- " Parenting RUclipsr Ruby Franke and her business parter Jodi Hildebrandt, who pleaded guilty to child abuse charges that stemmed from one of Franke's children escaping Hildebrandt's house in August to beg a neighbor for help, have been sentenced to prison. Each could serve as much as 30 years, the prosecutor said after the hearing, the most severe penalty available under Utah law.
Franke has been sentenced to four consecutive prison terms, CBS News affiliate KUTV reported Tuesday, which could range from one to 15 years each. The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole will determine prison time, KUTV reported. Franke has 30 days to appeal the decision. Hildebrandt received the same sentence of four consecutive prison terms, KUTV reported, which could again range from one to 15 years each. Like Franke, Hildebrandt's prison time will be determined by the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole. Franke, who gave parenting advice on her now-defunct "8 Passengers" RUclips channel, and Hildebrandt, who operated a counseling business called ConneXions Classroom, were each initially charged with six counts of aggravated child abuse, a second-degree felony. Each count carried a potential penalty of one to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. While reading the sentencing recommendation, state prosecutor Eric Clarke compared the environment Franke's children faced to a "concentration camp-like setting," and said that Franke "committed horrible acts of child abuse." I heard her husband Kevin started crying when she addressed him as the love of his life & I have no doubt in my mind that she was gas lighting & IMO while he's not as guilty as Ruby is with regard to the level of abuse these 2 kids suffered at Jodi's home, because Jodi has a history of dividing families & cutting the fathers/husbands completely out of the picture. He is guilty for the abuse that was escalating while he was still living in the home, after he too joined Connexions. I hope he never gets those kids back.

They were separated from what I gather. I’m sure if he had done something criminal, he’d have been charged as well.
He was around at first when people use to call child services on the house. Then when Jodi entered the picture she got ruby to separate from him I think it was slightly over a year by the time the neighbor called the cops and these 2 got arrested then he popped up again

She was a terrible mother long before Hildebrandt came along! Putting a 6 year old in charge of their own lunch and making them sleep in the bathroom when sick rather than taking care of them. Hildebrandt is evil and may well have drawn Franks deeper into her abuse but she always had it in her. She said what she thought people wanted to hear, what she hopes will keep her older children from turning their backs on her. I hope she serves the max sentence.
Completely agree. So many things she did were awful long before. Her oldest was experiencing blurred vision and she delayed taking her to hospital. She also once only gave 1/2 of the kids Xmas gifts while she had the 2 youngest watch . She is awful

Most mental health professionals agree that Ruby's "speech" was well planned and manipulative. The abusive parenting behavior of Ruby was happening long before she met Jodi. My prayer is they stay behind bars until both children reach adulthood.

Yes I agree with you. Ruby is manipulating the court which likes people to express regret. Did you see her reaction when her lawyer said Ruby refuted her previous beliefs? Nah. Nope. I saw her RUclips videos 8 passengers and I saw a mother who wanted complete control and enjoyed punishing her children. It was chilling. Then she found Jodi who gave her religious and terrible therapeutic advice that justified her pleasure in abusing her kids. I was angry when she told the court the police and court had saved her and her kids. No Ruby! Your children were saved from you and Jodi because the youngest boy escaped. The neighbor wept as he called the police. You and Jodi were the psychopaths and were arrested and jailed to protect your damaged children. I hope the court doesn’t buy any of this. Neither of these women should ever be allowed around children again. Those 2 youngest children were near death according to the prosecutor.

Never understood how quickly society will call out the mother when the father or boyfriend is guilty of harming the children like this and regardless if she’s present or not, (at work, hospitalized, in another state, dead even) she will be dragged. I listened to Kevin’s 1st LE interview, and he IS LYING! At that point he wasn’t sure how much LE knew. That was evident when he completely changed his tune in interview 2.

That story gave me goosebumps Christina who in their right mind would want to lock a child in the basement and starve a harmless child like that . In hearing Ruby’s statement, my first impression, as we are taught to do, is to think, “Oh, she certainly has said all the right heartfelt words, I should now forgive and accept her”! However, deep down inside I’m not totally comfortable with that decision. I really respect & appreciate Christina’s knowledge & opinions because she not only speaks from the heart but she also knows life! I know that she researches facts carefully on the crime investigations she reports on but she has also lived quite a life to where she can speak from experience. I really appreciate that Christina has chosen this career, I depend on her for facts & opinions because I can trust her. With that said, I’m glad she came out with the opinion that she has on Ruby’s statement, regardless that it might not be a popular one. Like I mentioned, I too, deep down inside, regardless of Ruby’s flowery words, felt it difficult to trust that she meant any of it.

I grew up with a step-mother who was a master manipulator.
I didn't go through everything those precious children went through.
But she knew, like Ruby, the right things to say and still called me her little girl.

Christina, you are spot on!! I Thought the very same thing. I believe the sentence was extremely light for both women considering the abuse could have been fatal in some of the methods. Her face didn't reflect what her lawyer was saying when he talked about her realizing she was wrong.

I have heard her statement many times now and in my opinion, she deserves a Grammy. She is still casting blame on everybody but herself. She is NOT the victim here. She is the one who did the brainwashing here. She is the who led her own children to believe they deserved that kind of treatment. She is the one who let her own children to believe that they were evil. As a mother, myself, my job is to protect my children, and in my opinion, she not only deserve to be punished in the same way that Jody is even more so. This whole case makes me so angry and I don’t think any amount of gel time is going to rehabilitate her because even when she had her RUclips channel not sending your six-year-old to lunch to school??? My 14-year-old has forgotten his lunch, and I have brought it to school. She deserves to have the books thrown at her.

Christina you were the first person I subscribed too when I got on this app. I heard your prison stories and all you went through. I am a big fan also for true crime. I love your content and your advice. I like the way you think cause I’m so serious I’m thinking the same way. I also did time. I did almost 2 yrs back in 2013. It was so hard for me especially being away Fr my kids. I went through a lot. I also have lots of stories I wish I could tell you and everyone. I got released and changed my whole life around… but I went through something so tragic the first day I was released. Maybe one day I can be interviewed by you and tell my story being locked up here in Texas. Anyways.. yes I feel the same way you feel about these two.
