You re-roll dice before modifiers. So if you have a -1 to hit, and can reroll 1's, you only reroll dice that show a 1 face. After the reroll you apply modifiers and after that any conditions like 6's do mortal wounds or 1's explode and kill you are worked out. Example for Hellblasters shooting a flyer and overcharging: 3 Hellblasters = 6 shots (rapid fire) Roll: 4, 2, 1, 3, 5, 6 Reroll the 1's Let's say that 1 goes to a 2 Now you have: 4, 2, 2, 3, 5, 6 Apply modifiers (-1) Now you have: 3, 1, 1, 2, 4, 5 Hit on 3+ = 3 hits Explode on 1's = 2 dead boiis If you had any special rule that pops on a 6+, you can see it's impossible to get it Same applies when you reroll general misses, you reroll any misses that you would have without modifiers and then apply them. This means thats if you hit on 3+ with a -1 modifier, roll all 3's, and can reroll misses, you're shit outta luck as those 3's normally hit. This is all in the FAQ.
Worth pointing out that when several models fire weapons like Plasma Guns you need to roll for each of their shots separately (though if it's 9 regular dudes an 1 leader, then you can fast-roll with the 9 regular dudes if it's just one shot each). It's important for when you're in rapid-fire range and each model shoots twice, since if you rolle 20 dice and got 8 1's, that would be 8 dead dudes, when if you rolled it properly (2 dice for one guy each) you might end up rolling double 1's on some of them instead, etc. Basically, by the definitions of the rules *every dice roll* should be done one at a time. But because that would take eons you can "fast roll" when it doesn't matter. For Plasma, it often does.
ugh, my exact reaction too... I get that they may not have played many games yet, but there's some bad play going on in both games so far and I'm just squirming uncomfortably watching them.
Man, Ben's my favorite; it looks like a delight to play tabletop games with you. Such great sportsmanship even though he would have tabled Alex if the game went on. gg
lewis vs duncan was not very fair. He just had foot soldiers while duncan had "I'll kill all your guys in 1 turn because of special stuff" rules and units vs lewis
Obviously doesn't help when Lewis doesn't have a clue with what he's doing and Duncan is using old rules or not reading them properly... Also that damage allocation overflow...
Great game to watch looked a lot of fun, this and the necromunda videos have made my past week, sadly I only have an ork army these days but am working on a custom necromunda gang who if I ever get to finish will fight under the house orlock flag with the original book rules, thanks for sharing your video guy's.
Used to play a small 40K Ork army about 7-8 years ago and didn't have much money to buy boyz so my army was rather lacking in bulk which as many of you would know is the main tactic of orks. Anyway, was playing against the dude who ran the club who had like 3 different armies who was fielding an Eldar army that had recently had an overhaul and he had all the new OP units including that EmoJet that Alex has. I gave up turn 2 after that one jet gunned down 60% of my army with it's insane splinter missiles and splinter gattling guns (can't remember their names). As you can imagine 3 small grenade templates on a group of tightly clustered 30ish boyz didn't go well and despite how much firepower I threw at it, Orks ain't great at shooty shoots no matter how much you scream dakka :/
WeirdestWolf sorry that happened but in previous editions especially orks could field waaay more models than eldar (or deldar as Alex is playing) but eldar have traditionally been reasonably strong to OP since 6th but only really when your opponent min/maxes their list.
Bring back Poker Night! Bring back Poker Night! We want Poker Night! - What do we want? - Poker Night! - When do we want it? - As soon as possible please!
13:51 I have been searching for 15 minutes, wth is petiqua? pettykwa? petit quoi? If it's "petit quoi" ("a little somethin?") I'm imagining its just a fancy name what US groceries call "mixed vegetables," carrots, peas, & green beans? But no results are coming up for that phrase
Normally what my friend and I do, is when it says -1 to hit, we just say that the target of the dice roll is higher, aka a 3+ to hit is now a 4+ to hit, and the dice facing of a 1 still does what it does. Same for making it +1 to hit, where 6's do something: only if the dice facing activates the ability They will never see this, but hey.
I think he also forgot his Dark Elder's Power from Pain rules, they get better every full turn that passes. Also all his infantry can ignore wounds on 6+. But lets be honest, Battleboys aren't known for remembering all the book rules.
I don't think anyone has one, but any of the imperials could ally them in if they choose to paint them up. Maybe Dunc or Ben will split the new forgebane box with Lewis.
Alex couldnt advance at the end of the game there. ADVANCE HAPPENS ONLY IN THE MOVEMENT PHASE AND UNITS WHO ADVANCED CAN'T SHOOT UNLESS THEY HAVE ASSAULT WEAPONS COME ON
How rude for him to say rolling 2's counts for the reroll of 1's because of the -1 effect, especially against a paper-armor army like Dark Eldar. This is why Space Marine players are annoying lol
AND THEN he got back his last Command Points after he failed to the Dark Eldar special ability to ruin the fall back and shoot, saying they'd just withdraw without shooting in that case?! COME ON!! WHERE IS THE HONOR OF THE DARK ANGELS?!
I simply get to around 5 minutes in to an episode then i have to close the video. I like the idea of the content but the play is so outrageously wrong it makes me cringe. Necromunda worked a lot better for me.
Loving lewlew and tom waffling on about vegetables in the background :D
You re-roll dice before modifiers. So if you have a -1 to hit, and can reroll 1's, you only reroll dice that show a 1 face. Reroll the 1's
Let's say that 1 goes to a 2
Now you have: 4, 2, 2, 3, 5, 6
Apply modifiers (-1)

Hit on 3+ = 3 hits
Explode on 1's = 2 dead boiis

I just want to add, from Designer's Commentary: "If a dice roll would be less than 1, count that result as a 1."
Zoggin eck, dat's confusin
Worth pointing out that when several models fire weapons like Plasma Guns you need to roll for each of their shots separately (though if it's 9 regular dudes an 1 leader, then you can fast-roll with the 9 regular dudes if it's just one shot each). If that is how the rule is in big 40k then I definitely prefer the rule from killteam where it is an unmodified roll of 1 that explodes.
Re-rolls before modifiers! He shouted at the screen, but no one heard...
ugh, my exact reaction too... I get that they may not have played many games yet, but there's some bad play going on in both games so far and I'm just squirming uncomfortably watching them.
“Anything that causes no arguments is the solution”
Truly worldly advice.
This series got me into Warhammer 40K, and I couldn't be happier it did. Deserves more views.
i feel so biased for this battle...my Azmodai model is sitting on my desk looking at me like "Don't you dare say those dark space elves look cool"
So happy they are doing more 40k!
Looks like Ben made a deal with the dice gods
I think the dice god felt sorry for him after rolling the best Objective point so far away from his army :p
Dice for the Dice god
Salt for his Salt throne?
No he's probably has fixed dice
Im hoping we get to see a Tau army at some point. I believe Sjin plays Tau?
As does Hulmes - though Sjin plays with the mechanised suit battlegroup, whilst Hulmes elected to go for a Firewarrior contingent under Farsight
Man, Ben's my favorite; it looks like a delight to play tabletop games with you. Such great sportsmanship even though he would have tabled Alex if the game went on. gg
It's nice to finally watch a game where both players actually have any idea of what they're doing
lewis vs duncan was not very fair. He just had foot soldiers while duncan had "I'll kill all your guys in 1 turn because of special stuff" rules and units vs lewis
Well Ben has nothing but infantry while Alex has 2 Planes, a Hover bike and a Barge yet this game was still really close
Obviously doesn't help when Lewis doesn't have a clue with what he's doing and Duncan is using old rules or not reading them properly... Also that damage allocation overflow...
ROLLS FOR THE ROLL GOD, DICE FOR THE DICE THRONE
Why is ben shit so op
Ben's dice are fire.
in all of the times I've seen Alex play these games, I don't think I've ever seen him get a lucky roll
like the Eldar player I was up against a couple of weeks ago... I've never seen so many 6's in one game :/
Nevermind, he had a beauty right at the end.
Except that shouldn't have been possible, advancing in 8th edition doesn't happen in shooting phase
Great game to watch looked a lot of fun, this and the necromunda videos have made my past week, sadly I only have an ork army these days but am working on a custom necromunda gang who if I ever get to finish will fight under the house orlock flag with the original book rules, thanks for sharing your video guy's.
Did anyone else pay more attention to Lewis and Tom’s conversation about veg more than the game after their break? >.
Because they were much louder than the guys talking about the game
Ahhh, such a relief that they flipped the tray x)
But now the dice roll off the edges!
Holy shit Alex won something?! Unheard of! also more warhammer plz!

I’ve got Khorne red (scab red) on the rims of my bases and it’s classy af
Rerolls are applied before any modifiers.
Goblin green rims on a red and white empire amry is the most nostalgic thing ever.
Loving this series. Keep up the good work, Battleboys! XD
Bring back Poker Night! Bring back Poker Night!
We want Poker Night!
- What do we want?
- Poker Night!
- When do we want it?
- As soon as possible please!
I vehemently disagree.
My favorite vegetable is french fries.
more 40K ! and more tom and lewis talking food. A Tom and Lewis cooking show !!
Shooting your own forces is such a Necron thing to say
13:51 I have been searching for 15 minutes, wth is petiqua? pettykwa? petit quoi?
If it's "petit quoi" ("a little somethin?") I'm imagining its just a fancy name what US groceries call "mixed vegetables," carrots, peas, & green beans? But no results are coming up for that phrase
Did we miss part of Alex's first turn
Keep it coming guys!!
All in favour of a league table
wow ben's rolls are amazing
Goblin Green bases... how 90's of them :D
This is great, but even better when watching at 1.5x speed.
2's will NEVER overheat plasma, only 1s, no matter what.
wrong
heh, ill be damned. Apparently +1 to hit modifiers will cancel a death on a roll of a 1, but a 2 with a -1 to hit also causes it. That's rather derpy.
learn yo shit. Boy.
Rude/10
just following your example. Dat edit tho.
Your forgetting your power from pain saves! :O
22:04
Where they get that dice tray?
For being a book rule group they need a lot of help
More! More Warhammer! maybe even possibly fantasy?
I was annoyed when Lewis said that the fence was worth 2 points its not! Its 4! They settled it last episode
Best game so far
Relics only cost a command if you have 2 of them
Normally what my friend and I do, is when it says -1 to hit, we just say that the target of the dice roll is higher, aka a 3+ to hit is now a 4+ to hit, and the dice facing of a 1 still does what it does. Same for making it +1 to hit, where 6's do something: only if the dice facing activates the ability
They will never see this, but hey.
But that's not what the rules say...
No, but I have the $90 rulebook, and it has bugger all in it, so we just do what makes sense
You've got a $90 rulebook and can't read the 8 pages that explains this?
@VeggieMight He means that the sum of the core rules is 8 pages. The rule describing how rerolls and modifiers interact is 2 lines.
medonoop thats basically what it does
ben makes me feel a certain way
Is it just me or does Alex keep forgetting to shoot and fight on his turns...
I think he also forgot his Dark Elder's Power from Pain rules, they get better every full turn that passes. Also all his infantry can ignore wounds on 6+. But lets be honest, Battleboys aren't known for remembering all the book rules.
I think they cut a good amount from the livestream, vod is probably still up from a few weeks agom
Even on minus one to hit natural ones still hurts the user.
Andreas Peahc that’s how I interpreted the rules. Over heat on natural 1’s
@@davidgregory4602 and 2's with a -1
B A T T L E B O Y S
Alex as usual rolls with terrible luck for most of the episode
Can you guys do more xcom the board game or star wars rebellion please?
WE ARE THE BATTLEBOYS! I dont identify as a battleboy but a battlegirl!
So you're a battleboi?
guy
in
real
life
problem solved!
Dante Fiore lol that would be a plot twist
Does anyone at the office play Adeptus Mechanicus?
no
Didn't someone mention Trott had an AM army in one of the painting videos? I may be wrong
I don't think anyone has one, but any of the imperials could ally them in if they choose to paint them up. Maybe Dunc or Ben will split the new forgebane box with Lewis.
Yay
Alex couldnt advance at the end of the game there.
ADVANCE HAPPENS ONLY IN THE MOVEMENT PHASE AND UNITS WHO ADVANCED CAN'T SHOOT UNLESS THEY HAVE ASSAULT WEAPONS
COME ON
Huh, nice
Tom Gear Nice
What have I done?
Why is ben shit so op
How rude for him to say rolling 2's counts for the reroll of 1's because of the -1 effect, especially against a paper-armor army like Dark Eldar. This is why Space Marine players are annoying lol
Lewis said it best "In that case, 1's would be 0's" but of course that was ignored. Rubbish.
AND THEN he got back his last Command Points after he failed to the Dark Eldar special ability to ruin the fall back and shoot, saying they'd just withdraw without shooting in that case?! COME ON!! WHERE IS THE HONOR OF THE DARK ANGELS?!
God I hope theres more balance incoming. Space Marines seem broken as shit.
10th like damn
I wanna see some emo person watching this video just rage out at all the stereotypes.
"Rage"? More like "be sad at all the stereotypes", right?
As a former emo now turned goth, I can say I giggled at all of the stereotypes. It wasn't far from what I was like when I was 15.
8th like
God this game is so badly written.
ALEX COULDN'T HAVE TAKEN THE FINAL OBJECTIVE WITH THAT ADVANCE
they also ended the game a turn early, chill my dude
I simply get to around 5 minutes in to an episode then i have to close the video. I like the idea of the content but the play is so outrageously wrong it makes me cringe. Necromunda worked a lot better for me.
alot easier to watch when you know 0 things about it for me lol
