Not bad. However, a ** 3915 ** is the better choice for an "audio chaser". The 3914 is for LINEAR STEP uses, like a voltage meter. The 3915 is for LOGARITHMIC STEP uses like AUDIO OUTPUT METERS. Finally, there's the 3916 which is for VU METER uses - it's a logarithmic step chip like the 3915 but its' VU "steps" are WAY DIFFERENT than those in the 3915.
If you doubt this analysis, look up the Specification Sheets for each chip. :)
BTW: the PINOUTS and "hookups" are IDENTICAL for all 3 chips (but that DOES NOT make them "interchangeable" as I explained above)!
You beat me to that comment, You are 100% correct. The LM 3915 is the VU meter version.
3914 is the easiest to get, didnt find a 3915/3916 anywhere locally
@@bsuryasaradhi6816 I've used all 3 in projects back in the 80's, The LM3915 because it's logarithmic in voltage detection has a hard time giving a display that's pleasing to watch as most music doesn't vary all that much, it tends to have only a few LED's doing all the work. The LM3914 tends to react (use more of the 10 output's) better to "listening" audio than if it's set up to be used as a VU meter. So if you want something that flashes and dances to the music the LM3914 is way better. If you use a socket you can replace / swap out the 3914 for the 3915/6 to see the differences. In the 80's I was building custom light displays for DJ's...

Можно и без транзисторов всё включать. Светодиоды последовательно включить напрямую к микросхеме, она это позволяет. На вход нужен диод и конденсатор. Работать будет намного лучше.

I just happened upon this channel a few weeks ago and find this stuff very interesting. I would very much like to learn the nuts and bolts of how to do this, how to come up with little projects, how to know what parts to use and where to get them, etc... Can someone suggest a good book or website or YT channel or what have you to get started? While I am starting at zero, I have built uncountable computers and such since the 80's
First I suggest you a simple electronic simulator on your laptop or PC. For example the Every Circuit is a good choice. This program has got an Android or IOS version. Later you can buy real parts, but some basic tools must buy. Moreover you must learn at least about the basic electricity.
