It's not an insult, but I'm amazed
that you guys don't know that
that's a part of your cultural
I have started to learn as a producer and song maker that all the great music comes from producers/ musicians that have a church background. I started to hit a wall on my melodies this year and have got back into learning more music theory and different chord combinations to upscale my production cus I make my own samples.
One of the hidden gifts of service is that you acquire both spiritual gifts and physical gifts 🎁.
I saw a similar argument comparing RnB singers of now vs. yesteryear, where singers of now don't belt or hold long notes or sing difficult pieces, perhaps because of how music has changed, but as an extreme example, to find someone on the level of Whitney Houston now is quite frankly difficult.
The church musicians will always be influential in the world, no doubt.
I agree that the church has influence many music elements but unfortunately, it's slowly but surely changing with churches simplifying music by only doing Christian contemporary music versus gospel.
It's true Bro.... Aretha is PROOF of that... As a matter, Gospel music came from BLUES...
Wasn't he talking about production? Even then the producers came from churches
As a retired 48 year COGIC-Baptist-UMC musician I was a part of the change over from the spiritual, anthem and hymn sound to mid-level gospel. The musicians who were *trained sheet music readers were great playing off the paper but, when the preacher began to whoop ' crickets from the Hammond organ. My style was influenced from high school jazz band, no hymns or anthems to be seem. I'm a good "ear" musician who listens to the nuances heard in all styles of music and that's how I can borrow chord progressions and light jazz infusions into hymns and spiritual songs. Yes, my father was a musician but kept the old school original gospel sound, my brother adopted the groove Holmes jazz chords. I'm a product of cartoon and commercial music listening to all the changes that intrigued my ears adding those chords into the gospel sound from the early 70's through the 2000's. I now mentor all musicians around the world to the traditional spiritual, anthem, hymn, gospel, contemporary and urban gospel styles so they can have a resource when those songs are required whenever called upon. Long comment but, I saw the lack of quality church musicians coming behind me in 1992 and have been filling that void in my area and on the internet since 1999.
That you have been! 🫡
I could speak about this subject matter for hours. Our greatest musical influences come from and out of the church.
yup!
Same here. Black ppl not going to church anymore killed our whole culture. And music was definitely way wayyy better when we were in the church
I couldn’t agree with this more! There are intangibles you pick up while actively engaging in ministry that you will never get in any other space. As a kid who grew up in church as a drummer later to play keys & organ I’ve seen this scenario play out more times than I can count. Long live the church and her sound.
Gospel music came from Spirituals and then it was enhanced and refined with Technology Musicians really began to study their craft and God put his hand on the music.
Exactly. I was just about to say this.
Love this vid bro! its true Being in church has molded even the way I listen to songs.
I agree with this and then you have just had Kevin Powell on the hangout and he was telling you about his dad Hubert Powell and the influence he had on Gospel Music. That sound is important! The debate I keep having with folks is: If you take the lyrics off of the songs - what genre would Gospel be.
Rock and roll came from the church. The riffs and chords played by Lil Richard where from the church. Then when you add the blues, jazz and other genres that fused into rock the influence is even more. Music and frequencies that music induces are spiritual. Thats why you can remember the year by the song cuz the music is connected with your emotions and feelings. Music is a gateway to the spirit realm. Most spiritual sacrements are preceded by music to tap into spiritual frequency.
It’s a ton of music out but very few have that texture and vibe on the music. 95 percent of people come from the church it definitely impacts the music😊
Well the truth is that music was created entirely for the purposes of worship and communication! So to know that, it’s easy to understand this argument! You right we are super humans and the training we get from church, is unmatched in the secular world! And you right, sometimes we do too much but once you understand what being musical means, then you can refine the approach! It’s the anointing that makes the difference!
The thing I’ve seen the most is churches are taking care of us musicians nowadays. Past churches musicians didn’t get paid, so they had to work with secular artists just to survive. Pop music is flooded and unpredictable. Stay with the church, stay saved and you get a monetary blessing too. 🤷🏾
If you seen the movie Ray when he started playing a song idea, his friend told him it sounded like a Gospel song.
I thought this was common knowledge.
Soul music was derived from Gospel.
The term gospel music was first originated by the guy that wrote precious Lord
Everybody went to church except for a few,
but their friends went to church and they were influenced by them
I find it hard to believe you might not have to go to church,
but your families influence you had to pray over your meals.
He had to pray when you went to sleep yeah to pray when you traveled.
I hate to contradict you.
They're not superhero.
They're mighty men of God. God people don't use super that's of the world.
Superman had a curse on that everybody in that movie on the movie
has something bad happened to them
mighty men of God, mighty men of valor.
Everything about whats being said about this topic are facts
I never thought about this when it comes to new artists. They DON'T go to church! That's why they sing like they do. I 100% agree with this entire video! These new singers have no soul or passion in their voices. No range. Everything sounds the same. And on the subject of musicians, here's a tid bit. Fred Hammond did musical arrangements for New Edition on one of their last tours!
Facts they sing straight and sterile . You can’t even feel it
Bro, teach me how to play keys over my samples
I also think that many churches undervalue their musicians and what they bring to the table. That's why church musicians are picked for tours.
There's a musical term it's called.
Take it to church.
It's a certain sound that the band would play.
They say
take it to church man take it to church.
Is the same way that the world has stolen everything
from our culture people of color the enemy
has stolen everything from or tried to emulate the holiness
things that come from God I'm amazing. You didn't know that.
Let's be clear it is the "so-called" BLACK CHURCH that we are talking about here! :-)
A lot of the early white rockers like Elis Presley went to black churches at night when segregation existed to hear "THAT SOUND" that only the black church had.
Well Gospel Producers, did you forget what the Holy Scriptures told us to do as believers? Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord. 🤔 Also Colossians.3:17 says and whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God and the father by him. So why are we as Christians talking about the best RnB ( Worldly) singers came out of church
This is why r&b artist be having amazing bands on tour. U can hear the worship chords on the keys ESPECIALLY summer walkers band is disgusting 🤮🤮🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yup!
SO why haven't they stayed with the church and given that talent to Blow up Gods word through music? What has the church not provided to keep them there?
Most importantly The way Leaders in the church Treat musicians is crazy. but After that the church Do Not often Pay.
@@ZzackVee I came to say the same thing you just said, musicians are often overlooked in the church and when they leave the church and use their gifts somewhere else they are shamed and shunned because they didn't want to work for free or next to nothing
Let’s be real, church will not provide the same income as RnB has. That’s why they leave.
It's a calling you really have to be Called to do God's work..I left to do smooth jazz because I never wanted to do gospel I felt like just gospel limited me I like R&B better to be honest im a real Christian I am saved but I'm honest with whom God made me so I do me and Guess what he understands God won't limit us we limit ourselves..so it's ok to go R&B or whereever God leads you music wise with your talents
@@leonpressley6882same here, I like r and b better.
Gospel music and Flat Tops with the part on the side influenced r&b 😂😂😂😂 jk
😂😂
All music comes from the old Christian Spirituals. No matter what genre, it’s been played in a Church somewhere.
And not just Christian culture BLACK Christian culture
But now days church ain’t church anymore everybody got the lights off singing this sad hill song stuff with no children’s choirs young adult choirs or mass / combination choirs musicians can’t play hymns, spirituals and anthem
And are not in the word with their craft to invoke the real gospel essence everything is over arranged nothing sounds or feels new it’s sad but real R&B will never be again
