Loved everything especially the skirts…must get the machine out and start sewing again..lost my mojo for sewing, but after seeing the items that you took on holiday has inspired me to get sewing. I’ve put loads of weight on due to the lockdown, couldn’t be bothered to sew because I’m disgusted with myself and the weight. Now, I think “blow the weight” and sew a complete new wardrobe with my more plentiful look. Thanks Lucy..your a star ⭐️ my favourite sewing lady.
Thank you so much for your lovely kind words and I couldn't agree more just go for it and sew yourself some lovely new garments, you will have so much fun making and wearing them.
you will feel so much better when you have nice collection that fits you and makes you look wonderful. So many of us say "I don't want to sew for this body" but after such a dreadful year we shouldn't be harsh on ourselves x
I love that you use a lot of Big 4 patterns. I find a lot of other vloggers kind of turn their noses up at using them. I love having a me made wardrobe for holidays. Your choices were spot on.
Thank you so much Jennett, yes I do love the big 4 I just feel like they give me so many more options and choices. Thanks for your kind words about my handmade wardrobe.
I’m returning to sewing my own wardrobe after a hiatus while raising 4 children (yeah, about 25 years) … and I’m now confused about the difference between Misses and Women’s sizes. Can you simplify the distinction for me? Sizing and fitting is my biggest bugaboo and I’d love to be clear on this.
Great wardrobe. I respect your talent snd hard work. Q&A: Do you have a sewing routine? Are you a sewer in stages, cut out a couple items today, sew a bit tomorrow an next day sn get done, or start an finish in one day? Do you sew in morning, afternoon or evening? What days sn time slots are you most apt to get about sewing? Do you have any certain routine that helps you get going an quit dreaming? Your productive!
Thank you for sharing this lovely video with us Lucy. I bought a lot of fabric from your website this week and am very pleased with the quality so plan to get more. Could you please advise in one of your Q&A videos how to decide how much fabric to buy when patterns only quote 115 & 150 cm and lots of fabrics are 110 cm, 140 cm & 145 cm, is there an easy way to do this without having too much wastage. Thank you.
I’ve never sewn before but this video has inspired me. Im expecting a little one in January so would love to see what babygrow patterns you would recommend or a tutorial on baby items. Or any maternity clothes patterns. Thanks for such a bubbly and fun video.
Lovely selection of practical clothing to take away on your holiday Lucy, great choice. I am the same when it comes to just going away for 2 days always take too much "just in case of" clothing I call it. Look forward to all the questions in next video.
As a beginner sewer, I really enjoy watching your videos. Very inspirational and relatable. I particularly agree with your suggestion to be experimental with colours. My go to colours were always black, brown and navy! As I have grown older, I find that a pop of colour really lifts an outfit... and mood! 😊
It’s got to be linen shorts, in as many candy colours as possible! I’ve only got round to making navy blue and a John Louden turquoise with Koi Carp design though. I adore the John Kaldor yellow / mustard crepe de chine in the Simplicity pattern. So very versatile: you can wear it out to dinner, going to the supermarket, for a stroll along the river or around an historic house, or puttering in the garden….
It was really fun to see your capsule holiday wardrobe. I’m just about to go on a family holiday in Wales so I’ve taken note. I try not to over pack as it ends up making me feel fed up but when it’s the UK obviously you need all sorts of clothes. As I feel the cold a lot I’m likely to want things to keep me warm (in case) I will have to think very carefully and it’s only a week after all! 😊
Your capsule wardrobe is beautiful and very inspiring 💕 I definitely agree with you, sewing your own clothes encourages colour experimentation - who would have known I could look nice in something other than black 😉
Love the ruffle on the last blouse. Seems easy enough to add to the yoke. I'm curious as to how you did the collar. Can you share how you did that? Did you just replace the plain color with a ruffle? Thanks - videos are great!
Great holiday clothes Lucy. I'm going on a staycation next week and cant decide what to take so that info was great. Could I ask how much are you influenced by the high street when you want inspiration for your hand made garments. Also would you consider doing an over 50's pattern pairing vlog anytime. I want to look reasonably current but sometimes find some indie patterns seem too young for me (66) or they are all very boxy loose styles.
Great selection of Clothes Lucy. I am inspired but a total beginner. If you are happy to talk about what you did before this, did you work in the fashion industry ?
Lovely holiday wardrobe! For the Q & A How do you find time to fit sewing in around your family, any tips? Do you sew for others or are you a selfish sewer like me? X
Lovely video, Lucy! I'd like to know, if you're comfortable telling us, whether you were already a sewist before you got married, or whether you got into sewing under the influence of your mother-in-law. Looking forward to the Q&A 😊
I've decided to travel light, too. For flights, I will only take carry-on luggage. So I will take less but I need to also limit myself to lightweight fabrics, so no jeans. Can you talk about fabrics, knits and wovens, that are light in weight?
Lovely wardrobe. Especially love the last blouse!! Q&A question: I’m an average sewer looking to sew my first pair of pants/ trousers with a waistband and zipper, not elastic waist. What pattern would you recommend either Indie or big 4?
May I please ask another question? Should I be pre-washing fabrics before cutting out? I have read so many different suggestions, what do you recommend please?
Thank you sharing. Great wardrobe. Question. I measure 2x me and the pattern and the end result is the outfit is too big. This happens with linen and denim. I have put twill in the waistband but no difference. Suggestions?
Question: Here in the US, Big 4 patterns regularly go on sale for $1-$2. Does that every happen in the UK or do you guys have to always pay full price?
Thank you Lucy, you're so inspiring. I notice you sometimes make modifications to necklines. Could you explain how you do this on the relevant pattern pieces to achieve the desired look and to ensure it all fits together well?
That floral blouse is amazing.
Thank you Lucy. A lovely selection of clothes for your staycation and I am feeling very inspired! Grace
Very nice! Love the added ruffles to the final blouse. Looks great!
Flowery blouse is perfect
The wrap skirts are very nice.

Thanks so much for all your hard work doing the show and tell. Loved them all.
Lots of ideas for a capsule wardrobe, thanks!
I have simplicity 8982- it's so pretty! I've had it for a while...Now I just need to get it made! You inspired me to get moving.

Loved this, thank you so much for sharing!! Really helpful.

Thank you. Would it be possible at some point for Lucy to show us how to alter paper pattern pieces to fit as per the Palmer/Pletsch method?

Adding lining?? Could you do a video on how you added a lining to Simplicity 8606??
I too would like to know how to do this. Thank you.

Great video Lucy. Just wondered if you ever make clothes for your children?

Hi Lucy, in your Q&A will you please discuss interfacing son blouse collar patterns also trouser fitting.
Thank you sharing. Great wardrobe. Question. I measure 2x me and the pattern and the end result is the outfit is too big. This happens with linen and denim. I have put twill in the waistband but no difference. Suggestions?

Is it possible to buy the fabric you made the romper out of?
Have you got the right number pattern for the McCalls wrap skirt because I keep linking with a jacket & trouser pattern? Grace
Do you mean the New Look pattern, as I have now corrected the link in the description (whoops!)
O
Um, I ALWAYS take too many shoes / sandals (to vary the dresses / skirts / trousers, you understand!) 🤣
