  • All dentists miss their IAN blocks from time to time and for some it can be a major struggle! This video shows you an alternative way to deliver the block that may be more predictable for you!
    * See 00:30sec for the ideal needle position during injection*
    1. Use a 27 gauge short needle.
    2. Palpate the coronoid notch.
    3. Enter the tissue just above the thumbnail and advance to hit bone.
    4. Deposit some local anesthetic to numb the buccal nerve.
    5. Re-orient and advance the needle leaving just a few mm out from the tissues and your needle tip will be positioned directly above the lingula.
    6. Alternatively, you can use a long needle and advance it to about 1/2 of it's depth if you're not comfortable inserting a short needle so deeply.
