shop. Lol. Great episode guys!!
Best super natural / cryptid / crime / horror Channel on RUclips. The only channel I support monthly! Keep up the great work loved this video as always!!!
15:40
Me: And what's with that stupid grin?
Kuntilanak: Life's been good to me.
Gotta love the licence plate on the car in story three..!..Another top quality video as usual by the way..!!
So what kind of cryptid could that last one be? It most matches the description of the Wendigo but that's from North America.
I think the skin walker was the one attributed to the nqtives starving but wendigo is the tribes shaman changing form so it seems plausable that the Australian natives had a similar ability
I'd be leaning more towards something like the Bunyip! It's an Australian, First Nations cryptid, they warned the Colonial folks about it being "out in the bush", way back, when they first landed ashore...
Someone pointed out its just a kangaroo...and I think it might just be it
@@takewhataway I was talking with a colleague about this and it's entirely possible it's a kangaroo, but typically kangaroos are quite muscular and not skinny and emaciated - unless it was on the verge of death. Plus, they'd have eyeshine in the headlights and not dark pits for eye sockets
@@takewhataway - "He was never the same after he saw this terrifying creature and took his own life shortly afterwards"
"Yeah, sounds like a kangaroo"
Do you think that a kangaroo is capable of shredding someone's sanity like something out of Lovecraft?
Chills! the last story & art was profoundly terrifying.
Run for the hills, Stefan! Run! 😳
One of my favourite channels on YT. I really wish BS would upload more often. I guess it can be easier said than done, but I appreciate when you guys do release a video. I always find them fascinating. Great work BS!!
