More people should see this. You saved me the headache of trying to obtain a decent sized bottle of nitric acid. I found some on Amazon that unfortunately is not very good quality and couldn't find any other listings. And I don't want to use sulfuric acid because that's going to damage the gold. And I did not want to have to jump through any hoop shifts to get some. Before anybody says what about muriatic acid, I don't know if that will work. I don't know if it'll eat away at the soldering or the board itself. I try to research it, but couldn't get a straight answer.

Thanks Tin Man. Hadn't really thought of using a heat gun, but will look into investing in one. Looks much easier than the method I have been removing pins from mother boards and such. Thanks also for the info on removing the core and magnets of the microwave mechanism. I have several that I haven't finished scrapping.

I'd love to see a video on finding, pricing and figuring out what our time is best spent in. Just a an idea for a future video. I'm sure there's more ppl who wander the same.
I do have videos on what items found are worth the most. I will say that a lot of times I am going to on my way to work. Giving cost of gas, it has to be worth it. Also taking into account time of day, competition, type of vehicle, etc.
you can also use a clothes iron and make a holder to turn it upside down and leave the board to set on, make sure to move air outside away from yourself.
I've gone through two heat guns already. You'll find the elements burn out fairly quickly. If they have two settings, turn it from high to the low range before shutting it off. The lower setting will help it cool down without fatigue / heat cracking the element. I have a vice I hold motherboards in, place a tray underneath it to collect all the pins and chips during depopulation. I typically pry off the aluminum capacitors because they can explode when heated. The transistors, resistors, diodes, that I can cut off with my dykes (diagonal cutting pliers) I do so before heating the board with my airgun. The only thing I use heat to remove are the gold plated pins / sockets, MLCCs, mosfets, flat resistors, and IC chips off the circuit board. I find it pays to sort and stow away items I depopulate from the boards at the end of each day. This way, I don't have to sort through several buckets full of items over a week or two. Remember to take care not to burn yourself or catch adjacent items on fire.
Ammonium nitrate And hydrochloric will make quick work of those pins. Peroxide and hydrochloric. Thales forever. Usually let the sit all winter if I’m using peroxide method.

Love the channel and your enthusiasm but its gonna take you a lifetime to depopulate boards with the heat gun, whack a map gas blowtorch on the solder.
i have 9 desktop computers i took the circuit boards out and 2 flatscreen tv's..how much gold do i have estimated?do flatscreen tv's contain gold because i pass a lot of them up on the street being thrown out?
Yes, they have long green circuit boards with a gold plated strip down the one side. Depending on size sometimes 2 or 1. Not sure how much gold but all gold plated.
have not yet as I am storing them up, but Boardsort.com will buy as well you could put them online to see if people will buy per weight to refine themselves
The s squares are cpu chips from computer towers and laptops.the flatscreen TVs have long circuit boards usually at top or bottom of flatscreens that have strip of gold plating, not pins.

Great information. Thanks so much.

Thanks for watching Lara. I do appreciate the comment.
Wow the heat gun works great.. and I already have a heat gun.. cool I wouldn't have thought of that..

Sometimes a diy solder bath is best for server pins. And way easier faster.
God Bless.

Not bad. Remember solder is liquid at 300 - 350 degrees. Try a propane torch or soldering iron. .
How much weight in pins does it take to get an ounce of gold after refining?
Hey tin,i work at a car dealership in Florida and they throw away car window and af switches i found out they contain gold boards with gold pins
nice score for you. Perk of the job I guess for you if you get to take them and scrap them. Thanks for the comment. Stay well and happy scrapping

Great little tips for new scrappers.
some people think it's just to small an amount of gold to bother with, however, prospectors never toss gold out for being small. think about it.
Good point. I agree. Thanks for the comment. Stay well.
Could you ever do a video on gold extraction ?? Preferably without hard chemicals but however you do it at home.
I too am wondering how to take those gold scraps and separate the pure gold from it

I keep stacking as well. The tags have a little gold inside and I keep them with my gold parts, although not a lot
Thanks for getting back to me so soon I appreciate the feedback
I have read that that boards emit toxic fumes when heated. What are your thoughts regarding this drawback?
I think all scrapping can release harmful substances (grinding, etc) as long as well ventilated area, should be better
Besides, I am just warming the solder
Who do you sell the pins to? I've got 3 quart Mason jars full of them pins.

Awesome video, but I can’t get it out of my head that you sound exactly like the guy in the show Dan vs.
just a suggestion you might wanna try letting them set in the sun and get hot first then you wont have to use the heat gun as long
Good suggestion, but hard to warm if winter out.

the metal on the back of the CPU's is usually #2 copper

You may be breathing toxic fumes released from the melting.

That was way faster using a heat gun over a soldering pen and a desoldering pump 👍
What do you do with the CPU chip after you remove gold?
the backing is copper so #2 copper
I mean the squares using the heat gun
In the USA those are vice grips. A pair of needle nose grips might be better.🐎🌻✌️
Are the pins pure gold
no, gold plated.
What temperature is the heat gun please.
920F or 425C on high.
Thank you. Do you use an electronic device to test silver and gold quality? If so could you tell me what it is.@@TinManScrapper
No I don’t. The gold is just gold plated, but gold is gold. @@CaptainRadack
that metal backing is a nickel plated solid copper heatsink. remove it .

by the way, who will but the gold pins, as is? if u cant refine them? anyone know?
Boardsort.com will buy per weight
Also could try putting on eBay, etc. people that do refine will also buy
I use a razor blade and cut the legs… it is way faster and cost effective and my opinion
Thanks for the tip. Stay well and happy scrapping
