- Time is one of the few things we regard as regular and unchanging. But is it really so constant? We take a look at the physics of time. Time is the apparent progression of events from past to future. While it's impossible to completely define the nature of time, we all share many common experiences bound by time: Causes lead naturally to effects, we remember the past but not the future and the evolution of time appears to be continuous and irreversible. So what time really is? What is it's properties? We will discuss and explain in this video.

I have one question. Clocks work because of some chemical energy like that of a battery cell. If there is a difference in the clock of spaceship, should we not think that how the chemical energy of cell worked in a different way, gave out less energy or something, instead of assuming that time itself dilated? Similarly, in case of human growing old, should we not think that the internal biological processes somehow change when people moving fast in a spaceship, instead of saying that time slowed down? Maybe the measuring clocks change somehow and not the time?
Dear Vijeta your explanation too is not less than a mind blowing one. I think all these problems on knowing about time come due to lack of proper definition on time. If there exist a proper and acceptable definition on time, many things got solved automatically about time. According to me - I define time as “Time is the speed of activity which effects changes on things”.
Therefore time is neither an absolute one nor an illusion. It is mere a tool or method of knowing certain information on the speed of activity and the consequent changes it brought on things.

मेरे विचार में समय अभौतिक, अचर, शाश्वत, अपरिवर्तनशील तथा एक निरपेक्ष तत्व है। सम्पूर्ण प्रकृति,प्राणी एवं पदार्थ ,समय के सापेक्ष परिवर्तनशील है।
हमलोग सभी व्यक्ति (में, आप और सभीलोग) प्रकृति तथा प्रकृति से निर्मित शरीर की परिवर्तनशीलता को प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव करते हैं, हमलोग आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से ,समय तत्व के ही अंश है । वास्तव में सभी प्राणी एवं पदार्थ तात्विक रूप से एक ही हैं । केवल अलग - अलग शरीर होने के कारण अलग प्रतीत हो रहे हैं।
यद्यपि समय अखंड है । फिर भी प्रकृति की परिवर्तनशीलता के अनुरूप भूत,वर्तमान तथा भविष्य के रूप में हमलोग अज्ञानतावश इसे खंडित मान लेते हैं।
Calculus में dx/dt का भी यही तात्पर्य है , कि प्रकृति(x), समय (t) के सापेक्ष परिवर्तनशील है । लेकिन समय किसी के सापेक्ष परिवर्तनशील नहीं है। अतः यह कहना गलत है कि समय गतिशील है । घड़ी की सुई ,आकाशीय पिंड, गैलेक्सी,निहारिका ,सूर्य ,तारा तथा अनंत ब्रह्माण्ड गतिशील है,लेकिन समय तत्व (स्वयं का स्तित्वभाव मैंपन) स्थिर है। चूंकि मैं(समय) स्थिर हूं,इसीलिए प्रकृति की परिवर्तनशीलता को एहसास कर पाता हूं। समय को गतिशील मानना गलत है।
आइंस्टीन से भी यही भूल हुई थी,जिस कारण आज इक्कीसवीं सदी में क्वांटम एंटेंगलमेंट के सिद्धांत के सामने समय के वेग का वह सिद्धांत गलत साबित हो गया कि,ब्रह्माण्ड में समय से तेज गति से कुछ चल ही नहीं सकता । आइंस्टीन तो यह भी भूल गए कि भौतिक समय से तेज तो मन भी है। वास्तव में समय तत्व भौतिक है ही नहीं,अभौतिक है,आध्यात्मिक है,अचर है । कई बार सृष्टि हुआ,महाप्रलय हुआ, बिग बैंग हुआ,बिग क्रंच हुआ,लेकिन समय तत्व ज्यों का त्यों स्थिर रहा , है और रहेगा ।
इसीलिए गीता में शाश्वत ईश्वर श्री कृष्ण भगवान भी कहते हैं कि गणना करनेवालों में मैं समय हूं ।

If it is your beginning phase of watching and understanding scientific theories, you might find it bit confusing because of the new words and terms of science you must be hearing for the first time. Once you get to know most of the scientific words , it will get easier for you to understand such videos. Glad you took efforts to watch such videos. These force us to think deep and rationally.

Video may spark motivation (for science) in layman but it has some flaws which must be corrected , as someone doing professional course in thermodynamics I want to point the flawed explanation of entropy at 3:32 , it is common error to define entropy as disorder but disorder is only the effect of entropy (will provide proper definition if someone ask) , this misconception arises due to complexity of entropy itself since it requires statistical thermodynamical treatment to explain which is not possible for any author dealing with macroscopic approach only but it could have been described easily on screen ( others have done it eg, steve moulds) it is also incorrect to say that it is always increasing, for some systems it may decrease! at absolute zero it's magnitude is zero!!! For universe as a whole it seems to show net increase and probably since time progresses in direction of increasing entropy , we may say that direction of arrow of time may reverse. Also the generalization that all changes are irreversible is not true , ergodic hypothesis or simply reversible chemical reactions are good examples of it.
