The film, as described by the directors themselves, is an inverse of a detective story; the dude doesn't investigate, the dude is investigated.

Definitely one of my favorite movies. Always a comfort of mine any time I hear the Man In Me it always brings back the memories of late nights watching this movie with the hazy influence of some cheap weed and a little bong. Good times good times.
I think my go to stoner accent is literally Jeff Bridges in this movie. When I want to emulate a stoner, I just do Bridges in this movie with more of a doofy caricature.

I have a rule that I don’t affect others negatively is all. I’ve let go of chasing “love” & straining myself with effort in stuff that I consider a waste of time. I just wanna chill man. It sucks cause like The Dude, you expect others to be chill cause ya know, “treat others how you wanna be treated”. But life is super unfair and that is definitely not a universal law lol. Law enforcement usually are jerks. It’s bad enough average People aren’t open minded usually. They look down on “day drinking” or using something that is “illegal”. Like come on man. Life is too short. Why care about some dumb societal judgement? They often do without thinking. Sheeple man. A piece of paper says this is illegal? So? Why don’t you do your own research on said subject/substance & decide for yourself instead of random BS people say or the GOV propaganda says. If you’re “following orders” just because you’re supposed to then you should probably rethink life cause like, when I hear “I’m just following orders” I think of the Nuremberg trials & nazis... man I love the big Lebowski so much. I don’t think it’s so much a “stoner” thing. It’s more of a “slacker” thing.
It's a movie. It's well written. It's not real. I mean you could live like the Dude, but you gotta be ready to sacrifice a lot of things especially peer pressure by society. Dont hate the weed, give it a try again, small doses with a nice favourite song would do the trick.

Welp, I have to admit, never smoked pot, or anything for that matter, I mostly just live my life trying to relax and keep my head down, getting my work done and coming home to learn what I can about anything I can. Having lived like this for years now I have noticed that a lot about the people around me, and as weird as it sounds I see a lot of people as dogs that look the the ground instead of what is in front of them, doesn't matter how fast you run if you look down and not in front of you. I have been going off and looking towards what makes me a happy man, that is what matters to me, but looking around me I can't tell if others look for that. I can relate to the dude in this way.
personally, The only stoner comedy's i like besides The Big Lebowski are a few of the Cheech and Chong Movie's. Manly Nice Dreams, Next Movie and Up in Smoke.

I have watched this move on a regular basis for almost 15 years now. There´s no youtuber out there telling me something about it, i didn´t stumble upon myself. I´m curious about what you might have to say about it after some more years though, it never did stop growing on me.
I think general idea of this movie is to be smart over dumbest premise. Just Cohens being narcissistically curious about how far they can go before they make really bad movie (cause they so talented, you know). Love their stuff, but it didn't clicked with me tbh. Maybe i should watch it again when stoned

When I was 22 a mugged someone for their backpack. Inside was the big lebowski and donnie darko. it was the best raid I have ever done...Both movies are amazing. Definitely worth the steal.
I think the main problem with "stoner comedies" is that they're all designed to be funny to stoners, but stoners will literally laugh at fucking anything. So to someone who isn't high your movie's not gonna be very funny or worth watching

When you smoke it for a while you quit tripping out. I suggest smoke less and keep in mind that there’s no reason that you have to live like that
