Nice game! I usually struggle with opening up positions, particularly as white. Whenever I play a good opponent it feels like I have no good move as white after developing my pieces, and whenever I go for trades I usually lose them. I suppose I struggle when attacking as white, is what I'm trying to get at. Do you have any tips or openings I could practice to get better at that?

You could play sole gambits, they are usually really tactical and alot of potential for attacking

Without Stockfish’s help I couldn’t figure out why the ending position was resignable. One thing about chess, it’ll keep you humble.

Your videos are very insightful and helpful. Thank you so much for posting.. Would it be possible to do a video on Sicilian Mengarini variation?

I'm not mad about QG because control of the center can be overdone. The opening is to get your pieces out and stop the opponent pawns from advancing and creating havoc; pawns are to defend pieces not pieces to defend pawns. I have changed my game entirely under the influence of your style of getting the big guns active pronto and aimed at the king. Thank you.

Love the QGD video. if you're happy with the Nc3 QGD, why do you play the nimzo move order? just to let white try 3. Nf3?

Na6 is a very interesting approach. I also liked g6 setting up Bf5, attacking the queen on c3. Thanks! To be honest, I'm still not clear how the QGD and the Slav overlap. I guess I'll have to do more opening study! :-)

Wow! I play the queen's gambit all the time as white. Now, I know a few things to avoid as white. :D

I feel like white's handling of minor piece development was surprisingly poor for someone rated that high.

Wow, coming back to this video, it's amazing how you and the community at large have blown up recently. And all thanks to a pandemic and a Netflix show. Who'd have guessed? I remember back when the community was just St. Louis, kingscrusher, agadmanator, Suren and some other randoms, like Ben Finegold.

Qb3 followed by Rac1 looks nice. Now even with a bishop on f5 there is no penetrating the c2 square. Plus if the bishop ever leaves c8 and the knight b4, b7 is hanging

What if rook sacrifice at the critical moment ?? Black plays Rd8d2 immediately

At 8:09, I found Ne5. I thought that looked good, couldn't find a refutation. The idea is, 2.Nxd5 Rxd5 is threatening Rxf5 and then Qh4. If 3.Qe1 Qxf5 with the threat of Re5 or Rd7, for example 4.Rd1 Re5, and you can't protect the bishop because 5.Rd2 Bg5 wins everything.. I don't have a PGN, does that line work? It's not as good as yours, obviously, as a the very least it takes a lot more moves. But it does seem to transpose somewhere similar.

This game is awesome. As a 1400 rapid player on chess .co my fear is that I wouldn’t be able to find the mates in time to utilise the quicker development advantage I got by sacrificing. Do you think I should keep doing it and force myself to get better at it or is it unreasonable for a player of my rating to make minor piece sacrifices as early as you did? @ericrosen

If you aren’t comfortable sacrificing pieces, don’t. Do a lot of tactics puzzles and watch Daniel Naroditsky’s speedruns
