Obsede

The French word "obsédé" has the following connotations beyond its denotative meaning of being besieged or beset:
1. It connotes a sense of being preoccupied, haunted or fixated on something to an excessive degree. When applied to a person, it suggests they are consumed by an idea, thought or feeling in an unhealthy or irrational way.
2. It carries a connotation of being tormented, troubled or oppressed by something, often an unwanted thought or impulse that persists against one's will.
3. When used figuratively, it can connote being overwhelmed or inundated by something, implying a loss of control or perspective due to the intensity of the obsession.
4. There is a connotation of compulsiveness and inability to free oneself from the obsession, suggesting the person is trapped or enslaved by their fixation.
