Thanks Scott! Looking forward to your review. I just received my personal copies today. :) Getz Gilberto is celebrating its big 60th birthday in March. I'll make sure to enjoy a slice of cake when watching your review. hehe
Hi Abey! I was just reading through the book and was thinking about you. The content of the book is incredible. I love that you included the family in this project. It gives us a much more personal, intimate look at this period and really enhances our understanding of the significance of that moment in time. Thank you for putting your heart and soul into this. It's really a wonderful gift for lifelong fans of this very special record.
@@ThePressingMatters Hi Scott, here is a short video of Nick and me at Axpona 2023. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it. Thank you so much for your kind words. I do work with an amazing tight-knit team. :) ruclips.net/video/khtK11e3WQ0/видео.htmlsi=MV0o26cv1YO2lSl6
@@DanielHog13 The book is fantastic, you will enjoy all the background. It really enriches your appreciation of the importance of the record. Although I preordered the record as soon as it was announced, Impex was kind to send an advance reviewers copy of the record.
I’m jealous Scott😂. I waiting on mine to arrive. Impex does a great job with their One Step releases. I have not been disappointed with any of the ones I own. A great album is going to sound even better.
Scott, Congratulations on scoring an advanced copy! All of your hard work on this channel is paying off. I can't wait till March 8 when my copy arrives. I have several other Impex 1 Steps & they have always been the best copies of the LP by far. I've been hearing this pressing smokes the AP 2x45 version which is a bit hard to believe. I have the AP, but based on the Other Impex 1 Steps I have, I didn't hesitate to order it. JIm
Hi Jim! Yes, I have been getting some of the AP Verve 45s as I can and have been wowed by them, particularly the Billie Holiday records. When the Acoustic Sounds Getz Gilberto came out, I had put the AP45 on the back burner, but now I wish I had it. Based on those I have it's had to believe it could be topped, but early reports seem to indicate it has been. I'll work with what I have and report on what I heard.
Yes, I did enjoy the preview. Getz-Gilberto is one of my favorite jazz albums. I've already heard that this Impex release is the definitive version released to date, but we'll see what you have to say.
Im curious myself! Certainly looks the part! Talk about a luxurious presentation! I'm trying to source I key pressing that I'd love to include, so Sunday premiere may be optimistic, but I'll do my best.
Another favorite of mine, in the original pressing and the Cisco 45. If this turns out like I think it will, I will be ordering the Famous Blue Raincoat One Step.
You're welcome but the review is coming soon! This was just a preview. I'll get into depth with this as soon as I've had some time with it and the other pressings. I would love to hear from you when you've compared the AP 45 to this new one!
Hi Scott, I only have a 1964 UK Mono release but that sounds pretty good so I can only imagine how fab this will be. Nice mini review ..oh and nice shirt too.
I'd love to hear the mono. I haven't listened to this yet, but it's well known that there are some issues in the stereo master tape. Yet they've never really bothered me in the past. I think the mono tape had much less use and if you have an early mono you probable have a great sounding copy.
@@ThePressingMatters Scott I watched one review of this new release yesterday and he was literally shocked at how good it sounds so I’m thinking you’re in for a treat. You just know I’m going to be giving my copy a spin now.
Thank you! I was reading through the booklet, and got immersed in the history, personal rememberances, photos, and essay. It's very well done in fact I can't remember seeing such care lavished on a booklet like this. I can't wait to start listening!
I have the MoFi Anadisc, and I have the AP 45 and had the recent Verve Classic 33 reissue done by AP. The Verve was good, the AP (done by George Marino, with the corrected channels) is superb. The MoFi is a bit big and soft in the bass, and perhaps, as a result, a bit fatter sounding, but is still very good. I actually prefer this presentation over the Verve overall, but neither beats the AP 45. I'm curious as to how the Impex is, although I'm happy enough with the AP.
I listened to the MFSL today (Anadisc) and it was better than I remember. Just as you describe. I'll play the Acoustic Sounds tomorrow and hope to hear the 45 if my friend can get it to me in time. This may take a few more days but it will be worth it,
Quit complaining - it topped out at 19 degrees today in my neck of the woods! This is one of my favorite Jazz albums. Anxious to see (hear) if it can beat out the Analogue Productions 2 x 45 RPM version (which blows away the Verve OG stereo). I ordered one from IMPEX as soon as it was available.
Well that is encouraging. Honestly, Impex does great work, I don't think they'd spend years on this project if they weren't going to top the contenders. We shall see!
@@ThePressingMatters looking forward to it. I have the AP 33 1/3. Stan Getz is what got me into jazz about 20 years ago. I love jazz samba and the encore as well. O morro não tem vez was a tune I really played a lot back then.
@@ThePressingMatters haha you are so right! However I don’t own one copy of this BUT I have streamed it and since this is the seminal copy of this record I leaped! I can’t wait to have a virgin experience tell the world about it! Plus, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about this!
Hi Mike, I respect your opinion but I could not disagree any stronger. I know you won't be getting this but if you read the essays and recollections gathered in the extensive book included, you might appreciate the importance of this record, the talent that went into it, the cultural phenomenon it truly was. Not to mention one of the most beautiful examples of this type of jazz. You can't realize the love, respect and care that went into this unless you held it in your hands and read through the documentation. It's anything but a money grab. It's a gift to all music lovers.
@@ThePressingMatters I meant the actual pressing. The record. That’s all I care about. Is it that good? Is it that much better sound wise vs the AP 45?
@mikechivy Oh I misunderstood your comment. This video was just the unboxing preview. I'll be able to answer more in the full review. @mikechivy Well that's completely understandable. When you spend 60 on what has been the definitive reissue, it's a hard pill to swallow that there might now be a better sounding version and is double! I will try and get the AP 45 for the review.
