    Dude, I was literally just about to get started on a double doorframe removal and thought I'd check here for a video. I was planning to pry the thing out with a pry bar all the way around. I still had to do plenty of prying with outside and inside trim, but man you saved me so much grief!

    Your time edits are perfect...all of what we need, none of what we don't (e.g. cutting the caulking). It's very helpful for some learners (like myself!) to actually watch you do each step for even 20 seconds to get a feel for it, then it's onto the next step. Keep 'em comin', Shannon!

    Thank you Shannon for your very informative and clear videos. I'm a DIY-er who has done quite a bit of work to my own house and because I finished everything I'm moving onto helping others. I learn something new with every project and they almost always come with a challenge along the way but I get through it and discovering your channel or videos has been a great help. I'm about to install a pre-hung exterior door on a small garage and in a couple of weeks install the full garage door. I of course saw you video on that and it will prove to be helpful.
    Sorry for the long message, but Thank you, I really appreciate you and your skill.

    Good Job. I've never done an exterior door. I was sure it wouldn't be hard but there's always something new you can learn. I'm glad I watched because I would have forgotten about my house alarm wiring on the top. The other thing I did was remove the excess sheet rock that hangs out. I just used my sheet rock hole saw and pushed in only, as I cut. I did this just in case I snagged it with the saw or the new door frame when I was installing it. If I snagged it, it could crack further into the wall, turning one job into three. The Door, Sheet rock repair and a paint job. Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    hello Shannon,
    I watch most of your video because I want to have knowledge to solve my Patio having Transom 62.5 X 92.5 eventhu I can not do the work. ::))
    I have a Patio Door (HDepot in USA call as Exterior Door as it connect to the Deck on the Second Floor).
    The door has one "fix" and one "open" (left open).
    There is a leak and the Maple Woodfloor (interior) was damaged. The door is in perfect condition and it is costly to replace the new one.
    I would like to have the Aluminium Threshold/Sill replaced but having Composite instead of Treated Wood. The Middle piece of the "Fix" and "Open" Door (I guess is called Mullion) sit on the Threshold.
    In order to replace the Threshold and part of the damaged Maple Woodfloor and reinvestigate the Joist of the Deck, the Patio door need to be removed and re-installed.
    I pay someone to deal w/ the issues for labor and I would pay for Materials.
    I already buy Vycor 0.025 in. x 9 in. x 75 ft. Deck Protector and try to buy the Threshold w/ composite.
    I would like to change the ORIGINAL wood frame w/ something that will NOT rot in the long run... it is possible?.
    Please provide suggestion and recommendation. Thx

    When you install a new exterior door should the jam be flush with the rough opening (wall stud) i.e. is the jam supposed to extend over the drywall and stucco or is it supposed to be flush with the stud on both sides? I am trying to figure out how to order a door for new construction and need the jam size

    • @HouseImprovements
      @HouseImprovements 4 года назад

      The two jamb sizes without custom ordering or adding on to them is 4-1/2" and 6-1/2". The jamb extends from flush to outside face of wall plywood to inside face of drywall. So a home with 2x4 walls ,1/2" exterior plywood and 1/2" drywall would be 4-1/2". You have some room to play with that, sometimes homes have 3/8 plywood and or 3/8 drywall so the standard sizes will work there also.

    • @frugalsolutions
      @frugalsolutions 4 года назад

      @@HouseImprovements Does it make sense that I need to order a 5 3/4 jam since I have 1/2 drywall and measured the stud to be 5 1/4? the plaster guy told me to do the jam flush with the stud.
      Everyone at the two hardware stores look at me like I am crazy, telling me I need to account for stucco and the measurements should be 1/2"(drywall) + 5 1/2"(they say all 2 x 6's are 5 1/2) + 7/8"(drywall) = 6 7/8
