Hands down the best video so far of this pedal 👏🏻 great tone (especially When I come Around, sounded almost identical) and nice to see how the controls behave. Great work man 👍🏻
You definitely won’t be disappointed. I find this pedal particularly inspiring to play through. Plus it just looks damn cool. Congrats and make some awesome music with it!
Dude.. I know I’m late to the party.. but this is LEGIT the BEST demo I have EVER seen!! Thank you for being so descriptive with what you did to achieve these tones!!
Outstanding. I'm not a Green Day fan but this pedal has so many great tones in it, I can see using it in all kinds of situations, from rock to fusion to metal, for lead and rhythm playing.
I already have a wampler plexi drive deluxe, but god damn that pedal artwork with the sound to match. This is the only mxr distortion that I’ve ever wanted/craved
Are you happy with the plexi drive? I liked the internal battery feature but I could not get very good tones out of the one I tried. I ended up with a tone city golden plexi and it does a thing. I'd trade all my drives and distortions in for this dookie pedal though lol
Vertebral Remains I am happy with the wampler plexi drive deluxe. I like old school Marshall distortion tones, so the plexi drive gets me there even when going into a clean channel. The dookie drive I would get only for a bit more of a “modern” sound. I am slowly building a physical pedalboard (I am sick of fighting with modelers). So far I have these pedals: Dunlop 95Q Digitech Whammy V Wampler plexi drive deluxe Bluguitar amp1 Pedals I want now include: Mxr dookie drive Boss sy-1
I've grown tired of distortion type pedals over the years and I've got more sitting in boxes in the closet than you can shake a stick at, but I really like the sound of this pedal. It's got a lot of good Marshally tones and riminds me of my old Carl Martin Plexitone and Radial Tonebone Plexitube pedals.
Great playing and demo. Had to hit this video just to agree with you. I almost wish there was no Green Day logo on the pedal so people wouldn't judge and skip it. What an amazing drive pedal for under $200.
Jared Burdick hey thanks a lot! Yeah people are really quick to judge this pedal without really listening because of the Dookie association. I just think it sounds like a good Marshall in a box. It’s very useful
That's what makes it exclusive. If people see the logo and skip it, tough for them. More for the Green Day fans and people who are willing to try it out. I got myself one the other day and I love it, not just because I'm a huge Green Day fan, but also because just like Billie Joe, I've been looking for that just raw rock tone and this pedal is pretty much what I've been wanting. Normally when I play my guitar, I just kind of stand there but with this pedal, I can't help but to get into whatever it is that I'm playing.
Glad to hear it! It’s a good rule of thumb for double tracking in general as well. Two different sounds will always sound bigger than two similar sounds
What this pedal, and its brother (FOD pedal), need is an expression-pedal slot so we can use the 'blend' mode using an expression pedal. I would definitely use the far left side for my rhythm parts, and for the solos, I'd use the far right side of the blend.
Is it ironic that I watch this as I take a dookie? I met EVH once in 1991in NYC at a bar. That was cool. I met Green Day in 1994 at Lollapalooza on Randalls island. Yes I am old.
@@JoeJulianoMusic I was 21 in 1994...good times... I actually started playing very late...It was Alice In Chains and Old Metallica that made me want to play...had no internet when I was young so lessons were out for my family...You play so good...You also might have a minor guitar addiction...lol, we all go through that..
Not a bad recreation of the album tone; missing a bit of the snarl, but Dookie was recorded in 1994 so perfectly capturing it is kinda pointless. I took a listen to the guitar master tracks for Basket Case and, at least to me, it sounds like quad-tracking with the mid-heavy guitars hard panned and the scooped guitars more towards the middle (still panned, but not as much.) In order to get the different feels in songs and parts it sounds like Rob Cavallo would just mix the levels on each track as needed.
Adam Parkin I ran it in front of the amp. I haven’t tried putting it through the fx loop yet. I guess if you wanted to use it as more of a preamp you could do that. I bet it would still sound pretty good. I will say I think it sounds best on a clean channel, I didn’t love it on a dirty channel
Yeah I figured it’s the most common way people would theoretically use the pedal. I haven’t played through a JCM 800 but I’d say if it takes other pedals well it should be good. When I tested the pedal it sounded best on clean to edge of breakup but not as good on an already overdriven channel
Santiago Vasquez basically yes but with the added bonus that it’s based off of two Marshalls and you can blend the two of them. Or just use one or the other. It’s all controlled via the “blend” knob
SuperPlushMarioYT this is what I found on Sweetwater: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DookieDriveV2--mxr-dd25-green-day-dookie-drive-v2-overdrive-pedal
I agree, really bizarre choice of music to play Green Day in order to demo the Dookie Drive. I would’ve gone with something more fitting like smooth jazz

Robert Wessel thanks! And yeah it’s basically two good Marshalls in a box with a good range of tones between them

@Todd Tomchek Lol the name itself is a reference to a green day song called F.O.D
But if there was no green day logo then green day wouldn't get more outage would they hmmm
@Todd Tomchek exept that FOD is the last song on dookies tracklist.
Did the thing you recommend with mixing the two different sounds and holy moly does it do wonders!
Glad to hear it! It’s a good rule of thumb for double tracking in general as well. Two different sounds will always sound bigger than two similar sounds
nice tone and nice ghoul's famous fantomen guitar ;)
This pedal sound like a classic Crunch Plexi marshall blending with JMC800 High Gain Marshall.
one of the best Overdrives and Distortions pedals
Rocking your smedium Green Day shirt from 12 years ago I see 🤣 sweet pedal demo too!
Nice tone dude!
I love this pedal so much. I really need to get one.
The expert of somebody's tone. Very very close.
Awesome!!
Nice review
Pressed like with one minute of video. One minute! (haha)
this is the best pedal in the world cuz it does what it says making your guitar sound like dookie
Luckily I was fortunate enough to order mine. They're selling like crazy!

i want one too ahah :) amazinggg
I need this.
I want it i need it
Good demo! What is the model and brand of the little camera and stand you have filming the pedal? Thanks
Jonathan Espeche thanks! I used a GoPro Hero 6 Black for the main shots and a GoPro Hero 4 Black for the pedal closeup
I did the dookie
I see you micd cab or did you run into speaker simulator ?
It was two mics on a cab
Great demo, I'm not a fan of the lead guitar playing de vocal melody but the tone is near perfect.
I thought it was cool
Pro medley bro.
Do I need a noise gate while I'm using this pedal?

Did you run the pedal through the input of the amp? How would you go about running it into say a jcm 800 2203? Ive been told fx loop in?
Adam Parkin I ran it in front of the amp. I haven’t tried putting it through the fx loop yet. I guess if you wanted to use it as more of a preamp you could do that. I bet it would still sound pretty good. I will say I think it sounds best on a clean channel, I didn’t love it on a dirty channel
Joe Juliano awesome, in front of the amp seems to be the popular choice. It will be running into a jcm 800
Yeah I figured it’s the most common way people would theoretically use the pedal. I haven’t played through a JCM 800 but I’d say if it takes other pedals well it should be good. When I tested the pedal it sounded best on clean to edge of breakup but not as good on an already overdriven channel
That’s exactly my question. Thank you.
@adam - how do you like your 800 2203?
What interface are you using to record the guitar please
I use the Focusrite Clarett 8PreX with the Clarett OctoPre
@@JoeJulianoMusic cool thank you
Just get that Friedman and the 4x12 cab and you will not have the need for any pedalb😁😄
So the dookie pedal is just a Marshall in a box pedal?
Santiago Vasquez basically yes but with the added bonus that it’s based off of two Marshalls and you can blend the two of them. Or just use one or the other. It’s all controlled via the “blend” knob
@@JoeJulianoMusic so would it be reasonable to buy this when i already have a plexi?
The pedal is still very much its own flavor. I actually think it sounds really good through my plexi
which drums her e?
phenix returns the actual drums from the songs
@@JoeJulianoMusic i talk about the vst
phenix returns it’s not a VST, it’s the actual drum tracks from Green Day
For solos that distortion sounds like a videogame, at least in this video
@@giorgioskb exactly, since Billie's solos are not that great. Most of the songs are just rythm and chords.
Sucks they only made 2000 and you can only get one on ebay now. :(
