Nothing wrong with 'Lifeblood' - 1985, The Love of Richard Nixon, Solitude Sometimes Is, Empty Souls, Always/Never and, in particular I Live To Fall Asleep - all exquisite.
Nicky: "I don't think we've had such a pitiful opposition leader in my lifetime and i've seen some good ones and some bad ones" BBC: "Anyway, moving on......" Good effort Nick!
@@lemsip207 He seems decent to me. I saw him around at the Hay festival one or two years over a decade ago, on one occasion talking to Robert Peston. I am on the left and do not think he was an effective leader, unfortunately. However, I blame the media and the public for its myopia in opposing anything remotely social democratic that is designed to make life better for the majority. Miliband paved the way for Corbyn, the once in a hundred years chance to change direction for Britain that the electorate rejected under FPTP. He was well intentioned, sincere and not motivated by self interest.
@@eightiesmusic1984 Yes he did by opening up the leadership election to people who weren't party members as long as they registered, paid £3 to the party and didn't belong to different political party.
@@lemsip207 I was not talking about the mechanics of it. Corbyn would have won even without new members joining. Liz Kendall did very poorly in the election for leader if I recall correctly and was seen as the candidate of the right wing of the Labour Party.
@@eightiesmusic1984 The mechanics of it also played a part. It was closed between him and Andy Burnham and at one point it looked like the latter was going to win.
I think it is very strong as an album, it's got a very homogenic sound with a perfectly fitting artwork. Maybe Nixon was not the best choice as leading single, 1985, ASFD, ILTFA, ES, or even SSI would all have been better. The album is perfect for a really cold but sunny winterday.
@@user-vh6ts9uf6cThe reissue does make it quite a bit stronger! I would say that Know Your Enemy did have the hype but just didn’t live up to it like this is my truth did
Whats all this "what they doing on this show" comments!? Nicky and Richy once went on Childrens TV talking to puppets!! They are band who want to a promote themselves, they haven't changed. Lifeblood is amazing BTW
Well done to Nicky for saying that history has been rewritten now the 70's is just being portrayed as strikes and rubbish piling up. Unemployment in the 70's rose but not as sharply as it did in the 80's.
The peak year for disposable income in Britain was 1976. The oil shock of 1973 did not help the economy and unions were wrong to call strikes without democratic ballots. One man ( or woman)one vote is the only Tory union reform I agree with. My parents paid around £7,000 for a semi detached house in 1978. Go back even further and a semi detached house could be bought for £450 in the mid 1930s, about two years wages on average income. Council housing meant decent quality, affordable property to rent in the 1970s until the Tories gerrymandered votes with the right to buy legislation in 1980 and prohibited councils from replacing council houses they were forced to sell off. Social cohesion was enhanced by white collar and blue collar workers living side by side on council estates too, unlike the polarisation of today.
I never understood the hatred towards lifeblood. I love that album. Makes me sad that they dislike it too. To Repel Ghosts is one of my favorite songs.
I actually quite liked Lifeblood. It's certainly not up there with their best albums, but it's still a good album, I particularly like the cold/industrial production of it.
Wish they stop hating on lifeblood! It's a great album! Just cuz its a softer album doesn't make it bad! Know your enemy is probably their worst but even that's better than what most bands can produce
the montage cut off completely their best album, the holy bible...what a coincidence. I like Lifeblood by the way.. I thought theyd say send away the tigers was their failure.
They love SATT ...don't know why. Too many albums from 2000 have been poor, it's as simple as that. They now do one or two good songs per album rather than a good album with some crap
That Lifeblood-Bitching's really got to stop! Lifeblood for me is right up there with THB, GT and EMG with a tendency to be Nr. 1. There's just one song on Lieblood which is not so good (Always/Never), the rest is brilliant. THB, GT and EMG all have at least 2 Songs i often skip. Really bad albums for me are KYE (1 standout (ocean spray), 2 quite good ones (SWSS, FTS) and the rest is rubbish), GATS (4 good songs, 6 stinkers) and to a degree TIMTTMY (1-5 awesome then it goes down down down).
just what the fuck are the manics doing on this show ? they lost their way musically after Lifeblood, that was actually a good album. Everything since has been shit with the sole exception of your love alone is not enough. Now I hear their shit on COOP radio, now that is fucking depressing.
The Manics lost their way decades ago - I always thought the (dreadful) single "masses against the classes" was when they really should have called it a day.
Notice how " Faster" was cut out. I guess the BBC learned their lesson..
Such lovely guys. Nicky Wire for Prime Minister - I'd vote for him tomorrow

Think you've got the rise tinted on. I'm a big fan of the manics, lifeblood was by no means their best though.
I love Lifeblood. It's a very relaxing album.
Glasnost , to repel ghosts ...
Love the Manics, and I owe them so much. But I couldn't take my eyes off Susanna Reid during that interview.

Robert Green He means Ed Miliband who is nothing like his media persona or the way he 's portrayed by the Tory press when you see him in real life.

If "Lifeblood" is a failure then I'm a hermaphrodite called Boris. It's a masterpiece of pop songwriting
Lifeblood is NOT a failure. IMO it's easily their best album, I love it. It's sad they just cast it aside.
Amen.
I think Lifeblood is a masterpiece. I love it so much. It's my second favorite.
Agree. And scored them two number 2 singles. 1985 is a beast of a tune
wow i wonder why they hated it?
@@user-vh6ts9uf6cI still can’t understand why the singles did that well but the album only got to no 13??
Another Lifeblood fan here. New album is one of their best. Saw them live last night at the Barrowlands and they blew me away
I love Lifeblood. It's one of my 'writing music' albums (I'm a writer). It has that 'liminal' quality, hypnotic almost.
Lifeblood is an amazing album, start to finish
I don't know, "Lifeblood" is one of my favorites. I know, it's not strong as an album, but there are really good songs there.

It got them two number 2 singles for goodness sake. I thought it was brilliant. Cardiff Afterlife and 1985 are absolute gems.

one of their best albums ever. Come back to Boston soon!!
Solitude Sometimes Is is an incredible song.
Nicky must have at least 100 suit jackets, I've never seen him wear the same thing twice
Lifeblood was actually a really good album to be fair.
"When I listen to an album with 16 songs I drift off", not if you're a proper music fan.
It depends on the quality of the album. Doesn't matter if it's ten songs or twenty songs.
They may hate Lifeblood but Empty Souls is arguably my favourite Manics track
Susannah Reid is one of the most beautiful woman on earth.
You actually can see the female newsreader's pants at about 7:24 of the video. I see Paris, I see France, I see Susannah Reid's underpants.
Lifeblood - good album - some great tracks
which song worked best at Barrowlands?
lifeblood is class,
+Den Brodie but James is never wrong
Wish they stop hating on lifeblood! It's a great album! Just cuz its a softer album doesn't make it bad! Know your enemy is probably their worst but even that's better than what most bands can produce
obvious the interviewers knew nothing about the band.
F*********CK!!!!! I'm from Glasgow and keep bloody missing them! I'm actually gutted. Seen them 6 times live and they are just incredible!
Pretty, well dressed and scrubbed up well. And Susanna Reid looks alright too.
Thought he was gonna say 'Gold Against the Soul.' I remember liking 'Lifeblood' quite a lot when it came out.
Cut wales a drift,what a line.
1985 was a good one too:))))

Always/Never is great!!
i have to agree mate...i love lifeblood and from purely a manics maudlin album that captures where they were at the time
Imo TIMTTMY is their best album. Pretty much every song on it is amazing (minus maybe I'm Not Working) but everything except that is amazing music.
was there too.... of the new stuff show me the wonder and 30 year war
i liked the knees ... although came here for MSP
intpop you can't see Bill Turnbull's knees!
Lifeblood and Know Your Enemy Dix gets really leave marks on me as albums tbh
*didnt
You mean they're upset they dare like bands and artists outside the "alternative"? OH NO.
Likewise I thought is was a great album

Cardiff Afterlife. Nixon, Emily, 1985..a v.good album. Gold + KYE are the worst
