Amazing, this was exactly what I was looking for to help my parents add a live edge walnut mantel to their home! Thank you for taking the time to film and write out the instructions!
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ruclips.net/user/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Came out great Shawn. Loved that you showed the challenges you faced. Sometimes all we see is what worked. Makes me feel better about when things go wrong in my projects
Agreed, very solid idea! I was just trying to use some of their concrete anchor sleeves but those threads would have been even nicer. Great article on your website too - very thorough!
Looks great! How deep do the drop pin anchors go into the brick? And how deep do you crank in the lg bolts? Thanks! I have a very heavy oak beamI want to hang.
Looks great Shawn! That's a pretty striking difference from what was there before. For your whitewashing, was it just watered down white paint, or was there more to it than that?
Wow Shown 😱 this is why i became a woodworker ! All of the colors and the grain , just amasing and breathless . Unfortunate that you had to bang the mantel to get it in to it’s place ! Hopefully it was’nt damaged 😬 All in all exellent job , love it and breath taking 👍🏼❤️🇨🇦😜😎
Thanks for another interesting video. I always enjoy your site. Do you know where that cross to the right of your fireplace came from? My wife has one that looks very much like the one on your wall. It was given to her by a friend from the Dominican Republic.
That looks cool, Shawn! I've never seen those anchors where you can just use bolts. That's cool! That piece of hickory has a lot of interesting things going on.
I got a question about doing this. So my fireplace is brick just like yours but the previous home owner tiled over the brick. I Imagine I'll have to drill through the tile and sink the sleeves deeper into the brick. How important is it to get the sleeves centered into the brick? In my case there isn't any reference for me to know where in the brick I'd be drilling. I'm going in blind essentially. Any input?
I liked the mantle and I'm going to do something similar. My question for you is: how did you white-wash your brick? It looks great! We really want to do that to our yellow/brown brick, and I like how your project turned out. Thanks so much for the video and the help!
Whitewashing brick fireplaces seems to be a thing this week. Did you happen to see Gunflint Design's video this yesterday (or maybe it was earlier today)? That video goes into more detail about the whitewashing process since it wasn't about the mantel.. Enjoyed your video as always!

What material did you use for the poly coat?

Wow, that piece of hickory is really beautiful! Kudos.
Yeah, it has a lot of character. Thanks for watching.
Live edge looks great. I just built my mantle from an oak barn beam I reclaimed from an 1800 horse barn I used to own.
Top notch project and a great video. You have a great voice for the voice-overs. Cheers!
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.
That turned out great! Looks fantastic!

Shawn, I suggested the metal dowel idea, but man, cutting off bolts was a genius idea!
Good job man!
Yeah, i thought that was a good idea as well. Malecki actually gave me that tip.
Agreed, very solid idea! I was just trying to use some of their concrete anchor sleeves but those threads would have been even nicer. Great article on your website too - very thorough!
This is a pretty timely video for us! We have slab of ambrosia maple drying for our mantle! Thanks for the how to!
Nice! That should make for a cool mantel.
Beautiful as usual!
Thanks Fred.
Well done my friend! That hickory is some tough stuff! Turned out awesome! - Scott
Thanks. It’s definitely hard, but beautiful.
Precioso trabajo.
Un saludo desde Alcorcón

I have a very heavy oak beamI want to hang.
Awesome project! I love the way the brick turned out
Yeah, we like it as well. Thanks for watching.
How deep in the brick did you drive the threaded rebar?
The silicone on on the bolts is a good tip.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you

Thanks man. 50/50 paint/water. Pretty simple.
What paint did you use?
Great tutorial, and very well articulated and done. Just plain great. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I’m sorry. I don’t know where the cross came from.

The hickory is amazing. Yeah, the anchors are set with a Red Head set tool.

Beautiful live edge mantel Shawn! Thanks for sharing the video.😎👍JP
Thanks JP
😎
What do you suggest on installing one on drywall?
How long are the red head anchors?
Looks really nice bro. Nicely done
Thanks!
Use a hypoid circular saw for cutting that slab of hickory. Makita makes a nice one!
Looks great!
Thanks

I have a slab, similar to yours, how do you know where to drill so you dont nick the chimney flute?
Don’t drill deeper than the bricks
@@StoneandSonsWorkshop how do you know where the bricks end?
Thanks so much!!!
Nice
Thanks

Lol. No I didn’t, but I will now.
Nice work! How did you manage to drill the holes into the hickory at the exact same angle as the support rods? Wow.
Man I need to install one for a customer but I can't drill holes in the concrete any suggestions anyone???
Looks great ! Wrong blade
I got those same saw horses and they are really cheap.
But they do the job 😁
I did it too. This is what I used Woodglut designs for
