I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am for these videos, Dr Nic. I always had trouble with maths in school, because I just went into panic mode, and couldn't focus after that. In fact, just looking at your exercises now, at 62, sent me into panic mode - I felt physically sick. But then, you worked through each exercise, and I got it! I worked out the practise exercises by myself, and felt so good. I was always good at spelling and grammar, and could do all of my times tables (which were on the back of our exercise books), but these types of exercises just confused me. I'm going to work through all of your videos. It's never too late to learn what we missed at school. Thank you!
These are really great videos that clearly explain the, "Order of Operations." I'm 80 years old and never learned this in school because it was never taught to us.
Hi. I would like to know the answer to the question that bothers me. I read that in math division can be written with 3 different characters: ÷ , : , /. Additionally, a/b denotes a common fraction. Can they be mixed together? e.g.: a ÷ b : c /d. For example, a/b : c/d is the division of two fractions. Or should I rather understand it as: a : b : c : d.
Use of symbols does differ in places. I would not use the : as a division but rather as a ratio. The answer to the division "a ÷ b" is the fraction a/b.
No, this is a common misunderstanding. Addition and subtraction are at the same level and are performed left to right. Video 1 in this series explains this. One way to think about it is that subtraction is the same as adding a negative number, so the expression is 70, -60, and 3 added together.
This is where the bodmas rule is misleading. Addition and subtraction are really the same thing. Subtraction is adding a negative number. Similarly multiplication and division are the same thing. Dividing by 2 is the same as multiplying by 0.5. In some schools here we use BEMA instead as that reduces confusion.
That is a common mistake, which is why I put it in there. If you look at my first video about order of operations you can see that within addition and subtraction you work from left to right. 70 - 60 + 3 is the same as 70 + -60 +3 and we can move them around to 70 + 3 + -60. The negative sign only belongs to the 60 and not to the 3. This is why I do not use BODMAS as it makes people think that addition comes before subtraction whereas they are the some level. If you work out the answer on a calculator you will find that it gives 13.
Hi Dr. Nic! I hope you’re doing well. I’ve been having a hard time on a particular task can I perhaps ask you to provide me examples on how do I write two world problems involving the four operations using the following values? 1600 250 30 Thank you.
Bravo! That's called Mentor ❤
Thank you Dr. ❤🔥

Thanks for that. It’s lovely to hear I am helping someone nearly as young as I am. ;)

I'm happy these are helping you.
Thank you So much for this video!! Very Helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
This explanation is great! From this mathematically challenged Mum I thank you. By watching your videos I’ll be better prepared to help my children.
That is so good to hear! I love to hear I am helping mathematically challenged mums.
Thank You Dr
You are most welcome

💌👍👍👍 Many thanks 💯🌹🌹🌹.
Most welcome
Nicely explained
Thank you so much 🙂
your great ,I hope your doing well.
Thanks, you too!
Dr.nic I want multiplication in integer
Amazing 🤩😋😍❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 😋
👍👍👍👍
Thanks
Maths is not easy for me. But I like it. Good explanation 👌
Glad to hear that
I am having final exams next week so thanks for this video
Good luck!!
Shouldnt 60+3 be added first before subracring it then from 70?

But according to bodmas rule
Division comes first then multiplication
I am confused plz clear my doubt

@@DrNic BEMA??Is this valid all over
And Where is "S" ,, what is E
BEMA is brackets first, followed by Exponents, then Multiplication and division done left to right, then addition and subtraction done left to right.
0rder of operation 1 please thank you

I don’t know what a world problem is.
@@DrNic you know what he means. stop being a dic
একটা পাঁচ কে যোগ বিয়োগ গুণ ভাগ করে 20 হবে কি করে
Sorry can't help you

Yeah math is everywhere but we only need addition division multiplication and subtraction no need 2 to the power of whatever
10+67*2=10+134=144
