i remember bobby hull signing my sticks as a kid.. always friendly and accomodating ... after the game he'd come out of the dressing rooms and kids would run to him for his autograph.. great memories from the old wpg. arena

Different Jets. The old Jets are now the Coyotes and the new Jets used to be the Thrashers. The fans are happy to have a team in the Peg though.

@@dashcroft1892 also this version of the Jets are a much better team than the old Jets were!

@Don B Hull did great in the WHA but it was a much slower league so don’t be fooled by his numbers! Remember, this is a league that made Mike Walton a scoring star. Think about that !! 😐

@Don B my point that you missed was that because of the fact the WHA was a slower league, his numbers went noticeably up. The goaltending wasn’t the greatest I ever saw either! Other than Gerry Cheevers, there really wasn’t anyone as good as Ken Dryden or as good as Bernie Parent, Chico Resch and Billy Smith all became. Think about it 😐

@Don B but you were comparing the WHA Bobby Hull and the Jets to today’s NHL Jets right? I am well aware of what he did pre-WHA. I have been around a while, including sitting in the old Northlands Coliseum and watching the WHA Edmonton Oilers in action! 😉

Hull chopped the tendon guards on the back of his skates off. At the time players were even taping that part around the ankle. What I'm trying to say is Hull was way ahead of his time in skate technology. That ability for ankle movement is the basis for the modern day skate of today.

Bobby Hull went on strike one day in protest for the abuse on Hedberg and U Nilsson. They were constantly bruised.

Jets beat USSR national team (Tretiak, Kharlamov and all the other Russian superstars that team Canada barely beat . This was in January 1978 I believe . That Jets team was very skilled

They played 4 game series. 3 in Japan in December and 1 in Canada in January. The Soviets won all the games in Japan and lost the one in Canada.

I think the Jets of the late 70s were the only hockey team that matched the Montreal Canadiens of that time in speed and skill - if not more.

I hope Winnipeg always has a top notch franchise and is never without a NHL team again.Look at Quebec, not even on the map any longer and Montreal losing the Expos,Canada needs to keep their major cities...Major Cities.

The Winnipeg Jets of the WHA were like the then Montreal Canadiens of the NHL the top hockey team in their league.
