Do you want a desktop (a "standard" typewriter) or a portable, or maybe an ultra-portable? Manual or electric? Vintage or more modern? How good a typist are you? Do you need lots of features or do you simply need something that will get the job done? Go looking for videos of "best typewriters" and you'll see a good lineup of "top tens" with different lists from practically every person.
I know, and one of my loudest typewriters is my smith corona silent ;) If someone wants to make one really quiet, we replace all the rubber. It just costs a little more

Yes Remington and Underwood were identical in a few models other than branding.
