You repeated a lot of things here but overall v good. I have first gen 65 plate and love it. Best car I have owned I always look back after I walk away.
The Jaguar XE is a fantastic car to drive, it always was. It had issues which have been solved, some of them were silly things that if Jag hadn't tried to rush it out the door could have been done. A 2016 executive car with no Apple Carplay when things like a Vauxhall Corsa had it is crazy! The other issue which was one of the few reasons I didn't buy one at the time was a pushy sale team, I spent over 3 hours in the dealership and saw many people walk out for the same reason I did. I went elsewhere and bought a car with everything I wanted for a better price and much nicer sales team. It was such a shame as the Jag XE is a dream car of mine.
Great video, as always you guys have a very good quality and professional review. I think it looks great, very agressive and sporty look it will appeal to young potential buyers. The only thing I could complain about the new XE model is the bezel design for the navigation system and also the mini screen that comes in the middle of that touch climate control.
I have the 2017 XE 2.0 Diesel. It is an excellent car with great fuel efficiency. I disagree on the interior part, I think it is quite comparable and probably better put together than an A4 of the same year. The main reason this model didn't sell was the arrogant JRL dealers. They never make you feel welcome, don't follow up and won't budge on price. You cannot do that when you are fighting established rivals. Something has to give.
@@Andy-zi1wj Well, I might be biased as an XE owner, but I didn't like that dial in Audi A4 and no touch screen. BMW interior (literally) melts away after 5 years and half the electronics pack up. Also, I checked out my colleague's Z Series when she bought it brand-new. I keep my X-Type, because of it's "Britishness" of the Interior! Why would one like to drive a British car? Because of it's Britishness! And exactly THIS, the modern Jaguar's are lacking of! Pitty for the brand!
Nah mate you need to do your research. The X Type was actually a very competent car, the press at the time even put it close to being a 3 series beater. Even Clarkson liked it. What went wrong was: 1. Styling didn't appeal to younger customers that bought compact executives. 2. Press made a massive deal about the 10% of parts it shared with Mondeo. 3. Range was launched with only 2.5 and 3.0 V6 Petrol. It should have launched with a diesel range and smaller petrols to compete in the volume part of this market. They fixed this far too late. The actual car itself was solid and performed well, what ruined it was Ford being totally clueless about the type of customer buying compact executives.
Very nice review that could have been improved with more of your personal opinion. As is, the review sounds more like a manufacturers sales pitch. I still enjoyed it though as I was completely unfamiliar with Jaguar. I like it and will add to my short list.
The V6 would have been seriously interesting, but with only 4-cylinder engines being available, I have bought a Stinger GT. Brilliant car and significantly more value for money as well.
Wonderful, very professional. The only thing I would say is the XE has always been a saloon worthy of consideration since it was first launched. Any buyer who didn't has missed a trick. Not everything has to be textbook perfect to be best in class, and it is in my opinion.
@@rivervalegroup I actually found the review slightly confusing, as I watched the 2016 review recently by your channel and at that time it was very well received. Now you seem to be slating it, at least at the beginning. I've never heard anybody complain about the cabin noise, and overall you seem to be making the same noises as you did back in 2016. My opinion, and it is only that, is that Jaguar were harmed by their perceived mistake that was the X-Series. I say "perceived" because it was actually Ford's mistake, anybody who understood the class would have known that just putting a new skin on the Mondeo would never work, but everyone who reviews the XE keeps on harking back to that, and it's surely not helpful. For me, all things considered, it's been best in class from day one.
I couldn’t believe it when back in the early 2010’s I heard Jaguar were developing 1) A car to take on the 3 series and 2) Building a new factory near Wolverhampton to build ICE's to power it. It was obvious even then that the industry was going electric and Tesla have proved that to challenge the ‘German Establishment’ you have to think different. The Model 3 is outselling all the German equivalents in the USA and this year is setting about Europe with a car that outperforms the XE and all the German offerings. It doesn’t matter how fancy your petrol or diesel (yuk) burning efforts are, the electric motor is simply a superior device and that factory in Wolverhampton will have to switch to making electric drivetrains. Until Jaguar can think radically about how to take on the German’s the XE and their other models will be sales pups. The only car Jaguar sells all it can make is the iPace.
@miyahtallulah Let’s hope so. They are losing money and don’t have the scale of Mercedes/BMW/Audi. The ICE engine plant near Wolverhampton was a massive investment which will be difficult to recover but it makes sense to turn the Ingenium engine to the job of a 3 cylinder 1.5l generator for PHEVs to help the inevitable transition to BEV. Fact is that Jaguar is a small company, only propped up by the Land Rover arm which has much bigger sales. There is just no point in trying to ‘out-engineer’ the Germans, the electric motor makes all that clever engineering irrelevant..they need to focus on design with a clean sheet approach as they did with the iPace.
The most complete and eloquent review I've seen. Now, what really happened to the XE? Why did it flop, especially in its home country? Seriously, I thought that in a country with so many brexiteers, it would be at least as popular as its German competitors.
Nice to see they have improved the look of the steering wheel a bit by reducing the size of that huge circular air bag that ruined the interior look of the last model.
It's like the first XF - the 2011 refresh is how the car should have been from launch, and the current XF should now be a step on again. The XE was always competing against established rivals while being slightly inferior in almost every respect. The XJ was lovely in 2010 although now is laughably outdated compared with, say, an S-Class. Even the E-Pace and F-Pace are merely 'pretty good' in a marketplace crowded with excellent rivals. The F-Type has just been restyled when, by my count, it's coming up on seven years old now, and running on a platform that was designed on a shoestring in 2004. The 911 meanwhile... And the i-Pace? I'm still not sure what it is or how it acts as a halo for the rest of Jag's range. Here's a tip Jag, if your infotainment is known for being laggy, don't launch your new all-singing all-dancing rolling tech demo without fixing it first!
It would look much nicer with round headlamps. And without those giant scoops on either side of the grille. For getting in and out of the rear seat, one should remember to order the optional hard hat.
What a brilliantly put together review - and what a fantastic car All i want now is for you to toss me the keys! Considering this car against the maxed spec Mazda 3, but the looks on this are sooooo nice
The competition is just too strong. I would prefer to have a more luxurious stance like the old 2005 model rather than a sporty stance. Sporty luxury cars is highly competitive in this day and age.
Hi just jumping in im hoping in a few months thinking of getting a new car and ive been looking at jaguar. The lack of HP is was killed off the Jaguar market. The big V8's that came with the early version of the XF & XJ series was a major selling point, once Jaguar went to the 3.0L and now the 4 cylinder even with a turbo doesn't make up for the feel of the power across the power band with the 5.0L models. I had an loner XE while getting service on my wife XF and it was night and day feel. I recently purchased a XJL and purposely went for an older model with the V8 supercharge engine.
The original XE was a beautiful car with a bland interior and rubbish electronics. The facelift is a vast improvement. Sadly they have the same issue with the XF. I have a 2012 XF that I've had for 6 years now, after over 20 years running Mercedes E Classes. The driving dynamics are vastly better, even than the current E Class, and the looks 10x better, but the interior, ergonomics and electronics are way behind the Germans. I forgive it every time I get on a twisty road or just look at it, but wish I didn't need to. The problems Jag has are easily resolved. Just get a focus group of ex German car owners. Simple ergonomic changes and a few small materials adjustments and they'd have world beaters. Still, everyone buys SUVs these days I guess - and at least JLR have the best products in that segment.
@@julben1900 I have ordered a new xe. With the drop in price and improvement in standard equipment and entertainment system it was too good a deal. Also my head and heart were in agreement on buying it.
The directional wheels on the right side spin in the wrong direction. The left side sweeps whereas the right sides scoop. The left wheels and right wheels should mirror each other Jaguar cheaper out on this.
Brilliant review, the most thorough ever. I've always liked Jags and this one is gorgeous on the outside but hugely underwhelming on the inside. Dash still l just a big slab with bizarre shapes above vents and nothing but a huge lump in front of a passenger. Not worthy of a luxo brand.

The looks a d the use of Aluminium to save weight. I think it's by far the best looking car in its class. I also like the fact that it's British. (I'm German btw😊).
"Awful, old circular transmission selector"...first of all, I don't really think it was selecting transmissions (if I'm not mistaken, there's only one transmission), but, rather, gears. More important, there's nothing "awful" about a control that allows your hand to rest in a natural position while ELECTRICALLY selecting a gear. Why do we need a big stick to operate electrical switches? That "old" knob that elegantly and silently rose up to meet your palm upon start-up and just as elegantly and silently rotated to Park and then descended into the console at shut-down was a very luxurious touch. Jaguar has taken a giant step backwards by returning to the same ugly, pointless stick that every other carmaker uses, and sticks out like the sore thumb that it is. Totally pointless design for an electrical control, and a terrible and totally pointless design regression.
Lovely car, but do we need it? A higher stance or bigger/longer load area would differentiate it from the standard German competition. Why not a hatchback or coupé version? There is just too much 'we need a 4 door saloon' thinking at board level that maybe the buying public are just not switched onto nowadays. Julian Thompson, step up to your mark.
why you compare the dynamics to BMW when Alfa is the most dynamic car in this segment. Jag is also its closest rival as individual alternative to boring germans.

I've had my 2017 XE-R for 4 years now, and the only maintenance issue has been the entertainment system -- and even then, only software issues. Their "In-Control Pro system" (more like Out-of-Control Amateur system) is apparently based on a Microsoft OS and it sucks big time. Hopefully they've gotten another software vendor for their new models.

More luxury, more technology, more value but less rear seat space and comfort
Here's a tip Jag, if your infotainment is known for being laggy, don't launch your new all-singing all-dancing rolling tech demo without fixing it first!
new system is very good
It would look much nicer with round headlamps. And without those giant scoops on either side of the grille.
For getting in and out of the rear seat, one should remember to order the optional hard hat.
What a brilliantly put together review - and what a fantastic car
All i want now is for you to toss me the keys!
Considering this car against the maxed spec Mazda 3, but the looks on this are sooooo nice
The competition is just too strong. I would prefer to have a more luxurious stance like the old 2005 model rather than a sporty stance. Sporty luxury cars is highly competitive in this day and age.
Fantastic car by the looks of it but like most cars in this segment I wouldn't like to spend my own money on one but as a company car a great choice.
Strange. First time I've ever liked the pre-facelift better. F-Type as well as XE. Inside, as well as outside.
Tolles Auto!
Hi just jumping in im hoping in a few months thinking of getting a new car and ive been looking at jaguar. I have never had one before but seen great reviews on them like this review but as a family man I'm looking at the XE and XF is there much difference between them. I'm also looking at ones from 2015 to 2016 models is there much boot space in Them?

Is the car body is made of aluminum too? Or only the chassi?
i have had 2 new 3 aeries since its launch, really wanted the xe, couldnt justify on c02 /performnce v 320d, and next car v 330e hybrid, lack of hybrid really silly miss. both 3 wer msports, very good apart from trully terrible steering feel ( ruins the car ) , and not very good break feel, plus nobbly ride, so its an open goal for me , but missed again, they have sorted desil now , but hybrids the way forward now, wen can i have 1? to compete with 330E please?
Now you can
@@nigelmorley5414 really?
The lack of HP is was killed off the Jaguar market. The big V8's that came with the early version of the XF & XJ series was a major selling point, once Jaguar went to the 3.0L and now the 4 cylinder even with a turbo doesn't make up for the feel of the power across the power band with the 5.0L models. I had an loner XE while getting service on my wife XF and it was night and day feel. I recently purchased a XJL and purposely went for an older model with the V8 supercharge engine.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 👍 How are you finding the XJL?
I have always felt the same about the jaguar xe and xf. Have you seen the updated xf just launched.
@@richardrichard9631 I have and a massive improvement it is too. Pretty sure that’s what I’ll be swapping my current XF for when the time comes.
@@julben1900 I have ordered a new xe. With the drop in price and improvement in standard equipment and entertainment system it was too good a deal. Also my head and heart were in agreement on buying it.
Looking nice.
The main reason I didn't get one was price. I really wanted one but didn't want to pay extra for like for like spec.
I liked the review but too many repeats of the same points.
Sharp looking car, but they need to sort out the shut lines around the bonnet/headlamp clusters. Poor alignment is too obvious.
Can you get a 2018 say under 10 grand that's not a basket case, I was thinking about auctions where's the best auctions for Jaguar?
quality channel
Many thanks for watching!
Thank you for the smart review. I'm very keen on the 2020 Land Rover Defender and would like to know if OSV will be making it to any of the UK press launches in 2020 for the vehicle.
Hi Anthony, we would very much like to. Are you inviting us?!
@@rivervalegroup in 2019 / 2020 you are part of 'the media' and I suspect you would be able to participate in these sort of events as your RUclips content speaks for itself.
I would have hoped you were able to attend the recent Defender event in Gaydon (Warwickshire) as it would nicely complement your long-form review content.
Cheers
there is no V6 supercharged engine and that's what will spell its doom.. very sad. I owned a caesium blue Jag XE 3.5t S with 340 bhp and boy that one rocked. i miss it. Damn you Jaguar for not getting a V6 for the new 2020 models. Peace!
But hey i now own a racing blue Jaguar XFRS!! love it.
Hi Ash,
It's always great to hear from someone who's found a car they love driving.
@@rivervalegroup thnxx :) ...yes love the Jags.. they are quirky but special. I wish they had put in the supercharged V6 in the new XE though. Such a bummer!
I think jaguar should be thinking of competing with the executive markets as there once did before. Such as compete with the Mercedes-Benz S Class but a little cheaper.
They do..they have the XJL which competes with the S class, Audi a8 ,and the 7 Series
30 quid to top up the ad blue tank? You can buy 10L of the stuff for a tenner.
If only it didn't make the cabin stink of piss on extended motorway drives.
@@C.I... You don't have to store the whole 10L in the boot.
@@earthstick Nah it only smelled when the system was active. First few weeks of ownership wondered why there were silage fields every 10-20 miles, then we realised it was the car.

Merc, then jag for looks, Alpha, BMW then audi. Interior is nice in the jag.
Merc look old school. Too rounded back end abit retro looking.
Can we increase its ground clearance
Hi Raival, you can raise the ground clearance by around 0.5 - 1 inches by upgrading the tyres to a larger size 👍
@@rivervalegroup thank you
Honestly I think it's down to how stubby the boot lid is, looks like a chopped XF
Hmmm. I don't think it's as simple as that man.
I have an XF so I know how sexy these cars are - it gets admiring glances wherever I go.
no selector knob?
Love my F type R!!😁
Lucky you! Beautiful car.
Best looking car out there,I can only afford the xe but love it, people need to start buying these beautiful cars before it’s too late and they are no longer, everybody seems to be brainwashed by ze Germans, well people jag are back order yours today
I’m sure this new Jag is a great car, but the length of this video will only entice the already converted and not the curious.

For me, biggest turn off for the BMW or Mercedes is the boring black, black, or black interiors - like being in a cave
The old gear selector is far nicer than this version.
I like my (2018) XE. The tech then was far more than I needed. The biggest failing - stemming from its beauty - is poor rearwards vision.
I really like the Jaguar, but why is nobody buying it?!
What do you like most about it Murad?
Is it eiger grey or indus silver?
Should be eiger grey.
Very cool car but that price OOMMGG.
why you compare the dynamics to BMW when Alfa is the most dynamic car in this segment. Jag is also its closest rival as individual alternative to boring germans.
Simply awesome than mercedes and BMW

Quality control?
I've had my 2017 XE-R for 4 years now, and the only maintenance issue has been the entertainment system -- and even then, only software issues. Their "In-Control Pro system" (more like Out-of-Control Amateur system) is apparently based on a Microsoft OS and it sucks big time. Hopefully they've gotten another software vendor for their new models.
