    Since some people have been asking for it, here are the budgets adjusted for inflation (as of 2020):
    Mean Streets: $1.7 Million
    Goodfellas: $49 Million
    Gangs Of New York: $143 Million

      I feel the irishman would have been better for comparison cos it's his most expensive film to date. $300m+ if I'm not wrong. He's also exploring similar characters and themes in all three films.

    I didn't expect cranes to be used this way, especially in pair with Range Rover

    • @gregorylagrange
      @gregorylagrange 3 года назад

      Because of football games, I had an image in my mind that they would have some kind of motor on the rigging the camera was attached to. But then I have to remember what year the movie was made when he said that it was a range rover that was making the camera move. So I said, oh yeah, they didn't have anything like that back then.
      But I wonder if that is where the inspiration for what they use at football games came from.

      @fabssta814 3 года назад +1

      It is probably because of the weight of the camera that they couldn’t use the spider cam set used in sports broadcasts or maybe it was also a noise concern (something like the one mentioned for mean streets) - by using a rope and the car the source of the noise /engine sound is far away especially important for the first segment (close up of the dead Liam Neeson Character).

    I noticed that usually the movie in the middle of this, each stuck the most with me (Pulp Fiction, Memento, Goodfellas...).
    So directors seem to be in their prime, just before getting so successful, that they get to full of themselfes and can do whatever they want.
    Restrictions are good for creativity in filmmaking, it seems. :D

    I'd be interested to hear this same approach on budget analytics in the future on directors like Oliver Stone, Tim Burton and Wes Anderson. Especially Tim Burton on films like Beetlejuice, Batman, and Sweeney Todd, in my humble opinion.
    This was a nice breakdown on how Scorsese worked around these budgetary constraints of his earlier work and how he did it when he secured a bigger budget later on in his directorial output, whether it was Gangs of New York or The Departed, among others in his later career.
    In any event, I look forward to the next installments on this nice series of yours, so keep up the good work on them!!!

There is no official number, but some have said it's the most expensive soundtrack in film history, possibly accounting for more than half the budget (includes two Rolling Stones songs, Dean Martin, Donovan, George Harrison, etc.).
