Whenever I think of PSAs, I first think about some of the infamous ones by Autism Speaks. I Am Autism is one of them, where its footage of people in monochrome, with the voice of a man over the footage, saying stuff like "[autism] will ruin your marriage." Its been a minute, so I dont recall all that happened in the video. Its certainly not as creepy as some of the ones shown in this video, but for an ad about autism, it certainly feels like they are trying to focus on fear mongering tactics just like these ones.
Autism Speaks is scary not because their PSAs hold any truth but because it's a bunch of neurotypicals trying to cure and/or eradicate autistic people who have, repeatedly and openly, vocalized that we do not want to be cured. Nothing about us without us. The PSA itself is an open and blatant display that they do not actually care about "awareness" or whatever they promote during April. They do not want to help us.
that's how Autism Speaks is, they consider autism a disease that needs to be cured, focus on parents who hate their children for being different, and have no interest in the actual wellbeing of autistic people
My question is, what is the call to action there? Like autism isn't a drug that you can scare people off of; you can't prevent autism from being diagnosed in you and your kids. You either have autism or you don't. Is the message just give us your money and hope we can find a cause?
I really appreciate the "you don't need to subscribe just enjoy the video" thing, and after enjoying a few of your videos I ended up subscribing anyways, so it feels really nice to not be bothered about it. Hope to see more videos from you!

11:23 this reminds me of another PSA by a group called Haven that is even more disturbing. It is on domestic violence and features an actual 911 call, being from the daughter’s perspective.
That first PSA by Samaritans is inspired by Pink Floyd’s album, The Wall, and it even features a song from the album, called “Is there everybody out there”.‘ Its a good song. The album is very good too.
I remember watching a PSA in school about bullying where a kid was getting bullied and the end showed him lying in like a baby stroller thing which shows he comitted suicide, it gave me chills
i got shown that story abt janelle and michael in my forensics class, and it made me feel so awful cuz of how panicked they sounded. it was in a documentary that was being shown to us so i couldnt really leave ☹️
From what I’ve seen Canada, the UK, and Singapore have the most disturbing PSAs. They will straight up depict someone getting crushed to death, getting scalded with hot oil, or convulsing. 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇸🇬
The quality of your videos have increased so dramatically over the small time you’ve been uploading! Even your earlier content was class so this stuff is just amazing! I can’t wait to see you continue to grow
"Is there anyone out there"... my baby sitter used this psa to traumatize me when I was 4. She locked me in a dark room when this came on. I took my shoes off and they fell on her dog, so she told everyone I threw my shoes at the dog. This commercial came on and she shut off all the lights, grabbed the remote and locked me I the room alone with this ad. After the ad was over, she turned the TV off and kept me locked I the room until my mom got there. My mom wasn't there till the next day. I've thought of this day ever since and nobody believes me because they don't remember this ad. They all said I had a bad dream.
Hey this is my first time watching a video of yours, and I wanted to say 1. thank you for not yelling and keeping the audio levels relatively consistent, you have a very nice voice 2. excellent visuals, editing, and summaries 3. I really like your humor 4. subscribed, look forward to more!
I was living in Omaha at the time of Michael and Janelle's deaths. I still remember some of the 911 calls they made. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.
"Is there anyone out there" is a Pink Floyd usage and I LOVE IT GOD AGH and its specifically taken from The Wall (just a different stylization) and the entire film has a bunch of different things is comments about with a large amount of it focusing on mental health. I love it and the music is actually audio from the same song and JI love that. Anyways, I love Pink Floyd
I saw a PSA where it shows a mother shooting her kid, and the tagline was something along the lines of ‘not speaking up about gun violence is as bad as pulling the trigger yourself.’ Fucked me up for years. Still does to this day.
I enjoyed this video very much as someone who watches PSAs/PIFs as a weird hobby. I think probably one of the most disturbing ones I've ever seen was a film by the name of "Apatches", where a group of bri'ish kids die horribly from farming accidents, like drinking weed killer, drowning in a grain silo, and getting run over by a tractor. The kids literally watch their friends die and then they just move on and continue their game of Cowboys and Indians. Also, shout out to "The Finishing Line" for bring less of a PIF about train safety and more like a horror film with one of the most terrifying endings I've ever seen. It's funny how most PSAs tend to be more horrifying and disturbing than a good majority of high-budget horror films nowadays.
Drowning in a Grain Silo is a Legitimately common cause of death on Farms. It's more Common that people think and it's terrifying. NEVER go in a Grain Silo, even if you're a Farmer, it's NOT worth it.
I grew up in the 90's with insomnia and a tv addiction and NEVER saw the bear psa. I can't even imagine how they would have got that on any channel back then, even in between the old phone sex ads!
The "is there anybody out there" psa, I think samples a track from a Pink Floyd song of the same name, which is really interesting because the album it's taken from, The Wall is almost entirely about how dangerous making a mental wall to block out others is awful and isolating
There's a PSA i remember about a group of teenagers going to the beach to skip school or whatever, then one of them explodes because the beach was actually like a radioactive mine field, then screams could be heard while there was a white card at the end saying "don't skip school' or something, so that was weird
I remember watching one like that, a bunch of kids skip school and go to the beach without reading a warning sign. they fucking get blown to pieces one by one trying to escape after the first to die steps on one playing like beach volleyball or something. bloody hell was it creepy
I feel like the Australian and New Zealand road safety ads can be pretty disturbing, there's one that stuck with me for a long time of these teenage boys sinking in a car all trying to get out but one making his final call to his mother knowing he's most likely going to die
I remember two specific PSAs that either made me cry, or made me worry...(there's more btw, I just can't think of them rn) -The PSA about fires, with a sad song in the background, made me cry the first few times I saw it. (I was really young at the time, and I think it was an older Smokey the Bear one, it wasn't necessarily disturbing, it just made me sad lol) -And, the PSA about a girl who, if I remember correctly, became permanently disabled after a car accident, made me like really anxious.
I've been watching PSAs since I was a young teenager as a weird hobby, so this is almost nostalgic to me I've seen ones that have disturbed me more, honestly, though the PETA Bear PSA is definitely one of the most disturbing I've seen, I watched it in full ages ago and forgot its name, thank you for showing it so I could finally find it again lol Sunday Lunch by Crimestoppers is a very shocking one, Red Banana (can't remember who made it, just that it's from Italy) is one I can't even watch anymore, Shoeboxes by Africare(?) is also one I can't watch due to its disturbing twist, music and imagery combined and there's a South African(?) one called Baby Monitor that I don't recommend ANYONE watches, I recommend the rest though! I'd put any of those there as my most disturbing Also thank you for making that PSA on sleeping, so many people die in their sleep each year and we need to put an end to sleeping 😔 lmao Great video! I really enjoyed it
@@genesisjade Oh definitely, I watched it once with sound and never watched it again I've seen so many PSAs, many of them gory, but no amount of blood will be more disturbing than Baby Monitor is
Dude, you deserve so many more subs with the amount of effort that you're putting into your videos. I genuinely get happy whenever I get the notification that you posted a new video. Keep up the good work!
they had an anti-meth one that used to play a lot that was a parody of cleaning commercials with a catchy jingle. "I don't sleep, and I don't eat, but I got the cleanest house on the street! ohh meth, oooh meth!" it seems like they were trying to contrast it against the disturbing subject matter, but for that to work it needed to be way more disturbing, and while it was certainly memorable it made it very difficult to take seriously and it became a bit of a joke. ohhh meth, ooh meth!
There's one called Jacqueline that terrified the shit out of me as a kid. I didn't see the ad itself (cannot bring myself to watch even tho it's been a decade) but they had a poster at this gas station in my town. I feel bad bc it wasn't her fault but I was like, 11 when I saw it. I looked it up on RUclips and there was this weird video that showed graphic pics of her and it scared the shit out of me. Couldn't sleep without any kind of light in my room after that. Ironically I watch the weirdest shit online but somehow that managed to give me lifelong nighttime anxiety
The intro “PSA” made me cackle with the dont get caught lacking website Also my new favorite quote is “Nobody should do heroin because it will give you *Taco Bell Shits* “
there was a psa from the s*xl abuse towards the children and there was a woman in the kitchen, and had a baby monitor and you could hear the little girl get (you know what) by her dad or uncle but it's truly disturbing that psa
it wasnt too long ago there was an ad campaign called "little lungs in the big world" or something like that and i was scared to death of it. and im not usually scared of things like that!
the song "you always hurt the one you love" has always haunted me... like growing up, my pop would sing it creepily, then fear street used it, and now this? i hate that song with a burning passion. love the mills brothers, though, they're cool.
A radio station in my area broke down the Michael and Janelle phone call for multiple segments right after it happened speculating what they were hallucinating. I’ll never forget it. What a trip.
I watched the bear play by itself and it almost made me cry. Not because of the topic, but the pure HORROR of watching a man having to be strapped to a chair and having a METAL ROD thats ON FIRE shoved in his head. Sheesh, Peta. Chill out.
I remember there was this one psa from one truth or something like that, it was aired on RUclips ads. It had like 4 Teens being in this haunted house and one of the teens was locked in this room with a person who looked exactly like her but was drenched a bathtub fill with black water or blood and I forgot was happened to the other 3 kids but I know that one of them escaped.
That second one is honestly how it feels sometimes, despite how corny it may be. Sometimes it feels like I just can't speak coherently when I need to vent, like I know what I need to say and how I'm feeling but I just can't get the words out
This really brought to light and somewhat proved that PSAs are extremely over the top for no reason and unbelievably unreasonable. Also loved the vid! You have a new sub
Diarrhoea is actually correct. It’s apparently the British spelling counterpart to our American spelling of diarrhea (honestly I thought it was just the medically correct spelling but we learn something new every day)
The "is anybody out there" one must be a spin on Pink Floyd's album and movie, The Wall. That audio is from one of his songs. It is absolutely mental health related, especially if you've seen the movie and know what it's about. So that one isn't really all that disturbing. It's just real. It's the reality of depression.
I love the reference from the Pink Floyd move the Wall! They translated the infamous part of that animation pretty well! The Album is also about mental health and isolation from others
I remember a series of PSAs (Meth: Not Even Once) that on RUclips are only listed by the victim's names. They show locations and say "this is where ______" One part in one of them that I vividly remember is "this was the place she was r*ped by her dealer" while hearing ambience and (I think) whimpering. That shit sticks with you.
There was a British psa about train safety, there was a family playing I spy, and the daughter revealed her word was train, whilst standing on a train track, and then she gets hit. Yeah that one gave me nightmares as a kid
Probably already posted before, but one time I saw this PSA about keeping your guns safely locked away, and it's this father banging on his child's door sobbing, telling him not to [unalive] himself. It was horrifying.
There's a few RUclips channel dedicated to weird and creepy PSA's (heads up England has so many fucked up weird PSAs). But the one that I remember the most is this one PETA one where its showing a bunch of clips of people yelling and screaming out as they're getting hurt (like an old lady is getting mugged kinda hurt) and then it cuts to a fish opening its mouth and it says something like 'fish can't scream'. Yeah that one was rough.
honestly; the PSA's i remember Vividly are the early psa's released by the real cost, I was a kid around the time they started airing on the Tv, i'm about 18 now and i can say that the earlier psa's(and the ones revolving around dip) had a lotta impact compared to the ones now
I think most disturbing PSA (or i guess commercial, i dont know what these are counted as) was a video by Autism Speaks. I dont think they ever showed it on a broadcast (for obvious reasons) but it made me cry really badly as somebody with asd. The video was a man talking with a dark demonic voice and saying stuff like “i am autism, i spread faster than cancer, i will take your children, i will make you bankrupt” I kept screaming inside my head “THIS IS NOT ME, THIS IS NOT ME, THIS CANT BE ME”.
They do not want to help us.
lol im 99.9% sure im autistic and that psa is so goofy, like bro I'm not a spooky monster that's gonna kill kids my brain is just a bit different
that's how Autism Speaks is, they consider autism a disease that needs to be cured, focus on parents who hate their children for being different, and have no interest in the actual wellbeing of autistic people
My question is, what is the call to action there? Like autism isn't a drug that you can scare people off of; you can't prevent autism from being diagnosed in you and your kids. You either have autism or you don't. Is the message just give us your money and hope we can find a cause?
I really appreciate the "you don't need to subscribe just enjoy the video" thing, and after enjoying a few of your videos I ended up subscribing anyways, so it feels really nice to not be bothered about it. Hope to see more videos from you!
YES
Same that was really nice
Reverse psychology
Yah another RUclipsr i know called Smii7y does a similar thing. He goes "if this isn't your first video you seen by me, why not subscribe? Consider you'll be sticking around"
9:13 some people spell it as diarrhoea. I know it's spelt like that in England (foetus and oestrogen instead of fetus and estrogen)
2:46 my favorite thing about your videos is that you always have a joke for serious situations
I literally went from having goosebumps to laughing
Literally the cube
11:23 this reminds me of another PSA by a group called Haven that is even more disturbing. It is on domestic violence and features an actual 911 call, being from the daughter’s perspective.
link?
That first PSA by Samaritans is inspired by Pink Floyd’s album, The Wall, and it even features a song from the album, called “Is there everybody out there”.‘ Its a good song. The album is very good too.
I remember watching a PSA in school about bullying where a kid was getting bullied and the end showed him lying in like a baby stroller thing which shows he comitted suicide, it gave me chills
I wonder what it was called?
i love that feeling when i discover a youtuber
i got shown that story abt janelle and michael in my forensics class, and it made me feel so awful cuz of how panicked they sounded. it was in a documentary that was being shown to us so i couldnt really leave ☹️
From what I’ve seen Canada, the UK, and Singapore have the most disturbing PSAs. They will straight up depict someone getting crushed to death, getting scalded with hot oil, or convulsing. 🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇸🇬
yes! south africa have the baby monitor psa which is gross asf so they r definitely good at making them
That PSA about signing a contract when you start smoking stuck with me MY WHOLE LIFE
I remember watching the Sandy Hook Promise PSA about a school shooting and it is scary. It is very intense and goes from 0 to 100 really quick.
The quality of your videos have increased so dramatically over the small time you’ve been uploading! Even your earlier content was class so this stuff is just amazing! I can’t wait to see you continue to grow
the ones where the guy pulls out his teeth for a cigarette and the lady explains how she showers haunt me.
What made the scream part worse was having the subtitles on RUclips thought it was music and applause
That’s awful
What an asshole, sorry you went through that
Your babysitter is genuinely psychopathic wtf
Hey this is my first time watching a video of yours, and I wanted to say
1. thank you for not yelling and keeping the audio levels relatively consistent, you have a very nice voice
2. excellent visuals, editing, and summaries
3. I really like your humor
4. subscribed, look forward to more!
I was living in Omaha at the time of Michael and Janelle's deaths. I still remember some of the 911 calls they made. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.
The "Is There Anybody Out There" is a scene from Pink Floyd's The Wall movie and is part of The Wall album as well
None of these will ever top the first time I saw the ‘you wouldn’t steal a’ anti piracy ad
The way the guy presses against the wall immediately made the think about that scene from nightmare on elm Street
I saw a PSA where it shows a mother shooting her kid, and the tagline was something along the lines of ‘not speaking up about gun violence is as bad as pulling the trigger yourself.’ Fucked me up for years. Still does to this day.
I saw that! She took the gun out of her purse!
Shot her kid at a table of her other children
The most effective psa I have seen is "depression doesn’t always look suicidal" it makes me cry no matter what.
you seem like the kinda guy who'd be incredibly fun to just chill and play video games with lmao
Exactly
PSA’s have scared me more than most “scary” movies I’ve watched
I watched that one and had to stop when the kid drank the weed killer. The screaming made me sick to my stomach.
Drowning in a Grain Silo is a Legitimately common cause of death on Farms.
It's more Common that people think and it's terrifying.
NEVER go in a Grain Silo, even if you're a Farmer, it's NOT worth it.
There's one called stop the horror and it literally shows a man dying from cancer and how hard it is for him, his family, and even his nurse
I grew up in the 90's with insomnia and a tv addiction and NEVER saw the bear psa. I can't even imagine how they would have got that on any channel back then, even in between the old phone sex ads!
god i forgot about the phone sex ads
I'm sorry but the "Scream" PSA is extremely funny because I can't help but be reminded of the Tiktok trend of lipsyncing to random noises
The sound of you saying "but PERA is f*cking WEIIIIRD" will forever be in my brain now
your content is way too good for just 82k subscribers. One of the most underrated channels I've stumbled upon.
as someone who sleeps all the time i can confirm that i also do the ghost trick pose everytime before i wake up
imagine seeing the very first PSA and being confused & scared abt what is on your TV 💀
I think the text was more along the lines of "this is what happens when you slack off"? that one got me tho
I feel like the most part (well the PSA’s I’ve seen in Australia) are generally not too bad. Especially compared to other countries.
I've seen that one! It's actually so good tho. I think it's called "yes mum" or something
@@campediem thanks, that's the one, I remember seeing it when it was on tv years ago it's been stuck in my head since
@@doopyzoopy7125 it's alright! ^-^
I remember two specific PSAs that either made me cry, or made me worry...(there's more btw, I just can't think of them rn)
-The PSA about fires, with a sad song in the background, made me cry the first few times I saw it. (I was really young at the time, and I think it was an older Smokey the Bear one, it wasn't necessarily disturbing, it just made me sad lol)
-And, the PSA about a girl who, if I remember correctly, became permanently disabled after a car accident, made me like really anxious.
I've been watching PSAs since I was a young teenager as a weird hobby, so this is almost nostalgic to me
I've seen ones that have disturbed me more, honestly, though the PETA Bear PSA is definitely one of the most disturbing I've seen, I watched it in full ages ago and forgot its name, thank you for showing it so I could finally find it again lol
Sunday Lunch by Crimestoppers is a very shocking one, Red Banana (can't remember who made it, just that it's from Italy) is one I can't even watch anymore, Shoeboxes by Africare(?) is also one I can't watch due to its disturbing twist, music and imagery combined and there's a South African(?) one called Baby Monitor that I don't recommend ANYONE watches, I recommend the rest though!
I'd put any of those there as my most disturbing
Also thank you for making that PSA on sleeping, so many people die in their sleep each year and we need to put an end to sleeping 😔 lmao
Great video! I really enjoyed it
I just looked up a description of baby monitor and I'm already traumatized man
@@Bacon-ys2xi I'm so sorry for even mentioning it, it's definitely the worst one I've ever watched
I’ve watched Baby Monitor without sound and it was already pretty creepy, but I will NEVER watch it with sound. That’s where the true horror lies.
@@genesisjade Oh definitely, I watched it once with sound and never watched it again
I've seen so many PSAs, many of them gory, but no amount of blood will be more disturbing than Baby Monitor is
No excuses and Jaquelin are both depressing in their own ways
Bro I found that through a RUclipsr I like and now it’s an inside joke in my friend group
I like how the most replayed part of this video is people skipping peta 💀
There's one called Jacqueline that terrified the shit out of me as a kid. I didn't see the ad itself (cannot bring myself to watch even tho it's been a decade) but they had a poster at this gas station in my town. I feel bad bc it wasn't her fault but I was like, 11 when I saw it. I looked it up on RUclips and there was this weird video that showed graphic pics of her and it scared the shit out of me. Couldn't sleep without any kind of light in my room after that. Ironically I watch the weirdest shit online but somehow that managed to give me lifelong nighttime anxiety
Can’t believe RT was caught lackin’
The intro “PSA” made me cackle with the dont get caught lacking website
Also my new favorite quote is
“Nobody should do heroin because it will give you *Taco Bell Shits* “
there was a psa from the s*xl abuse towards the children and there was a woman in the kitchen, and had a baby monitor and you could hear the little girl get (you know what) by her dad or uncle but it's truly disturbing that psa
IShowSpeed made me learn to not light a firework in a house. Ever. One of the best PSA's I swear.
it wasnt too long ago there was an ad campaign called "little lungs in the big world" or something like that and i was scared to death of it. and im not usually scared of things like that!
11:11 "Guinea pig" is slang for "test subject."
woosh
@@whattabirb637 its with 4 o
I'm really glad you included the scream psa! I've been looking for it forever!!
i love seeing how fast ur channel is growing! so glad i found your channel
I love how “Diarrhoea” is “Darrow Hawaii” in the subtitles
I already knew that it was gonna be a banger video when I saw the thumbnail. Keep up the good work man!
the song "you always hurt the one you love" has always haunted me...
like growing up, my pop would sing it creepily, then fear street used it, and now this? i hate that song with a burning passion. love the mills brothers, though, they're cool.
The transitions are smooth and funny as hell how you got the psa's spot on😂 and u always bring sum up I never seen or heard of 👍🏻💯
Pita goes disrespectfully hard to make a point
A radio station in my area broke down the Michael and Janelle phone call for multiple segments right after it happened speculating what they were hallucinating. I’ll never forget it. What a trip.
Love you man good job as always
Glad to see this guy get more deserved attention, great vid!
I watched the bear play by itself and it almost made me cry. Not because of the topic, but the pure HORROR of watching a man having to be strapped to a chair and having a METAL ROD thats ON FIRE shoved in his head. Sheesh, Peta. Chill out.
It's fake they're not allowed to actually do that lol
Like horror movies
I remember there was this one psa from one truth or something like that, it was aired on RUclips ads. It had like 4 Teens being in this haunted house and one of the teens was locked in this room with a person who looked exactly like her but was drenched a bathtub fill with black water or blood and I forgot was happened to the other 3 kids but I know that one of them escaped.
I also do recall seeing that, it was made by The Real Cost for halloween (i think??)
That second one is honestly how it feels sometimes, despite how corny it may be. Sometimes it feels like I just can't speak coherently when I need to vent, like I know what I need to say and how I'm feeling but I just can't get the words out
Love your videos, definitely deserves more and more attention. I'd love to see your take on an even creepier type vibe
The editing of your videos is just out of this world! You truly deserve an award!
It's the reality of depression.
really glad for the lighthearted intermissions between psas it really helped to lighten the mood
I love the reference from the Pink Floyd move the Wall! They translated the infamous part of that animation pretty well! The Album is also about mental health and isolation from others
Thank goodness! I’m so hype for the new geen screen.
I remember a series of PSAs (Meth: Not Even Once) that on RUclips are only listed by the victim's names. They show locations and say "this is where ______"
One part in one of them that I vividly remember is "this was the place she was r*ped by her dealer" while hearing ambience and (I think) whimpering.
That shit sticks with you.
that "scream" ad was kinda hillarious
like imagine if someone replaced the screaming with spongebob saying "spongebob!"
4:17 so happy the marble hornets crew got to work on a mental health project
I have no idea why but I LOVE psa’s. There’s a bunch of compilations on RUclips and some of them are so messed up
the psa era of youtube that took place mid last year will never be replicated
POV: you got shot in the leg but was also lagging
There was a British psa about train safety, there was a family playing I spy, and the daughter revealed her word was train, whilst standing on a train track, and then she gets hit. Yeah that one gave me nightmares as a kid
Love your psa at the end. Last night I had a seizure in my sleep and was diagnosed epileptic today and your psa is 1000% right, never sleeping again 💯
That first PSA is throwing some serious Nightmare On Elm Street vibes
That was my fist reaction no cap
I love the semi-formal style you make, where you say serious things but make funny edits
Probably already posted before, but one time I saw this PSA about keeping your guns safely locked away, and it's this father banging on his child's door sobbing, telling him not to [unalive] himself. It was horrifying.
Have you seen the Africare Shoeboxes add? Genuinely chilling
Fun Fact: 100% of people who sleep will experience death atleast once in their life. STOP. SLEEPING. WAKE. UP.
honestly; the PSA's i remember Vividly are the early psa's released by the real cost, I was a kid around the time they started airing on the Tv, i'm about 18 now and i can say that the earlier psa's(and the ones revolving around dip) had a lotta impact compared to the ones now
I think most disturbing PSA (or i guess commercial, i dont know what these are counted as) was a video by Autism Speaks. I dont think they ever showed it on a broadcast (for obvious reasons) but it made me cry really badly as somebody with asd.
The video was a man talking with a dark demonic voice and saying stuff like “i am autism, i spread faster than cancer, i will take your children, i will make you bankrupt”
I kept screaming inside my head “THIS IS NOT ME, THIS IS NOT ME, THIS CANT BE ME”.
I feel bad for any children with asd who have parents that listen to this group, i hope those children are doing well nowadays
