    One thing I forgot to mention…..
    By the afternoon, the time stamps are more for me, not my daughters. They can go at their own pace once their math is done. They may even go outside and play for a bit. But homework needs to be completed before dinner.
    Same thing for the morning chores. There’s a half hour there. So if their chore only take them 5-10 minutes, I might let them go outside for a quick “recess”

    • @NovasYouTubeName

      What happens is they just keep not getting the work done and it’s dinner time…? Because when my kids all of sudden want my help at 6 pm cuz they’re rushing to get it done before dinner I tend to loose it!

      @@NovasRUclipsName i know this feeling! I can’t help after a certain time. My brain is done.
      This year. I started a rewards chart that has helped with some of this behavior. You could implement something like that and require they not have playtime, etc til homework is done.

    We operate on what I call the my time/your time policy. Your time begins when my time (school) ends. Both of my girls are motivated to finish so they can do what they want to do more quickly. I think this was easier to teach to Katie because she went to public school through 2nd grade and appreciated having more free time with homeschooling. But Sophie learned pretty quickly too.

    The Lord is so kind because I just came across this video again right when I was feeling like pulling my hair out and I was fresh out of ideas for my son! Lol. There were days I felt mean making him sit there when the day already felt long to finish. I've been wrestling with the mindset of "am I making this too much like public school" when we homeschool...but on the other side of the coin I was thinking he needs to learn to finish work so he can function in the work world. All that to say thank you...so glad it came back up on my feed to rewatch again. You saved me from going bald! 🙃🤣

    My oldest is that very distracted/procrastinating child. We have to do a very similar type of scheduling. I have an app on my phone(android) that she uses called "Kids task timer-visual timer for kids ". I program all her subjects/breaks for each day with the times. It's helped her a lot.

    • @nataliecrowe2122
      @nataliecrowe2122 2 года назад +2

      @@OurHOMEschoolPlan yes. You program your day with a set amount of time for each subject. You can also put a 1 or 5 min visual or audio warning indicating that time is almost up for that subject and once its done it goes to the next subject. The part 2 to this video is here:
      ruclips.net/video/ojW_qSZ-_KI/видео.html
      If you go to my RUclips page, there’s a menu item at top of the channel page that says “videos”. If you click that, it will list every video I’ve done from most recent to oldest. You can also sort it by most views (although older videos also typically have more views). You can also find various videos through my playlists. I have all my videos organized in multiple ways depending on what you’re looking for, so there may be a video in more than 1 playlist. For example, all curriculum videos are in 1 curriculum review playlist, but I also have playlists for specific grades. I hope that helps!!

    Preface: I come from a classroom background:
    So, expectations are great and (as a procrastinator myself, and what helps me as well) I use a wall timer to keep students on task--no blankets, no water, no bathrooms when the timer is going and it's work time. An announcement that it's five minutes until school time, and go get comfy now, should be able to cut through the distractions and procrastination when it's focus time.
    Also, my three-year-old is going to be a procrastinator too, I can tell. We're teaching her how to focus right now (eyes on the task and talking about the task; simple things like getting herself buckled in her car seat or putting on shoes).

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  2 года назад

      Yeah-I thought about this idea since that’s how schools do it. We do use the cube timer sometimes. As long as I’m in the room with them, they’re fine. It’s if I leave to go to the bathroom, or check on my son, etc…..they allow themselves to be distracted. 😜

    The routine/list does help! I've tried picture tiles and putting up a printed schedule, but what has helped recently is a bullet journal-style daily sched I jot down on a spiral notebook. I'm such a distractable person myself; it helps come up with what we need to work on for the day, and I add a wishlist for things I'd like to get to. The spiral notebook travels around the house with us so we can keep referring back to it.
    I keep thinking a I should learn to use would be Alexa timers (even with a routine, we can be so time blind). Also, taking school out of the house! In normal times, we used to bring bags with schoolwork to the library study room...Hopefully those will open again soon. Or even work with one kid while the other is at a lesson or practice.

      If they have homework but you have a play date or activity in the afternoon.. Do they do it before bed when you get back home?

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  2 года назад +1

      @@ashleysoverns3301 yes, maybe. There’s flexibility. What they don’t get is their screen time. So if they don’t get it done, when we get home, they need to continue on with their list. But if we get home too late, then they may just have double the homework the next day. You have to use judgement. Sometimes I’ve said no screens the next day. It just depends if n the circumstances.
      Well, what if no screens the next day means they aren’t motivated to move? Then I ground them for the weekend bc they shouldn’t have to be “motivated” to obey. 😉

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  Год назад

      I’m not sure what you’re asking. If they can’t work independently and need me? You’ll have to give me an example bc I work with the kids who need me. But I’m only one person nap I have to schedule my own time. If I can “ping pong” between kids who maybe are both doing math but need help….I’ll have them sit on either side of me so I can be there to help both at the same time.
      And then I try to COMBINE as much as I can….teaching them all together.

    • @DaisyMancuso
      @DaisyMancuso Год назад

      @@OurHOMEschoolPlan I guess I am primarily thinking about how much time language arts takes us. it seems to be so much time when I have to read all the lessons but their actual worksheets don't consume much time so they are done and sitting waiting for me before I am done with someone else. math is very independent for now, and I love that.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  Год назад +1

      @@DaisyMancuso this year I have a list for my girls on what they can do independently. So if they are sitting waiting for me, I can say, “work on your independent work!”
      That list might say their chores, maybe they have to make their bed or out their laundry away. Or maybe it’s time for a little break. Go jump on the trampoline. We have maps they can trace. Flash cards they can practice. I try to think through these things. For my youngest. When she was a lot smaller, I didn’t mind letting her have a break and playing with something. So I had stem type toys, like blocks, or buttons she loved to arrange, puzzles….even coloring pages. Last year my girls liked coloring anime coloring sheets I printed from the internet.
      Hope that helps!!

    • @DaisyMancuso
      @DaisyMancuso Год назад

      @@OurHOMEschoolPlan so do you just plan extra kind of worksheets that you know they can do on their own so they don't start leaving their seats and getting toys and rolling on the floor playing and being a distraction to whomever you are currently working with? something like that?

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  Год назад +1

      @@DaisyMancuso I don’t have littles anymore so I don’t plan busy work. Today, I just know what they need to do and what can be done independently. And I may have suggestions for independent activities they can do. (Like the stem games)
      When my kids were little, it was harder. I have a video of things i did with toddlers.
      When they were preschool age, I guess yeah….I just had a bunch of activities I knew they could do IF I didn’t want them to leave the table or if I wanted them to play quietly. But if you have little distractions, the meson thing is to plan the hard work with the older kids when you KNOW the younger ones will be napping or able to play quietly. So I planned my sons harder work for the afternoons.
      I also took advantage of education TV shows. I’d put in DVD about an animal they wanted to learn about. Or maybe some school house rocks videos.
