I have TrackIR and I was interested in Tobi but the price was to me ridiculous so I never got it. Then comes Beam and when I saw your first video on it I bought it and am very satisfied with it. I saved a lot of money with Beam.
I bought Beam after your first video. This is the best video Ive seen for setting up Open Track by far. I was so frustrated with it but this will help me so much for MSFS and iRacing.
Dude, this is awesome. I just happen to come across this video and after watching it I immediately canceled my order of the Tobii. I installed everything as per your instructions and I was up and flying in no time. I still have some fine-tuning to do but I sure like this better than spending $300 on the Tobii. Wish we could've met up at FSExpo in Vegas to say hi. I've watched a lot of your videos and you've helped me considerably. Keep up the great work.
Bought this after your first video after i saw it can follow one or both eyes. As a low vision person, with only one eye to see with, I can confirm it works great.
Thanks for the video. I have one of the cheapest cameras from Logitech, the C270. A 43" 4K monitor is at a distance of 1 meter / 39.3". It works perfectly, and in my opinion better and more configurable than TrackIr, mainly due to the particularity that with Beam Eye, when you lose the objective, the image remains stable, as you said in the video, with TrackIr everything flashes and we lose immersion . Furthermore, the option of being able to try it first to see if it is worth buying is also incredible. I already bought it, as I need Steam for MSFS it's not a problem for me not to be separated. My best regards.
Thank you so much for the detailed tutorial, especially on the Opentrack. I bought Beam Eye on Steam but have had problems with the track lagging when I'm flying in DCS and IL-2. I'm hoping some of these tips will help me fix the problem.
Greetings, I'm an American and I had to buy the beam software through steam, which I didn't want to do, but for whatever reason, I wasn't able to make the purchase on the eye ware beam purchase page because it was saying the product was in China and therefore my card couldn't be charged. So just FYI, for others having the same issue, u can purchase through steam, even tho I'd rather not have done that. Thanks
I tried this and it worked OK, I'll stick with TrackIR after my testing. I've tried it with two webcams, a cheap one off Amazon and a Razer Kiyo Pro and it would be fine if you had nothing else. My biggest complaint is that it takes a lot of CPU cycles. It would be good for a second computer running ATS. It didn't live up to the hype of this video that is for sure.
I was using the Acura marker in open track and the camera I was using busted. I have an extra cam but have been looking at track ir hoping for better ease of use. The comment you made about buying one actually made by natural point has been a challenge. I cannot tell what is real. Going to give beam a try. Thx for the info.
I bought a webcam plus beam and tried it with opentrack but its delayed and doesnt properly track it jumps around some times and doesnt place the middle of my screen exactly where i want it will be a pain to try to cage lock in a dogfight with another plane in dcs it sucks i spent 60$ for this and now im not gonna use it my 8$ airmouse i strap to my headset works better with no delay and actually points where i look, theres more options for beam and opentrack meaning x y z and roll but i just use keybind if i need to move my head up and down left to right forward back main thing is yaw and pitch and the airmouse is so much better for me personally.
I've noticed that you only use Beam for adjusting your eye movement but then you almost completely disable eye movement in OpenTrack. Then all subsequent adjustments and settings are done in OpenTrack. What does Beam add to the setup. Do you need it at all or can you just use OpenTrack? I watched a video on just using OpenTrack with my phone as webcam but when I tried it, I couldn't the shakiness out of the picture. I don't know if it's because I wasn't using a real webcam or not using Beam.
My only issue is that at a certain angle looking down beam just looses my eyes and it starts to like jitter so I always have issues with looking at my center pedestal, with this tutorial I can set up my head axis better so it would be already looking down before the down jitter happens. I'm also buying a better camera with 60fps for better head tracking
Thank you for this wonderful video. I was ready to uninstall it as I did not like the setup issues, but have saved the day. I still have one problem and that is the speed at which the movement is. Is there a way to dampen the speed?
Looks interesting but based on your recommendation I decided to get the RJSimTech Track IR setup. Been waiting a couple weeks, hopefully it comes soon.
Great video... I have a question though... I am trying to do the setup in DCS.. I have both Beam Eye and Open Track installed..... trying to do the mapping and in your video you were able to overlay both Beam Eye and Open Track over your MSFS cockpit screen.. I am trying to do the same in DCS.... how were you able to overlay those on top of the cockpit screen?.. I've been ALT Tabbing but thats a pain... tks in advance.....
I love your videos. I would like to know will this work with light behind you. I have a widow directly behind me. Track ir does not work. Thank you for the input. Great video.
Great video but can you please talk slower? Bought a web cam and the necessary software and after 3 hrs. or so finally got it to work. Now I have to work on the settings. Please, please slow it down a bit.
Just set this up with a pretty basic Logitech HD Pro C920. I have a Elgato Facecam Mk2 on the way. Works very well so far, and I don't have to wear a headband or headset with it, which is great.
Thanks for the detailed review. Even cheaper is the NeuralNet input option built into OpenTrack. No eye tracking though. I might try the demo of this though as a comparison. I have a 60fps 1080 webcam though so that might a benefit as I get no lag with NeuralNet, compared to my Grass Monkey puck. I changed because I could never configure the puck correctly and had to keep re-centring. Nothing on your head is a big positive too.
Well it is nice to know about all this stuff, but I use VR for my head tracking while doing SIM Racing games, so these tools would be redundant and useless for me. VR does a great of eye tracking in any direction I look. And I can move around in a VR environment and look in all directions. If I din't have VR, maybe these tools would be of some use for me. If I should ever need something like this, I know there are videos on various head tracking tools. Take care.
Thanks for this. Gives me a good idea what to do next. My trashir 5 camera started stuttering a while back, the 3 light LED clip thing fell apart not long after warranty ran out. The only advice I found was buy a new one and I refuse to hand over my money for junk again. I'd rather take a chance on a web cam and hope the cpu hit isnt too bad. Thanks again for the vid.
Thanks, OK I just bought the camera you use and just bought beam. Camera arrived today seems to be the biz and very easily attached to my monitor. I will update you later thanks for your help
Man if you can help me with this question I will finally be able to get this set up correctly. HOW DO YOU SLOW DOWN THE YAW & PITCH SPEED. It’s moving too fast for my liking right now. Any advice will be much appreciated
In opentrack, moving the dot left and right determines the amount of head movement required Moving the dot top to bottom increases or decreases the camera movement that will be injected into the sim The higher the dot is UP the scale, the more the camera will move The further RIGHT the dot is, the more HEAD MOVEMENT will be required I hope that helps

Is it worth it ?

I user a C170 which works well, no issues.

I run tobii, but I also turn off eye tracking. For flight sim the eye tracking is really a bit distracting. Tobii does a great job on head tracking

does it operate the same on both webcams ? cheap an expensive ?
@@saren6538 Yes, I see no reason to use an expense web cam.

Impicked this up after your last video and it is by far the best tracker for the money out there. No need to buy a tobii anymore.
I bought a webcam plus beam and tried it with opentrack but its delayed and doesnt properly track it jumps around some times and doesnt place the middle of my screen exactly where i want it will be a pain to try to cage lock in a dogfight with another plane in dcs it sucks i spent 60$ for this and now im not gonna use it my 8$ airmouse i strap to my headset works better with no delay and actually points where i look, theres more options for beam and opentrack meaning x y z and roll but i just use keybind if i need to move my head up and down left to right forward back main thing is yaw and pitch and the airmouse is so much better for me personally.
ive spent hours tweaking everything and i cant get it to track properly
Danke!

60fps webcam ?
@@saren6538 no, 1080p 30fps webcam
I bought this last week followed your setup. I does take some getting used to. Didn’t realise how much I moved my head… thank you
You obviously don't fly VFR looking for traffic very often. Roll is crucial in that case.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I was ready to uninstall it as I did not like the setup issues, but have saved the day.

What is the Accela filter setting in Open track?
Looks interesting but based on your recommendation I decided to get the RJSimTech Track IR setup. Been waiting a couple weeks, hopefully it comes soon.
Please overkill could you share your configuration? Opentrack profile and filter i mean . Thank you!

+1 SUB! GREAT VID THX. BUYING TOMORROW.
Hi Overkill, how would I use this with a laptop camera but not actually use the laptop screen? Mal.
Has anyone tried this with a 49” super ultrawide monitor? I heard some of the other eye/head trackers don’t work very well with them
I love your videos. I would like to know will this work with light behind you. I have a widow directly behind me. Track ir does not work. Thank you for the input. Great video.
Yes I have tested that.. on occasion it will wig out but yes much better than trackir
wow this amazing isnt it... can i just connect any usb webcam ?
Can you share youre ini file of opentrack?
Great video but can you please talk slower? Bought a web cam and the necessary software and after 3 hrs. or so finally got it to work. Now I have to work on the settings. Please, please slow it down a bit.
I already have a Tobii. Is there any reason to switch?
You can sell the Tobii!
No you don't have me sold. I will just use open track.
Just set this up with a pretty basic Logitech HD Pro C920. I have a Elgato Facecam Mk2 on the way. Works very well so far, and I don't have to wear a headband or headset with it, which is great.
Thank you for taking so much of your time to calmly instruct us on how to setup Beam. It really has made this a much better experience. COOL!
The view always shows as if I'm sitting on the nose of the aircraft. How do I move the position back inside the cockpit?
I have set up my webcam to do head tracking with open track. So am I right in assuming that getting beam will allow me to eyetracking as well.

Could you please make a video about app trackers, such as Trakar and HeadMob tracker? Btw, HeadMob android app is free.
Thanks, OK I just bought the camera you use and just bought beam. Camera arrived today seems to be the biz and very easily attached to my monitor. I will update you later thanks for your help
In the BEAM settings for Camera Access, are you using Exclusive, or Shared?
Thanks for this 'How To' video. It really helped me out 🙂
Just got this and the dam thing wont even open.... disappointed
