As I got older, I watched the other clones like Date Movie and Disaster Movie, thinking they got worse and worse, and putting it down to me being older. I think it was Mel Brooks who said that a good parody movie works when you can still laugh at the jokes even if you’ve never heard of the original source material. And that’s what Seltzer and Friedberg don’t get about their own humor. There are reasons why something like South Park and Rick and Morty were so successful.

I remember Vampires Suck way too well for something I've only seen twice. When I was 14, I used to think the Black Eyed Peas joke was hilarious but maybe only if you aren't expecting it. Another joke I remember laughing at because it caught me off guard was when Charlie says, with such seriousness, in reference to the recent vampire killings, "You know what that means: The Kardashians are in town." I think this parody is one of their least bad ones because there is a (sorta) cohesive plot and there are jokes.

Time passed, names fade unfortunately it’s not about skin color. That takes away from their accomplishments as well as the fact that she said their movie was extremely popular financially. A few years ago, Craig Mazin wrote a blog article about the Superhero Movie failure. At first, it was called Superhero! and it spoofed only Spider-Man and a bit of Batman Begins. After the first test screening, people complained that the movie was lacking pop culture references and current movie spoofs. Mazin said something like, "Basically, they were asking for things that make them hate those movies - that's when I knew we were f***ed." That explains the reshoots with the Fantastic 4 spoof (that I found quite funny, to be honest), the X-Men spoof, and the pop culture references (Facebook, MySpace, Two Girls One Cup).

one thing i didnt know as a german kid watching these.. they literally changed and added jokes in the german dubs that werent there before. i thought the bad parody movies were better than they actually were until i rewatched them years after.

that’s actually so interesting! i’d love to see how they change the humor to fit different cultures/comedy styles. i didn’t even think about that!
