How to Make String Trellis
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 май 2019
- This trellis is perfect for light weight plants such as growing beans, and delicate vines. Only strings, and stakes are required! Keep in mind this trellis is not meant to last for years especially because I used a natural material.

I love this for the therapeutic value. I have some jutes, some broken broom sticks and quite a bit of bean seeds. I think I will try this. I think I will do it over the course of the next few weeks though. Thanks for sharing.
I saw some folks who used those kind of stakes . Because the stakes are really hard to get deep to be sturdy with the weight of vines, they used a short thicker stalk at the base of the taller ones and zip tied them together. They said that keeps the trellis from falling once your vines really get going. Just a tip.
Farisa Smith Thanks for sharing! Hopefully vines I’m growing won’t be too much for the trellis, but will keep your tip in mind. :)
Farisa Smith , That’s how I use them.👍🏾
Thank you so much - a million times thank you! I have sweet potato and even though it's not a climbing plant it's really dominating my garden and I know the rest of my plants will benefit from this! It's really taking over and I was panicking until I saw this! A million times thank you!
Allowing sweet potatoes to climb up is a great use of space! Glad you stopped by. :)
I'm so glad I found your video! I've been trying to find an easy way to make a trellis.
I'm getting my little back yard spruced up, in time for Spring.
Thank you!
Thank you. I did not want to spend a ton of money for a wood trellis and didn't want to use cheap plastic. Your string trellis is the perfect solution.
My goodness Wendi, you are an incredibly patient woman! Please be Safe and Healthy throughout the 2020 growing season. Happy Gardening! -Bob...
Just made one with bamboo poles against my fence-thank you! Completely free with supplies I had and can't wait to grow on it!
Ooh dear 🎉🎉thank you so much as I have a small space narrow space but love to grow roses but because the width is so small I can’t fit treilis too Now I got idea how to put my roses vertically thanks a ton . May god bless you!
Very useful. Me gots poles, string and scissors already. Gonna make me a bean trellis tomorrow. Thanks.
I was thinking that maybe one could find some discarded fishing web down at the harbor.
Oh wow thank you so much! My peas, pole beans, and other climbing veggies are just sprouting and I really didn't want to spend a fortune buying a pre-made trellis. I will use this technique this year, thank you for sharing =)
Amazing woman... Keep up the good work......
planted cantaloupe and cucumbers this year. I'll be doing this to take up less garden space. thank you 💖
Do you have any pictures after the beans started climbing?
Yes, I would love to see that too!
Awesome-so affordable! Love your idea, and will start it today!
love this my beans need a trellis badly!!!! thank you!
Sameee
Hi. Today I made a trellis as I recalled your video. This is for my Japanese black pumpkin. My first time growing veg on an allotment gardening plot. I did it on a reverse v-shaped on both ends with a stick across, so started with strings down then i built across. Wish i could attach a photo of my trellis
You could easily spend 100’s of dollars buying pre-made trellises for a long wall. This is such a great idea. I’m so excited to do this today.
You explained it so clearly especially for a not so handy and newbie like me. So good. Thank you.
I'm watching so many trellis ideas.
I have a brick walls. I used those metal closed hooks. I drilled correct size holes and used correct plug and screwed the metal hooks. Rock solid and garden wire is really tight. A lot of drilling but it's rock solid too and easily holds a mature, heavy 16 feet wide Star Jasmine and other smaller climbers.
Your idea is fantastic too.
what a great trellis you built. If only I was handy like that.
Thanks for this video. This is my first garden this year and need all the help I can get. This video is very helpful. I have the same stakes you used in this video. So now i know what to do with them .
Love how you describe meditation - it is exactly as you say!
This is very helpful, thanks. I hope mine can hold up my bitter gourds vines up!
Thank you so much
So happy you showed us this, I've been looking for an cheap way to make one for the longest while...thanks!!!
Edisha Joseph You should check out my other video on how to build a cheap trellis too. I’ll leave the link below this video. :)
Thank you so much for this! I just made my own and your video was just what I needed!
Thank,wonderful.
Wendy Phan : Here is a cool idea for keeping bird bath water clean and clear !!!! GROW a philodendron next to your bird bath ; allow the philodendron to cascade into your bird bath !!!! The philodendron puts out roots that suck up all the nutrients in the bird bath water and keep the bird bath water clean and clear !!!! This also works great with fish tanks !!!! I hope I am explaining this clearly enough for everyone to follow and understand !!!!
You can buy now a days a mesh plastic one..but nwez super work👏
Instead of string, you can use construction nylon fence or anti-bird net.
I like this trellis
Very creative
glad i found your channel - very helpful - thanks.
Great ideas.. thanks for the lovely vedio..
I would love to try to do this while im new beginning planting different beans.. & more❤🤗
Where did you buy this big roll of string ? I found only small roll at Home Depot or Lowes.
It's nice I have to learn from you for my yard to planning my tomatoes. Thanks
Thanks for the upload
I love this idea! Thanks for sharing. I love making things my own & love the process of making it as it does feel very peaceful & satisfying.
Glad you see it the same way. It’s like a form of meditation for me then at the end you get a gift of a pretty handmade item for your plants. :)
True
Love you..thanks for helping people grow food easily 💚
Hi! Just found your video and will be using this to train vines! Do you have another video showing how your beans came out?
This is awesome thank you
This is exactly what I was looking for Wendi!! Thank you, thank you!!!
Have fun in the making! :D
BEAUTIFUL !!!!
Thanks for this. I'm about to build a trellis for my beans, and this is very helpful.
How was it? I'm building one for my beans this year
@@craftynatty7240 It worked out well, though a virus got in and killed the beans. Rats!
Great video! Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.
Thank you for making this video!
Lovely! But I think u can use thin metal wire would give u same effect n more easier
This is exactly what I was looking for. Obviously I could try different material but this was a good video. Love it!!! But how far do you put it from the wall
Why didnt you start at the bottom and work your way up?
Excellent
I love this idea
Nice Sharing dear 👌👌
I really want to buy tree collard, when would they be available? thanks for sharing your tips.
That’s very nice. But I use string that is UV resistant. Eventually the Sun will destroy regular string. Cheers !
Hello Wendi, thanks for your video. I am trying to find these stakes at my local Home Depot and another home improvement store, Lowe's. They don't seem to know about them. I am in Toronto Canada. Can you please give some more details or brand name of these stakes? Thanks and regards
How much inch 's apart you put them
Really worth work.
Very helpful
Love it
Lovely trellis. I'll share the video to the stories in the Cropswap IG account.
GreenZebraGardening Thanks! I saw the feature. :)
Hi
I was wondering if the grass jelly vine will be available to purchase soon? I keep checking your store website but it’s not showing it’s available to purchase and was wondering if it’ll be available anytime soon??
Very nice thank you
use 2" galvepipe steel ( like 18" long ) with end cap ( slip over top of stake you are driving and use like pile driver ) can drive bamboo with no splintering . BTW do you have zen meditation vid? (link?)
Excellent info.! I was using wood pieces to nail them together,,,,crazily hard work,,,,,, Your plastic poles seem a lot easier! Thks for sharing! Cheers!!
Exactly lol and I already have these in my garden, just laying around. BRILLIANT idea!!
I purchased several of those long stakes at my local 99cents Only store.
Joshua Hanson that’s great! I found some at my local 99 cents store too, but they seem to have the lighter poles. Maybe yours offer something different.
nice video thank you for sharing.
Good video uploading How To make own trellis at home garden, thanks for sharing such as amazing experience .
Thank you. Happy Trellising!
Great video. You've given a great idea and started an brain storm for me regarding trellis's. Not to mention, you have a nice bottom. :-)
I have a feeling this thing will fall on one side bringing all the rods down when you have heavy leaves on it unless you secure at least three of them on the wall.
Funky music, cool vid, cheers..
What's the material of the string? Is that jute?
Yes it is! Still holding up today! We don’t get a lot of rain.
That trellis is not pounded deep enough, 2” ? Those veggies will pull that over in no time !
That was the initial round of hammering, after which she checked that the spacing was good and then hammered them down another foot or so.
I've nailed some high brid wire onto the backyard wall for growing my spinach vines
Hi ,where you buy the tring?please
They have some at Walmart and home depot.
Why isn't your kale going to seed, or was this filmed some other time of the year?
Heavy garden wires would have worked better, you have lots of slack in the twine and the twine will rot faster also its easier to use and faster .
The whole purpose of this video is “How to make a STRING TRELLiS”!!!!!! Read the video title
You could have just used the wall was already there for support, in old days people use to do with the wall to support the plants?
I like this --- and I wonder if I could grow vines on a fence between us and the neighbors???
Esther If the side has too much sun the string trellis may not last as long. This trellis is for light weight vine. You will need to get more sturdy poles to hold more weight.
@@wendiland Thanks for your helpful reply! :-)
Hello my dear very good idea .i'm sri lanka 🇱🇰 .
That's place you have a trilis
And I got tiger melon seeds
The rain will eat away your string first before eat away you beans I prefer more high quality string for this
Hi honey, thank you for making very creative vedios, love watching you.
Just one more, the pointy side should be up, to stop rain and moisture from getting into the pool, preventing or slowing down rotting, the other end goes in the ground, which easy to pre dig a,small diameter hole or path for it. Please keep making theses educational, inspiring vedios, I will be watching a learning, and making my garden look better on a budget.
Blessings fro Toronto 🌹
👌
