"Bed of Rose's" is a song written by Harold Reid, and recorded by American country music group the Statler Brothers. It was released in October 1970 as the first single and title track from the album Bed of Rose's. The song reached its popularity peak in the winter of 1971, eventually reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, peaking at number nine. It also reached #58 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #51 on the Australian Singles Chart (Go-Set). A cover version by Irish singer/songwriter Daniel O'Donnell was also recorded for his 1990 album Daniel O'Donnell - Favourites. Tanya Tucker also recorded a slightly modified version of it, included on 'The Best Of Tanya Tucker', released in 1982 under MCA records.
Bed of Rose's is the fourth studio album by the Statler Brothers and the first one recorded for Mercury Records. One of two singles from the album, "Bed of Rose's" reached #9 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.
Jimmy Fortune (born March 11, 1955, in Williamsburg, Virginia) is an American country music singer from Staunton, Virginia. Fortune sang tenor for The Statler Brothers for 21 years, and wrote the song "Elizabeth" for the group. After The Statler Brothers retired, he continues to perform as a solo artist.
The Statler Brothers were an American country music, gospel, and vocal group formed in 1955. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don Reid (4) and Harold Reid) are actual brothers and none has the surname of Statler. They named themselves after a brand of facial tissue they had noticed in a hotel room. In 1964, they began singing backup for Johnny Cash. In the mid-1970's, they ceased performing with Cash and began a successful recording career in their own right. The group disbanded and retired after completing a farewell tour on October 26, 2002.

LYRICS:
She was called a scarlet woman by the people
Who would go to church but left me in the streets
With no parents of my own, I never had a home
But an eighteen year old boy has got to eat
She found me outside one Sunday morning
Begging money from a man I didn't know
She took me in and wiped away my childhood
A woman of the streets this lady Rose
This bed of roses that I lay on
Where I was taught to be a man
This bed of roses where I'm livin'
Is the only kind of life I'll understand
She was a handsome woman just thirty-five
Who was spoken to in town by very few
She managed a late evening business
Like most of the town wished they could do
And I learned all the things that a man should know
From a woman not approved of, I suppose
She died knowing that i really loved her
Of life's bramble bush I picked a rose
This bed of roses that I lay on
Where I was taught to be a man
This bed of roses where I'm livin'
Is the only kind of life I'll understand
This bed of roses that I lay on
Where I was taught to be a man
This bed of roses where I'm livin'
Is the only kind of life I'll understand
They still could hold a tune even in their golden years and they could run circles around a lot of the young ones that claim to be entertainers today. RIP Harold 🌅🇦🇺🙏
And Lew.
K-Rose it’s meeee, your country music diva- Marybeth Maybell 😊
LOVE these guys! In the 60's, 70's, 80's and now! Awesome group of men who sang songs that made sense and weren't all about trucks and 1/2 naked women!
Harold Reid is making music in heaven with his Baritone Voice Dead @ 80 @ his home in Staunton VA where he and his brothers grew up.
RIP Harold I have some great memories of all your #1 hits and may God Bless you and your family.

The Statler Brothers Farewell Concert October 26, 2002, at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia, just 85 miles from our hometown of Staunton. The four of us-Harold, Phil, Jimmy and Don-gathered for the last time in the aisle of our bus, fully dressed for the stage, and huddled, this time with our good and close friend Jimmy Dean, and had our regular pre-show prayer for the last time. www.amazon.com./Farewell-Concert-Statler-Brothers/dp/B00BH4172I/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2WXJ93UB6ZUXF&dchild=1&keywords=the+statler+brothers+cd&qid=1610774670&s=movies-tv&sprefix=the+statler%2Caps%2C653&sr=1-1
