      @RedPanda_______ that has always been my thought. I leased one for 3 years while the others I have kept for 8-10 years. I also never just walk into a dealer and “pick” my truck. I ask the dealer what truck they are trying to get rid of because it has been around to long. So I don’t get color or even all the option toys but I have always paid well below MSRP.

    About the only time I buy new is if the platform is the same, but styling improved.
    Example, bought a '24 Q7 mostly because of the new blacked out package that now includes the Audi badging in black. Also, the color combo was perfect, and I negotiated the price below invoice.
    Otherwise, the target for me is ALWAYS CPO used--bought a 2019 911 4 GTS with 2-years CPO, added 1 year, and going to add 2 more later.
    CPO is the way to GO! Feel free to use that. 😆

    I actually have been trying to by a new car on my terms since January. I gave up last week and got a garage kept 2004 Avalon with 96k (not a typo). Changed the water pump and timing belt and did a drain and fill on transmission. It all cost me what would have been my down payment $5,600 and now I don't have a car payment and my insurance went down in price because it is cheaper to insure a 04 Avalon than a 02 Optoma I have driven for the last 21 years. Your video made me feel very confident about my decision. New and shiny isn't worth six years of car payments.

She dropped collision on her insurance and the next month we got hit by an uninsured driver and the car was totaled (they had to cut the roof off to get me out). This is separate from collision which is what people tend to refer to as “full coverage”. I mainly know this as I sold insurance for State Farm when I was straight out of college.

    Buying a pre-owned practical car, such as a used Toyota, or if the luxury itch is gnawing, a Lexus. Same with Honda/Acura, is more prudent than a German or Stellantis septic tank on wheels. The problem with most any used luxury car is the car may have depreciated, but the cost of parts and labor stays static or increases, as well. And please, people, stay away from Carmax, they ask as much for a used, high mileage car when you can buy the exact car new for about the same amount of money and won't be paying Carmax interest rates, even with good credit they'll getcha!

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  3 месяца назад +1

      Haha I love the septic tank statement. Funny but not far from the truth in certain models like Audi AQ5 etc. some huge deals can be had though even for used luxury if it’s the right make and model. Service records are hugely important.

    • @AvengerAngel
      @AvengerAngel 3 месяца назад

      @@ECPP Yep, service history, imperative. Carfax has a fairly good record if the service centers are reporting maintenance, most dealerships do, (although I check the color of my oil before I leave the dealership's service lot to be sure it is clean oil, (after my usual 5K oil change) and the filter to be sure they were actually changed. I save receipts, too. But you never know some owners still have the mindset of bare maintenance and along comes the next owner to deal with lax service on a used car.

  • @islanddon865
    @islanddon865 3 месяца назад +3

    I buy new cars because interest rates on new cars are lower. Also when you buy a used car and eventually want to trade it, people aren't standing in line for a THIRD HAND CAR, with buyers wondering how badly the first car tortured it. So trade-ins can be really lousy. To avoid glitchiness in super advanced cars, l buy the base models with fewer gimmicky gadgets that l never use. I also wait till the new model is coming out and get the previous year. If l can, l buy on New Year's Eve when the Dealer is trying squeeze every last deal into the store, in order to reach their Manfufacture's goals that allows them better allocations for more desired models, big bonus $$$ and buying power with Manufacturer.

    So I have bought a lot of cars some new some used. 1 month ago I purchased a CPO 2021 Lexus NX 300 Fsport with 47k miles. I would have never bought it ( so many cosmetic defects) but loved the ultrasonic blue with white interior ( a rare find). The more I drive the car and the more I detail it, I find more and more problems.. not mechanical, but just the last owner did not take care of this beautiful car. It was a lease and looks like it was parked outside and not cared for at all other than the maintenance was done every 5k at a Lexus dealer.
    Needless to say I saved a lot of money and have plenty to invest or save to pay off my house, but next time I will buy New because I do not like the lack of care people have for their cars. Lesson learned for me, I am just too much of a perfectionist to deal with other people’s problems or lack of care.

      Indeed am just like you too and I am also one who hates cosmetic neglect and imperfections and drives me nuts. With that said, I also see minor defects and issues as a little mini project and a challenge. I had one premium BmW that I bought because the miles were right, and the price was very competitive but it had a couple lightly scraped wheels and many door dings but I saw this as an opportunity to nickel and dime the PO who was a doctor due to the flaws and was able to get the car formula cheap and made it just feel so right. I detailed it myself and took it to a dent removal shop and when all was said and done, I had a great car with extra warranty, low Ks, and priced better than most. Win Win.

      @@ECPP YES.. I am going crazy 🤪 definitely a project is fun, but does cost and not sure if I am keeping her. I got most dents and chips repaired by Lexus, but not to my liking lol 😆
      The front splitter needs replacing from rock chips as well as the chrome around the grill. I looked into chrome delete but that’s about $1k , and I am ceramic coating for $1k as well..
      the front camera has a couple of chips causing a bit of shadow on the 360 camera image.. that is not covered under warranty and the steering wheel makes a little squeak when turning.. lol
      Would you invest more like the chrome delete , camera repair, and other improvements if I am not keeping past 1 year?
      I am assuming you kept your BMW for a while or still have it?
      Thank you for your thoughts! Love your channel. 💙

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  3 месяца назад

      Yes you always have to do the math on it and if you are borrowing most from the bank, then that is a factor. Buying cash or higher deposits are less of a factor in interest rates

  • @thomashelm6931
    @thomashelm6931 3 месяца назад +5

    Absolutely agree with the new vs used issues! All of them. Haven't bought new in decades. Even from the depreciation aspect and existing interest rates, if needed for financing. Most do.

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  3 месяца назад

      For sure Thomas. Most people "justify" new as they get warranty, and borrowing rates are lower, but from a "bang for buck" perspective, if they saved a few dollars to put a bigger down payment, then monthly can be less or reasonable. Warranty? Get a well respected brand with good service history and warranty becomes less of an issue.

    We bought a 1980 Dodge PU used and mean no disrespect to you but it was our worst vehicle ever. It was 2WD and we knew former owner but wasn’t real close. We are in VA and in our 60’s. Just bought last summer ’23 4Runner before they ruin it. We still have 89 Chev 4WD that turned 35 last month so it’s our mulch and run to the dump truck. We still have spotless garage kept 2001 Chev Silverado 4WD we bought 23 years ago this month. Neither have been wrecked except for deer running into front corner of ‘89. My husband prefers to buy new and maintain himself. He doesn’t trust someone else changing oil or lubing. I guess saying this as we have been burned on used vehicles. We also bought a 1990 Ford full size 4WD Bronco that had 8 or 9,000 miles that a used car dealer (that was connected to me through business) had that had never been titled. It was ok, never been wrecked and we traded in on ‘96 Chev Tahoe as it leaked 3 places and tailgate rusted that they replaced. Sprayed water on it to wash at home and the blue paint peeled off. They painted that. So neither had to do with buying used but we just like a clean slate. Yes you are right buying used is much better and if you notice the people with money always do that. It is the wise choice!!! We just made bad decisions on two vehicles that we bought to hold us until we could get what we really wanted. We both enjoy your videos very much. Love your support of Toyotas (just not the new crap making) and wish we had gotten Sequoia and Tundra before changing engines and ruining them.

    my parents only bought new. I only buy used. go figure. since a car is a poor investment that only depreciates, why not let the first guy take the hit? If it checks out mechanically, what is the difference? Perhaps if i have a ton in the 401 at retirement, I may treat myself to a new car. was on the lot today, can get a new corolla le for 24k. great car. great price. now this dealership is i believe hiding inventory and adding 4k in adms. but Mark, you are going to have to use some shoe leather to find what you need - contacting dealerships in a wider buying radius. But, I say you can get this for 23k or there abouts. what's not to like at that price?
