Scales that can go over an A7 chord:
D major/A mixolydian mode
A half/whole diminished scale
E jazz minor
B flat jazz minor or Dorian mode
G dorian mode
D flat Dorian mode
This substitutions were taken from "Quantum Guitar" video by Pat Martino (RIP)
These substitutions are important because Joe Pass would talk about how he viewed chord changes as V dominant 7th.
