I love looking at Sergio’s original art, and I especially love how these videos give us a new perspective to enjoy the comics anew after all these years! Thank you so much Darren!
Thanks Kevin! I love love loved looking at the art of Rufferto II! Even rewatching the video today I saw a couple things that I didn’t notice last week. So next time I get a chance to take a look at another set of original art, I’ve already got something else I’m looking out for. 😀 cheers! 🍻
I loved Groo as a kid in the UK. I remember picking up THAT issue and laughing in the comic book shop. I would buy as much Groo as I could. Loved the art and the humour.
@@GrooTube I would make special trips to South Wimbledon to my piss coloured comic shop and pour over the Groo comics, absolutely enthralled by the absurd characters in their opulence and violent ferocity and the glib humour. It was a smorgasbord of joy 🤣 thank you so much for posting this and for reminding me of the joy my 12 year old self felt discovering this wonderful world.
2:28 and look at the ABSENT lines as well, like above his eyelids to almost define it as a highlight by the line being absent - Sergio is just a genius!
Thank you! Yeah, I found it so great just looking at the art that the story … though it’s a great and important Groo story … that didn’t even matter. 😀
I’m glad you enjoyed it! This was actually one of the first time I looked at Sergio’s original art for a whole comics like this. I’ve found more and may do another video like this in the future. Take care Ares!
Wow! Really love your passion for the art. I love these early Groo issues. I have a page from Hell on Earth and you can see how much the thickness of Sergios lines changed vs these older Groo issues.
I was looking through a bunch of Groo issues and it looks like Sergio draws every army in the series differently. It might make a great video to do a review and comparison of all the different ways Sergio has draw the different warriors Groo had killed/led. 😂
I thought you were going to be looking at the Artist addition based on the title. Do you have that book? I assume there'd be a video. If you DON'T you must get one. It's what pushed me to seek out a complete set of all things Sergio
Yeah I remember I was getting into comics and walked into a Bdolton bookstore with my dad in the mall and saw this and the cover art grabbed me. I asked my dad to get me this issue and been a fan since. I thought this issue came out in 86 that’s why I said 6 and I was born 80 so yeah early 87 sounds right. I was a little one having a blast with Groo and his new dog!

Great memories! I too remember the dingy little comic shop downtown where I used to buy Groo here in Canada. Cheers! 😀

Thanks! Going to hit 1000 subscribers sometime soon I hope. 😉

Sure! Thanks for that! Always something else to notice and appreciate when Sergio is at the pen. 😀
Now you make me yearn for a B&W Groo reprint of all the original comics! They ARE better than the coloured ones. You made me a believer.
There’s something about the black and white original artwork, eh? But I never thought that B&W reprints would ever be an option… I wonder…
Those black sections that have a gradient into white are pretty impressive when you realize he did all that by hand.
Oh yeah! Are you talking about the hatching and stippling? Most impressive indeed! 😀
This is my favourite episode of Grootube! Great observations of the art. Today I'm headed out to find some Groos I'm missing!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun to make too! 😉
This was a nice showcase. I always enjoy when you deep dive into a single issue, and having the original art was an added bonus.

This is well appreciated. Thank you for bringing up these wonderful treasures of memory.❤❤

Thanks Chris! Yeah, the difference in Sergio’s pen in Groo over the past forty years is quite remarkable… Another video ideas?! 😉

I do have it. It’s just so good I don’t know how to make a video worthy of it… yet ;)
@@GrooTube I did a call with a friend recently where both had an Artist Editions open and went through it together. Very enjoyable. Food for thought
Do you know what tool Sergio uses to ink, is it a dip pen maybe?
Also, do you work in the comics field? Because you seem to know a lot about it.
My first Groo issue when I was 6.
7 actually.
Phew! When it was six years old, I was thinking… super young for a Groo reader! But seven? That’s reasonable. 🤣
