Hi Jesse. THANKS for introducing folks to this beautiful art form. I have been collecting and displaying Suiseki rocks for the last 30 plus years ... as well as being a "hound". The study of Suiseki is a fascinating one with many rules, categories and styles based on centuries of contemplation and study. One can only scrap the surface even after years of practice. Dude Nate I couldn’t have expected but also been more humbled by this comment from you mate. Seriously, if there’s a rockhound on this platform that embodies true appreciation for nature and “flow” I think everyone watching would agree that we’d be hard pressed to find anyone more perfect than you man. So I’m saying that, just thank you. I’m not worthy brother. I wish I lived near you dude. I reckon we’d have some nuts convos over playin with rocks. I frikin wish that was the reality bro. It’s not, and I’m okay with that, but only cause I know I get to have at the least, this connection with you. I’m so sorry for the late response man. I struggle sometimes with social media and maintaining it. But I’d be a lier if I didn’t say I’d be less lonely amongst it if it weren’t for you dude.
Man that is so cool!!! I have never heard of suiseki and can tell im gonna go down a rabbit hole looking this stuff up!😄 man Australian walnut!! That is one gorgeous flippin piece of wood! As a wood enthusiast i totally know what you mean, i definitely talk about wood the same way i talk about rocks😂 i was just drooling over that thing😂 and i totally feel the struggle on shaping; walnut is some STURDY stuff🤣 i love the texture you put on though, that wavy texture and then not extending the sand all the way out makes it look like a beach leading up to an ancient basalt boulder! Awesome idea man! Fantastic video as always and thank you so much for being a part of the challenge brother!!😄
Dude I’m so glad you liked it, as much as it’s probably one of the simplest forms of appreciating a rock, I was so stressed about how it would turn out. Haha! I can breath now. Especially since Anthony pretty much gave me that beautiful piece of wood and then I realised how much it was worth, AND I was working on it with a dremel!?! It was intense to say the least. I’m just grateful for what you’ve inspired in all of us who participated but also those who are watching. You’re a good man Theo. One of the finest I’ve met. 🙏✨
Beautiful! Love the history of the walnut. As a luthier and a guy that's had the privilege of working with wood for over 50 years, I understand the respect for the resource. Having the privilege of turning precious stuff like Hawaiian Koa or Brazilian rosewood into something that will bring enjoyment for decades is, in a way, a sacred trust. That plank of walnut is now in the same category. Thanks for doing this!
Oh my goodness! Mr Kellison!!!!!!! To have you say that is truely an honour! Truely! I honestly was a bit worried that true wood appreciators may have thought I butchered it, but I feel a lot better now. And also I just want to say, your son is such a genuinely amazing man. Not just because of all his talents, but because of his massive heart, and his ability to show it and share it with so many people. You and his mother must be so proud. He’s a good man. A very good man.
Oh no way! Kate that is awesome! Honestly, it’s way less time than polishing haha! But I want to make one with the Diaza, the wood that it sits in. Unfortunately, that’s going to take a bit more wood work knowledge for me. I’m keen though! Haha! Kate I loved your project and I love that it took another passion of yours and coupled it with rocks. They’re just beautiful!
One of my subscribers suggested I buy a book on suiseki a few years ago, and I did. I have yet to tackle making one though. Like you, I get out looking for rocks and get completely distracted by all the pretty rocks and I forget to look for something just for this purpose. My plan is like yours was, to carve out an indentation in the wood to perfectly fit the stone. I imagine it being as hard as it looked like it was for you. I need to make this a goal for this summer: to find a suiseki rock. After that, I'll put off actually carving the wood for a few more years, probably. Your project turned out amazing. I love the wax finish on your base. That really brought out the color. I used tung oil for a project once that gave a really nice, more natural finish than polyurethane does. Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh what! Man Rob that is so cool! I actually found this rock before I even knew rockhounding was a thing. But then I never got around to actually doing it. Man, the carving of the Diaza, the wooden thing that the rock is sunk into, is so confusing to my brain. I’m going to get it one day, but I reckon given how you did the crazy rolling rock thing, you’d be able to figure it out. I totally urge you to try it! They’re beautiful to look at and also, then you can tell me how to carve the Diaza. Honestly though man, that rock you made was so up my ally for something to play with. And you nailed it!
@@Rookie_Rockounding I'll let you know if I ever make one. Actually, I'm sure there will be a video of it because we're always looking for a new video idea, aren't we?

That is absolutely beautiful. To me, it looks a bit like a petrified ogre head on a platter. You hit a camera angle, and I saw it. I absolutely love it. I used to hunt jade. There were pieces I found that would be perfect for this. They were beat up and not good for much. As far as carving, or jewelry. But beautiful none the less. I wish I would have known about this 20 years ago. I had ideas about rough jade and manzanita burl. Wish I would have done it. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

That is so you, Mr. Rookie. It looks like a black lake. I love the rock a lot. All soft and bubbly at the same time. I think I will try this with one of the rocks from my mom's rock garden that I absconded with after she passed. Well done, Mr. Rookie, well done.
Oh Roxanna! Yes! Please do, it’s super simple compared to how I made it look. Even find a flat pretty dish place the rock and put sand or pebbles or even water in there and you’ll be amazed at how the rock repays you with it’s proud position on display. It’s like the rock is standing there with its chest out all happy to finally be adored. 😊
I was cringing at the wood butchery then a good neighbor helped out. IMO though, this really BIG success came from attention to even the smallest of obscure details. It'll be plenty worthy to be in the vicinity of that awesome bonsai when it matures...
Oh man yes! I absolutely know what you mean. I had a stunning piece of wood and went at it with a dremel!?!? Haha! I made a promise to myself that I’ll show the bonsai completed, when I gain the skills to create a Diaza for another Suiseki in the future. It’s gonna happen. 😬🤞hopefully 🤞🤞🤞🤞
@@Rookie_Rockounding It wasn't the Dremel - that's a good tool. You need some decent power carving burrs and some practice carving projects under your belt is all. That's gorgeous! I remember watching a k-drama where the husband was obsessed with these & it was a hilarious bone of contention with him vs his family. In the end it was absolutely heart warming plot twist. He was angry about a death in their family & he had picked up the rock to throw it but remembered something happy instead so he kept the rock. Then he started collecting them from places where they had happy memories as a family. I didn't know about them until I saw the show & lemme tell you as a rock hound I found it to be profoundly compelling. Secretly been making my own collection of these viewing stones myself. Oh man I swear, just get yourself one of them and you will find a hobby that is different to rockhounding but kinda the same. In the sense of appreciating nature. But with bonsai it’s a continuous attention. It’s my other love I reckon haha! Still, I freakin reckon your lure was brilliant!!!!
It looks so beautiful and peaceful, like all of it was meant to be together in just that specific way.😍 Amazing job Jesse! Thank you for sharing this video!✌️🤠

Your wood treatment was both reverant and inspired and the rock you chose was quite stunning. BTW, Basalt is one of a small number of types of stones used in Suiseki work.
Congratulations on the end result...the implied (and real), space, the spirit and flow/ energy of rock and wood created a sense of calm.

Beautiful! Great job! 🥰
I think the rock is so pretty. Love that piece of wood. You have talent for unusual projects and I love it! Great job.
Thank you Denise 😊🙏
Very nice 👍 it reminds me of a zen garden or something 🍻 can't wait to see the bonsai tree as well, I love those and I want to start that hobby too.
@@Rookie_Rockounding thanks brother and happy birthday 🎉🍻
That’s absolutely gorgeous just the way you did it, moss was nice touch.
It looks so beautiful and peaceful, like all of it was meant to be together in just that specific way.😍 Amazing job Jesse! Thank you for sharing this video!✌️🤠

Oh thank you so much Barbara, it was a pretty special piece to me and a long time in the making. Even longer than I’ve been a rockhound 😊
Awesome Stone! I have a huge piece of river tumbled Jasper that I want yo do this technique with. Thanks for the inspiration!!

Absolutely stunning, calms me to see such care taken to make something so nice.
Thank you, I’m so glad it’s had it’s desired affect 😊
Beautiful, love to story to explain the concept. Great way to showcase rocks. Breaking the rules is always good in my book with art.
Terimakasih info cara bikin tatakan batu SUISEKI sangat bermanfaat sekali
Astonishing display of a suiban. Bringing the life of the wood together with the stone and moss is sheer brilliance! May your inner peace be fulfilled.

You’re such a beautiful soul. And you’re just adorable!! I love you’re creative approach to projects. You’ve taught me something today that I will carry on to my own projects. I am creating a meditation space soon and I think I will create my own viewing stone for it. You always bring the peace. ✌️🥰
That is wonderful! So simple a design but gorgeous! I love the basalt rock! It actually looks like a face to me!
What a wonderful art form!
The rock looks like a space turd from the Apollo 13 mission. They were the turd mission to land on the moon. Jj its looks amazing bro! 🤣
Bahahaha! Dude! That’s the best! “The turd mission…” haha!
A very cool project!
I would like to say Thank You.
There are many, many rock hounding U tubers out ,but in my opinion your at the top.
Your spark ,curiosity, wonder, and respect for the nature around comes thru on your filming . I feel as if I'm a part of it all.
Thank You for You ,and sharing your adventures ..
Absolutely stunning. I love every aspect of it. The wood is so beautiful. The contrast in colors and textures is just gorgeous. You can feel the piece. It takes you places deep within. Just perfection. Amazing work Jess. Now that's talent.
Oh my goodness that makes me so happy Donna! That’s exactly it’s purpose, and to know you felt that through a video of it just makes me feel like I did it justice. 😊
I now want to learn more about it, and making them. I did watch the video on the history. It's just so awesome. Yes you did it true justice my friend. A lot has to do with how you talk, your demeanor, tone of voice, just everything. You have a calming speaking voice when you are explaining things in your videos, when it's just you. I also love your fun side when you are with your mates. You are just an all around awesome man. Keep up the amazing videos. I look forward to the next one. Lots of love bud. ❤️
@@donnalantz7981 ohhhhhhh that’s so cool! You watched that video! It’s amazing right. It’s like the first documented case of a rock addiction haha! But seriously it’s a pleasing different take on appreciating stones.
Thank you so much for being so kind Donna. I tried so hard to explain what that other video did but I had to edit it out because I couldn’t fully do it justice. So it’s heart warming to know you felt the Suiseki was worthy 😊🙏
I truly enjoy all your videos Jess. I feel like I'm right there with you . I wow and get super excited right with you. My husband will look at me like I'm crazy at times when I'm watching you and getting so excited out loud when you find spectacular finds. You have taught me a lot as well. Someday I would love to meet you just to say thank you in person. I have met Michigan Rocks ,😀, just missed meeting Agate Dad by a few miles while in Minnesota on vacation.😪 one of these days I will make it to Montana and meet several rockhounders I watch from there. I haven't been able to get out and do much rockhounding do to health reasons in the last year. I'm hoping I will be able to this year, not looking too promising at the moment. So I just live vicariously through you and my other favorite rockhounders here on RUclips. LOL.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL, I love the shape of that rock and your choice of wood and it's History makes this piece even more special and beautiful than ever. Bravo on your challenge piece sir 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤.
Very Zhen and a wonderful reminder of simplicity.
This is fantastic!!! Don’t worry about the “rules”. There are no rules when it comes to art.
Absolutely gorgeous! You did a great job on it! 🥰

@@Rookie_Rockounding I now find myself wanting to create one of my own Jessie, I have a few stones that I admire but haven’t thought of a use for them until now .😁👍.
Ohhhhhh heck yeah man! You so should! It’s not as hard as I made it look. And in Kmart you can actually get wooden trays so all you need then is a rock, and some sand or pebbles and bam! You got yourself a Suiseki my brother!
Oh my goodness. This is just stunning. I love it. Well done. That little piece ofmoss just sets it off. Thank you so much for sharing.
Ohhh I am so glad you like it Darlene, and I have to agree, the little bit of moss just made it all pop haha! Thank you!
Love it.... It has given me some inspiration on what to do with some of my rocks 👍💞💞💞
Now that’s an awesome idea to do for the challenge!!! You did an amazing job!!! Love it!!
That's an amazingly beautiful rock , you're correct when you say most people won't find it attractive , for my taste it's beautiful.
That is a unique idea to use a traditional style of Japanese art. Great job my friend .can't wait to see how the other challengers are making out. Till the next one. Cheers

Mate that's awesome! I'm a drystone waller from Tasmania but live and work in Scotland,I'm always trying to place 'ordinary' stones in the most athletic way possible and I find it extremely satisfying 😌 .

That is absolutely the coolest. So calming and natural and totally made that breath taking rock the center of attention. Great great job!
That is amazing! I am glad you left some of the wood showing. It is a glorious material and like the rock it deserves to be showcased as well. I love the balance of the representation of water verses land. Well done.
So cool... I want one!!
I wouldn’t have covered the wood anymore than what you did. Beautiful piece, I think walnut may be the most interesting wood out there. Keep up with these great videos!
